Cazorla had been the best player of the first half all right. Diaby and Gerv. look decent as well, I think we need to just up the pace a little bit.

Unfortunately, looks like Lee Cattermole is man marking him now. Let's hope he doesn't break him.

Not to be too football manager, but regardless of the result there's a lot of positives to take from the game. Cazorla is exactly as special as had been advertised, it seems. And a clean sheet.

Kind of prepared for a whole ton of boring "they'd have scored 20 with van Persie" press reports, though.

Regardless of what happened today the press would find something where van Persie would have added to the performance.

For a team thats lost its "key" player (again) and has 3 new faces we did pretty well, goals would have been great (after the early moments, Sunderland never looked a thread) but Carzola, Gervinho and Diaby all looked excellent today whilst Podolski and Giroud were getting into all the right places.

I think O'Neil got the result he came to Arsenal looking for.

well that's that.

Personally, I saw mainly positives. No RVP, no Song and you can never guarantee what Walcott will bring and those guys often made the breakthrough in these kind of dour matches where the opposition come with no ambition.

Despite the changes, Cazorla is awesome and made a chance that Giroud should have scored. Gervinho looked great and Diaby had his moments. I think once these new guys settle in, we'll be able to win these kind of horrid matches.

Always gonna be hard, that: first game of the season, players not at their sharpest, and a half decent team coming to park the bus.

Quite a few positives though. Gervinho was excellent and Jenks and Cazorla both had good games. No real stinkers and we were never really threatened.
