Standard unsettling behaviour. This is how it starts.

It's hardly Barca-esque though is it? "Yeah he's a good player, but I think he'll stay at Arsenal". I mean yeah Mancini could have said "I don't want to talk about him because he's under contract with another club", but I'm not sure it warrants any rage. It's certainly not very dissimilar from Wenger's comments about Eden Hazard a few weeks ago.

Every signing is a risk.

Obviously, but I think he is riskier. All you can do is base a signing on what they've done before and there is a massive hole in his career that you've got to ask questions about.

A lot of his problems at Bayern were to do with attitude problems and clashes with management though. I'd like to think he's learnt from that experience. Also Arsenal is a pretty different club to FC Hollywood, to say the least.

Bergkamp and Henry were beyond terrible at stages of their career before we got them. That seemed to work out OK.

They weren't particularly big risks, we didn't alter the wage structure of the club to bring in either of them. We've just committed at least £31m (if the wage is £100k) or £39m (if the wage is £140k, as mentioned above).

That's a lot of money.

I'd say he's much less of a risk than Eden Hazard, and I'm pretty sure everyone would be spaffing themselves if we'd signed him.

Gents, we have (apparently) signed a German international before the season has finished or the transfer window has even opened. If we are worrying about the financial terms of the deal then just remember we spend the rest of our time telling Wenger and the board to spend some money. You can't have it both ways. And I wouldn't worry too much. I see no reason why the board or the manager would suddenly have abandoned all their careful financial ways. If those figures are true it's likely a large part of it is a signing on fee bonus spread over his contract.

Personally I am pleased, always liked Podolski.

Now someone give RvP what he wants.

There's been talk about signing him before, which would indicate Wenger sees enough in him to bring him in. Objectively, I'd agree it's a risk but I'm pretty confident. I've always liked him - he's got great workrate and commitment and his technique, especially playing wide, can't be faulted.

Hopefully it signals intent to really push on next season, perhaps the intent that Fabregas didn't see and could have persuaded him to stay.

He seems like a replacement for Arshavin to me, and with Arshavin off the wage bill that'd free up a fair bit of money for Podolski. Don't know that it's going to strengthen the squad on paper (with Arshavin) gone, but if he puts some effort in then it certainly will in practice, it'll be nice to have a player that can make a difference and tries to do so.

I'm also in the positive camp - we've signed an established German international forward who has a better than 1/3 goalscoring record at club level (in the competitive Bundesliga, despite often playing on the wing, and despite having a rocky spell where he wasn't always starting for Bayern due to playing in a team with Klose and Toni), Champions League experience, and scored nearly a goal every other game in an international career that has spanned nearly 100 games despite his still being only 26 years old. He's quick, versatile, technically proficent, and has an eye for goal. He sounds pretty much perfect, basically, and while you can't ever know for sure, I haven't been this pleased with a signing in quite a while.

Also, while I understand why people are interested in the financial aspects, I think all of that has, as always, to be taken with a pinch of salt. Even if it is (at least relatively) accurate, then maybe it's an indication that the purse strings have finally been loosened, which is what many of us have been hoping for for some time, and may well be a good sign ahead of what looks like being a pivotal summer transfer window.

16 goals and 6 assists in 22 games this season.

That's all well and good, but how will he fare on a wet Wednesday at the Britann-

...oh, wait: he's Lukas Podolski. He'll be fucking amazing. I'd sell my left testicle to keep RvP alongside him, with the Ox and Jack piling it on behind them. No, really.

Confirmation. Really excited about this transfer. This is what should have happened last summer. Versatile and can score goals. Supposed to be lightning quick too. Fantastic piece of business.

Big-spending Russian clubs Lokomotiv Moscow and Anzhi Makhachkala were also understood to be pursuing Podolski but he recently stated that money was not his prime concern.

"Money is not the most important thing for me," he told German newspaper Sport-Bild. "What is crucial is the development of my game."

This is great news if true (I don't believe until I see it on the arsenal website) I hope and believe he will play with RVP (fingers crossed) either way though I'm glad we have gone out already to buy players and if RVP does leave at least we know we won't jus save the money and play chamakh or park.

Got to love Szczesny - quoted in the metro today saying that of the other north london club (he wouldn't name them) "...I would be really pleased to see them in the Europa league next season"

Legend!

Hope this transfer really is done, or at least as good as, what with all the media reports around today. Would be a great signing, and at 10.9 mill not really that expensive. If the wages quoted are to be believed then that's a big signing but like Daley said isn't this what we've all been crying out for since God knows how long ago?

I'm definitely in the excited and can we have more camp,

91 caps for Germany, which is impressive in itself, and 43 international goals scored is not to be sniffed at.

Also, at 26 years of age and with having played in two Euro's & two World cups he's a good age and got some serious experience under his belt.

It'll be nice to know he won't have to spend all his time around the potential fire and accident risk that is Fabianski.

I like the idea that Fabianski is so clumsy that he often literally catches fire.

Arsenal goalkeepers are perfect for a footy sitcom. I used to imagine a sitcom starring Jens Lehman called 'In Lehmans Terms' where Jens lived next door to Oliver Kahn and had Gael Clichy as a lodger.

I know these things are normally a load of bollocks but thought I'd share it anyway.

A workmates brother-in-law who's a banker had a meeting yesterday with someone "high up" at Arsenal and they got talking, as you do, and the story is that AW will move upstairs in the summer and Guardiola will come in as manager and be given £100 million to spend on the team.

A bit fantasy football but there it is.
