My boy Nico with Henry. Holding a photo from ten years ago when he was a junior gunner and he met Henry..

I keep 'collecting' pictures of Nico from various sources, mostly Stuart MacFarlane who is the club photographer to send to you. I then realise that you've likely seen all of them and then some.

Also, the Yellow away from 2008-09 is fucking mega. Properly boss. 20th anniversary of the 89 away and deserving of the sentiment.

Also, for the Blue away kit haters, you all realise that we had a blue away kit years before a yellow? I love and prefer the yellow away kits, but the blue away strips get an unfair hammering.

Nah i'd be keen to see them if you still have them. Email them over or something.

I met him on that trip and sure I saw him a few more times after that but the thing that pleases me most about it is that he's a proper gooner in the Arsenal first team squad. Not even close to established or anything but he's played for the first team, with Henry, and it just makes me smile to think that of all those kids who support Arsenal and dream of playing for them one day, there is actually one there. Real living the dream shit man.

It is awesome. And he was a life-saver when he replaced Djourou the other week as well.

On a similar tip, although I think we've discussed it before, Jenkinson is a similar situation; he's been a Red Member for years along with most of his family and last year went to the Emirates Cup matches. This year he was playing in them. The BFG is similar as well-been a Gooner since he was ten or so after seeing a game on a holiday to England. RvP too, used to follow The Arsenal as his 'English' team as a kid and I'd take 1 Nico or Jenkinson over 11 XI Nasris.

I can't even begin to imagine how incredible it must be to be a professional footballer, but to be one for your boyhood club must feel like that brilliant cliche, waking up everyday feeling like you've won the lottery. Lucky bastards.

Anyways:

I watched him play about three times mate. Three Saints season ticket holder pals.

I don't really know what to say to this. I don't know what games you saw, but I know for a fact he was played a lot as a striker. I know he filled in on the wing a bit, but he was definitely seen (and predominantly played) as a striker.

Have a look at these:

Southampton played 4-4-2 and had Dyer/Belmadi for the right wing, Kosowski/McCann for the left. Walcott was usually partnered with Fuller or Jones, and occasionally played with Ormerod. He was put out on the wing sometimes, but he was mainly a striker.

Sorry to derail the thread, Gooners. I just think Walcott could be a good striker, as unhelpful and pointless as that opinion may be.

Totally in agreement that he could be an excellent striker.

Anyway, brilliant set of results today, and the Spurs game is interesting. If they win that puts us properly in fourth (thanks for that, Blackburn) and if they lose we'd go within just four points of them by beating them in a couple of weeks. Draw today would be a great result.

EDIT: Well, never mind about the draw then.

St Totteringham's Day looks increasingly unlikely this year, but hey, we gained points on Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle.

Incidentally for all the pelters Wenger has had in the press for going from fourth to maybe-fourth-maybe-not, isn't it far, far more worthy of scorn that Chelsea have gone from double winners to this shower of shite in just two years, despite still spending loads of money?
