I can do other teams, too. See, Man City:

1) Buy RVP for £25m

2) Buy Bendtner for £45m

3) Buy Cana for £25m

4) Win League

5) Carefully consider the implications of Financial Fair Play rules.

Yet again, we find ourselves in the same situation. For some reason we let the contract of a cornerstone of our team run down till there's hardly any time left, leaving us with little bargaining power.

See this kind of shit drives me up the fucking wall.

If van Persie had been offered the contract he will inevitably be offered now last year people would have gone fucking ballistic if he'd got injured again this season - "How can Wenger justify that money on a player that's never played a full season!"

It wasn't too long ago when people were saying that we needed to replace van Persie as he should have been seen as a squad player rather than our "cornerstone" - you know this kind of sentiment

The raw numbers aren't the full story though - it's that Van Persie gets injured and then even when he is back and playing he rarely gets fully going before being injured again. And that he tends to time them at the most awkward moments too.

None of it is his fault, obviously, but however good he is at his best he can't be considered more than a squad player. So yeah, we need someone else - but only someone really, really, really good. Anyone less than that wouldn't be much of an improvement on the other guys we've got.

If Diaby had an injury free season next season, grabbing bags of goals and assists from the midfield, how many people would chastise the club/Wenger if he left at the end of the year on the cheap because his contract only went for another year? Fucking tons.

I don't think anyone worth listening to would have a pop if Diaby suddenly came good and then left though. You'd have to be positively clairvoyant to be able to see a situation where anything like that would happen. Van Persie was always likely to come good and it was literally only a series of injuries that kept him from achieving what he did this season more regularly. Diaby was held back because even when he put a few games together his limitations as a footballer stopped him from ever being put in the same bracket as Van Persie. I'll happily bet (a bet that becomes a bit safer every year I suppose) that Diaby will never make it. He's just not good enough.

I totally understand what you say about people moaning about contracts, although some fans will use anything as a stick to beat the club with. It's just a weird situation we have now. We've got pretty much a second XI of players who are on enormous, lengthy contracts that we don't want and apparently no-one else does either. Wenger is in the unenviable situation of having to get rid of all that lot, promise to the players we want to keep that we're buying a load of top transfers in whilst balancing all of that with the fact he doesn't like lots of chopping and changing and we've just bought about 7 players. This summer looks about as difficult as the last one on a cursory glance.

I am not alone in thinking Diaby's one of the most naturally talented players we've had in years - he's had some amazing games for the Arsenal. It's not the ability that makes me doubt Diaby will do it, it's the fact he gets injured again so quickly after he plays that makes me think perhaps the body's not going to let it happen.

I am not too stressed about the summer. Apart from RVP, it's more a case of who can we get rather than who will we lose.

I don't foresee too many problems trimming the squad - there will be buyers for Bendtner, Vela, Chamakh and Park should we choose to sell. Squillaci and Almunia can be written off without too much sadness. Denilson is perhaps more of a sting but we'll live.

Well we wouldn't have offered him 130k a week would we? The fact is he's banged in 37 goals this season in a distinctly average Arsenal side. Only two of his goals in the league came from penalties, it's incredible.

As opposed to this hypothetical injury that everyone seems to think is around the corner for Robin, his performances mean he can negotiate a far better deal than he could have 12-24 months ago.

Wenger ended up looking pretty silly last summer when he came out and said that Nasri wasn't leaving and that if we sold him and Cesc, we'd be a selling club. I don't think he'll be so hasty to make similar comments this time around regarding Robin.

He's sometimes good on the ball but he can't pick a pass, holds the ball too long, lacks concentration and has a wildly inconsistent end product and that's being kind. He's a wild card who might do something but more than likely he'll end up costing you and get substituted or have to come off injured. I don't even know what position I'd play him in. What is he?

What? He lingers on the ball a bit yes (but less than he did when he first broke into the side) mainly because he's fucking tremendous on the ball, but in terms of end product he's passing is great as is his shooting.

Attacking midfielder. No doubt.

I know I'm gay for the guy, but still I find it surprising that people don't see the talent - he's single handedly changed games for the Arsenal and for France.

I'm very much in agreement with Carlito - Diaby's a tremendous talent. Just very unlucky the way the English game's officiated allows for cunts like Dan Smith to shatter his ankle a few days after his 20th birthday. He never been the same. Nor has Ramsey, nor Eduardo for that matter.

So Chelsea have raised the bar now. We're never going to hear the end of it from them, we must strengthen this summer!

On the plus side if the FFP actually works it will fuck Chelsea up, they have a very old squad that will need replacing very soon and with the FFP they shouldn't be able to just throw Russian money at people.

I suppose the consolation is tha Sp*rs get to play in the spastic cup but I'm gutted really. Didn't want these cunts to win it.

Come on Arsenal!

We've gotta get back in the game and win the PL or CL.

Pretty unlikely though. We'd have to spend the best part of 150m just to get close to the strength of a team like Man City - that's before Man City start spending this summer! Even if we got our first 11 up to standard, we'd still have to spend big to strengthen the squad as we have no depth at all.

Look at the stats, we were 19 points away from the top. Winning the league again any time soon would require Man City and Man United to both have impossibly poor seasons. Could we fluke a Champions League win? Probably not. We had two good chances when we had the strongest squads in our history and even then we got knocked out by Chelsea and beaten in the final.

I'm trying to be positive, but we don't even know what Kroenke's plans are for the club!

I think Kroenke is just happy to bide his time until we payback our debt and get mega profitable and just enjoy the money. Whatever he invests now will just delay that process. I'm just a bit worried we'll continue the trend of selling someone to make ends meet. Who knows really, fancy telling the fans about things like that.
