It is great that we have spent some money on two strikers both in their mid 20's, but I do believe it signals the end of RVP's time with the club. You never know we might make him see out his contract but I do believe he will leave. At least we have bought replacements and ones that should step right in.

That Giroud video has a lot of chances that wouldn't have appeared in the premiership, but they are neatly taken at least. I'm very much influenced by Chamakh in my amount of positivity, but you can't argue with what he's done so far. Fingers definitely crossed.

Agreed on all counts. I'm hopeful, but at the moment also considerably more curious than excited.

As far as van Persie... Well, I still can't really see who he'll go to yet, that's the only thing. Man City are obviously a distinct possibility (though I can't see him so happily going to another English team as Nasri did), as are the rest of the usual suspects, but it doesn't feel as inevitable as when Overmars, Vieira, Henry, Fabregas or Nasri left. Add in that Podolski seems more interchangeable with Gervinho (left-sided forward, rather than striker) than RvP and Giroud and you just never know...

Incidentally, there's a lot of chatter about Aaron Ramsey going to Fulham (as a replacement for Murphy). What do people make of that? I'm really not sure what to think. It sounds plausible (in many respects), but I don't know how likely it feels. He'd be a great signing for them, and it might do him the world of good, but it feels hard to be entirely objective about him at the moment. He feels like one of us now, but he's never quite lived up to his potential at Arsenal (for obvious reasons), and his form wasn't great toward the end of last season, though that seemed likely down to fatigue.

The problem with Rambo is that he doesn't seem to fit any of our midfield roles as well as (at least) one of our other current players. If they're all fit, then I'd rather have Song, Arteta and/or Wilshere in the team, but at the same time he's a good player, and I'd love to see him fulfil his potential with us, whether M'Vila (or similar) comes in or not. At the same time, if we get an offer and he feels he needs a change of scenery, then I'd see that as fair enough and wish him well. I'm weird like that though; I was at the Emirates Cup the year before last and was surprised (and disappointed, actually) when Flamini got booed...

Anyway, bonus retro-themed gibberish time!

I was actually quite enjoying this...

...right up until I realised that the player he's talking about was probably Rocky. :(

It kind of feels like we are sending a message to RVP with these signings.

I know that's stating the obvious but it feels like the message is 'Of course we want you to stay and we will give you a big fat pay rise to stay, but if you want to go then you can go because as you can see we've already brought in reinforcements'.

These signings seem to have strengthened our hand so much that he'll be asking us if he can stay.

Anyone else feel this way or have I just convinced myself that he doesn't want to and won't be leaving?

Giroud seems like a good signing, I have more confidence he will do the job than Chamakh. I was unable to find one video of Chamakh on You Tube when he signed! At least Giroud was the top scorer at his club, who just won Ligue 1.

Still not sure about Van Persie leaving. I think he wants to go, but no-one can afford him other than Man City, and I am guessing they want to sell one of their 8 strikers before buying him. I would not be surprised if he left on a free next year, which would give Podolski and Giroud a year to settle in.

For all the stick aimed Wenger's way, the fact that's he signed the youngest european player to reach 100 international caps and the current french top scorer, for the combined price of two thirds of Andy Carroll, you have to give the man credit.

The thing about it is that a lot of those goals in that video were pretty opportunistic tap-ins. He was always in the right place at the right time to capitalise on defensive/goalkeeping howlers (the quality of keeping in France appears to be very low) and that's not been the way Arsenal have played for some time. It's something they could have done with for years but it almost feels like the kind of thing that's going to be coached out of him, because Bendtner is a player who has that similar knack of being in the right place at the right time and the team could never really adapt to him and play to his strengths. I'm really unsure about how effective he'll be if he's not playing as a centre-forward, I can't see him scoring those goals from Walcott's position.

Yes, but at least he has scored goals and won things! (unlike Chamakh and Park). You're right, we have had a problem getting Fox-in-the-box type players to fit into the Arsenal system over the years, but at least this guy seems like a good player who other clubs were genuinely interested in, rather than some of the more recent signings I can think of.

