Ox tracked back loads more than Ramsey has.

In his short spell at the Club I think he's look miles better than Ramsey and Walcott. I mean that as a compliment to him more than slagging off the other two. Chamberlain, at 18, is amazing. He plays like a 28 year old, his footballing brain is the exact opposite of Walcott's.

Never heard of him but Meelans left back was truly dire.

I rather liked this from the Guardian's live text thingy: "...the visitors' left-back Djamel Mesbah looks like some supporter who's won a competition where first prize was the opportunity to play for AC Milan in a Champions League match."

Looks like the Podolski signing is all sorted which is grand for many reasons, but interesting to hear that his contract is apparently worth at LEAST 100k a week. Suggests that we're at least re-thinking our wage structure and hopefully going big with RvP's contract. Next up, Goetze must be a priority and we'd really be starting to put together a squad of quality.

I'm not massively delighted about Podolski. He's got some very significant failures in his history and it's only recently he's started getting over them.

If he was coming in on a free, great. But for £10m I don't think I'd risk him to be honest.

Are none of you concerned that he may have been lined up as RVP's replacement? £100,000 a week is a lot of money for somebody that would most likely be sat on the bench watching Van Persie bang them in. And then there's the question of why he'd agree to join if he hasn't been told he'll be playing. I suppose he could fill-in on the wing but, again, why would he want to? Or Wenger may switch to 4-4-2...

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers but I'm not the only one that's thinking this, right?

Great signing, don't think he will replace Van Persie though. Hopefully he is being signed to convince Van Persie to stay. It sounds like he can play anywhere across the fron 3, so perfect signing really.

Off the top of my head, hasn't he mainly played out wide for Germany? I think he's quite versatile and not necessarily precious about playing upfront...Naturally I could have imagined that.

I'm really enjoying the fact the press seem to have forgotten that we're a "club in crisis" and that after only a couple of weeks "Arsenal appear to be moving forwards".

It's nice to read some positivity in the press for a change, even though we're only at the very start of improving things. There's still alot of work that needs to be done, if the Podolski stuff is true (and he actually applies himself, unlike a certain other big name signing) and we retain RvP, thats a huge start but it's going to be tough to move on certain players, particularly Almunia, Denilson, Bendtner and the rest of the usual suspects.

It's also good to see that midfield appears to be sorted now, once Wilshere is back and if Diaby is ever properly fit again, we have enough quality and depth there to get us through and start addressing other area's properly.

I've always thought Podolski is a bit overrated to be honest, but he would still be a useful signing. I think Arsene has realised it's no good having someone like Chamakh who can only really play at centre forward, because then when RVP is on form he's kicking his heels on the bench for weeks on end. With Podolski he can also play wide left as well as being able to fill in up top, so the chances of him getting benched are slimmer.

As for him being RVP's replacement, I don't think so, at least at this point. I'm not sure Van Persie will stay because frankly there are better clubs than us out there that would want him, but I don't think he's made his mind up yet. At the end of the day Chamakh, Park and Bendtner are almost certainly leaving in the summer, so we need some forwards even if RVP stays.

Yeah, he's not quite an out and out striker. He'd be fine with RVP in the team as well.

Fucking hell they better be preparing some mega-bucks shit for RvP if this is true.

interesting figures from Cologne tabloid Express today. Podolski fee (only) GBP 10.3m but wages 140k a week.
those wages are likely to include a sizeable sign-on fee, by the way
I think the different numbers can be reconciled once add-ons and sign-on fees are added

And finally.

deal is done

Nice bit of tapping up by the BFG if it was true he was texting him.

I don't think Podolski would be a very good signing when you weigh up the costs. He was hardly prolific when he was at a big club (Bayern Munich) and unless we are changing our playing style, it just seems a strange one. Unless he's RvP's replacement?

As much as he was shit at Bayern, it was at least partially One Of Those Things. A bit Hodgson to Liverpool - perhaps not quite good enough, but certainly not as far as away as it seemed.

I think he's a risk though.

When we are doing well, it doesn't sell newspapers.
