Arsenal

The Goodyear blimp was headed in Emirates direction this morning, I assumed there would be some news coming out but it's been annoyingly quiet.

One of the headlines on arsenal.com does say that Podolski is going to hit the ground running. I would assume that will result in a stress-fracture that sees him out for 3-4 months, but next season he'll be like a new signing again.

Not getting all doom and gloom just yet, but it is somewhat disappointing that Van Persie's contract looks all set to become yet another completely avoidable but ultimately incredibly drawn out saga over the summer. When Wenger said he'd like it all sorted before the Euros that seemed pretty sensible to me - if he does intend to sign then we're probably not going to get that all sorted for at least another 6 weeks. If however he doesn't fancy it anymore then it's in his interests to drag this on all summer long.

I dunno, I was hoping for a bit better from Robin to be honest. He should have stated his intentions one way or another by now as the alternative - i.e. what he's currently doing - serves no other purpose than to get more money for himself or manufacture a move. The argument that he's 'waiting to see who we bring in' seems a bit wishy washy to me. For one, buying a load of players is no guarantee of finally winning some trophies, and for two it's difficult to state with any conviction that we'll end up with any of the people we've earmarked anyway. I mean, last season we identified Phil Jones, Mata and Jagielka and ended up with absolutely none of them. In that case is it just an assurance that we'll bring someone in, whoever that may be. I find it difficult to believe that's the way this type of affair is conducted.

I do this every year. You get 9 months to forget what the last one was like then it just sneaks up on you again and roundhouse kicks you in the kidneys, just because it feels like it.

Maybe it will be nice if Van Persie leaves? That way we won't need to worry if anyone wants any of our good players next year as we won't have any. I bet that kind of relief is usually only reserved for when you've just taken a big wee after needing one for ages and ages.

Koscielny would just be a pity. He's a great player but you feel like he could get replaced, but Wilshere would really sting. A homegrown lad who's been earmarked as a captain and all sorts. Yeah, don't fancy that one bit.

I reckon Coquelin will be another Flamini or Diarra. Too good to sit on the bench and will go somewhere like Juve and be brilliant. Not this summer, but probably the next one.

My money is on Wilshere or Koscielny being future sagas.

I'll take your cash on Jack; unless West Ham get taken over by some Petro-Dollar scum bag, he's going nowhere. Ever. That boy is Pat Rice in the making, with the heart of TA and the left peg of Brady.

Yet again, we find ourselves in the same situation. For some reason we let the contract of a cornerstone of our team run down till there's hardly any time left, leaving us with little bargaining power.

Then we're left with a blind hope that they'll sacrifice both a better financial opportunity and greater chance of success elsewhere. Robin's had to carry this team the same way Cesc did. That has to put a huge amount of strain on somebody. Do you think after a season like this, Robin's thinking to himself, 'you know what, I quite fancy going through this all again'.

I'd be amazed if he stayed. I think City will come in for him. I really do. Mancini doesn't seem to be the type to mess around. He wants the best players and doesn't care how much they cost.

Looking at the reports so far this week, I expected more from Persie. Considering the faith the club has shown him over the years with injuries. Wasn't this like his first full season without any major injuries?

I dunno. I'm trying not to be too negative. On the one hand I didn't expect him to turn up at Wenger's house, have a cup of tea, accept a £10k pay rise then sod off to the Euros. These things will take time and the ball is very much in his court. It will take a while and maybe Wenger will manage to persuade him to stay this time. Podolski is in, 3rd is wrapped up. Maybe another signing or two and a big offer will persuade him.

But at the back of my mind is all the other summers and all the other players that have left.

If he does go can we give the captaincy to someone really shit this time? It's the kiss of death. Vieria, Henry and Cesc left as captains. Grim.

He was never gonna sign after a little 5 minute chat. Surely RVP is waiting to see what options he has.

If Real Madrid come in for him then maybe he'll choose to go. If an offer comes in which isn't as good as the one we are offering then he'll stay. It's got to be more than just the money on the table. He's settled in London, he's married with a kid, he's the captain and we are probably gonna make an offer which will make him the highest paid player in our history.

I would like to think that we'll set some sort of deadline, and stick to it though, and not wait until the day before the window closes before making a decision. 10 days or so after the Euro's finish seems fair.

I'm not that fussed if RVP goes, really. Losing Fabregas was losing the centre of the team for potentially over a decade - RVP probably won't even be able to walk in a decade, bless him. We'd have missed his goals this season, but I just can't say with confidence he'd ever have a season like this again. We need to find a couple of strikers at least though if he does go.

I understand perfectly where Rev is coming from. Yes we've come to rely on him this season, and when he's actually been fit in prior seasons he's been amazing, but his injury record isn't the best and I wince every time he goes to ground expecting him not to get up again.

I'm not disputing that, as I've said, he's carried us and I'd rather risk a player of his ability only being fit for half a season but still banging the goals in than not have him around. I just think that if this does turn into some overblown saga then he should take a look at his career prior to this season and consider what Arsenal have done for his career. Especially as it always seems to be on International duty that he was picking up his major injuries.

35+ goalscorers don't grow on trees. Where will the goals come from if Robin leaves? They certainly won't be coming from midfield. That leaves our wingers, who've blown hot and cold all season.

Obviously that's something that needs fixing. If he goes, I'd be tempted to get rid of Chamakh and Park and rely wholly on Bendtner buy 4 new strikers. One who's good in the air, a fast one, a precise one and an experienced one (Podolski might cover that, I guess). A mix, anyway.

If he does stay, I'll be a much bigger fan of him. If he decides he wants a pay-day, I'll be disappointed but hope that we can move on from it.