One of the big differences is this guy is a goalscorer. Chamakh never has been. He's scored some very good goals this season and his link up play looks decent too.

The one worry I have, solely based on that video, is that he doesn't look like the most mobile guy. Robin's movement is world class, so like others have said, it'll be interesting to see if him and Podolski has much of an effect on the way we attack.

As well as being top scorer in France he also chipped in with 9 assists. He's a big lad so hopefully he'll be ok with the hustle & bustle of the PL.

I don't think we are buying the finished article, so once he settles in and bangs in a couple of goals it'll hopefully be onwards and upwards.

Definitely a positive move from AW. Maybe he is building his 'final team' and this is his last attempt at winning the PL one more time or even the CL before calling it a day in a couple of years or so.

Hopefully there's more signings to come.

I just hope lessons are learned from what happened with Chamakh. Giroud will struggle if he's going to be benched every time Van Persie is fit. I think the formation needs to be more flexible if he's to do well, assuming Van Persie doesn't leave or get crocked again.

Changing topic slightly, will our Sir Szcesny's confidence have been rocked by his Euro 2012? Lost his place, red card, at fault for the Greek's goal, home tournament... That plus the 'stat' that he had one of the worst shots to goal ratios in the League last year. I think he's way better than the dross we've put up in recent years. I wonder if these difficulties at the Euros might help him make another step forward. He certainly looks better equipped to do that than Fabianski/Almunia etc.

Has anyone else been offered Gold Level membership today?

I have. Because my waiting list number has come up.

Nevermind the fact that I haven't even been a red member for the last 3 or 4 years.

Please note that the available seating is limited. The majority of available seating is situated behind the goal areas in the Upper Tier, priced at £1,423 (or £1,173 for the back ten rows of this area).

but we'll find a way to improve our bet by signing up the sprog for team JG membership and getting into the family enclosure.

Score!

Thus ignoring the three games where RVP was shit? Or perhaps you should just buy whoever plays well at the Euros, I think there was some Russian dude who looked good for two of the games...

I would have paid at least 2100 moon bucks for RVP to have a shit tournament and was delighted by the complete failure of the Dutch.

We never allow(ed) Arshavin to play as he does for Russia, to be fair to the wee meerkat. Whereas Podolski was doing the exact role we'll have signed him for...Anyway, neither were anywhere near as good as The Danish Striking Legend.

Like wide-left, often cutting in to feed the main striker?

Sounds familiar...

Well played Sir. I've been Red for about 6 years now and considered signing up to the Gold Waiting List, but living in Sheffield it'd be silly money to travel and keep up the use of it. I'm just patiently waiting for my time to become a Silver member now, but got a few years left for that to even be a possibility.

He starts in more or less the same position, but that's the only similarity. For Arsenal he's really meant to be running up and down the side of the pitch, with occasional cutting in. Russia funnel everything through him and allow him to move wherever the space is appearing. Their formation is generally set up so it doesn't matter if he never stands there at all without any impact. If I was setting Arsenal up for Arshavin, it'd be like this:

------------GK--------------

-DR------DC----DC----Vermaelen

-------------Song-------------

-----Wilshere--Arteta---Santos

---------------------Arshavin---

-Walcott------------------------

-------------Bendtner (or RVP, if you must)--

I don't think it'd work brilliantly as a whole, but it'd definitely allow Arshavin to play as he can.

Still wouldn't work without Bendtner in it.

(Let's pretend I included Wilshere as a tribute. To be fair, he's not really needed:

------------GK--------------

-DR------DC----DC----Vermaelen

---------Song-Arteta------------

--------------------------Santos---

------------------Arshavin-------

-Walcott------------------------

-------------Bendtner (or RVP, if you must)--

There you go.)

Good to see Bendtner's agent is just as unassumin as the player himself:

"The interest is overwhelming, just as it should be after the way Nicklas performed at Euro 2012."

I suspect Bendtner is actually his own agent.
