I'm quite disappointed at the lack of activity/ambition shown in the transfer window. It seems the club are perfectly happy to cruise along in an aimless direction. I wasn't expecting us to shell out stupid money, but I had hoped we might have added another player or two, rather than a 19 year old who isn't really going to feature until at least next year.

Apparently the lack of activity by all clubs is down to the TV deal. Once this is sorted out in Summer, clubs are going to know how much they have to play with for the next few years. It's quite sad that clubs are so reliant on TV money rather than income that they generate themselves. Having said that, Gazidis said yesterday that £50m is sitting their waiting to be used, whether that's true or not we'll never know but I'm tired of Gazidis telling the media how much money is available to the manager. If the money really does exist, why isn't it being used? 4th place is almost out the question, but a couple of decent signings may have made it more achievable.

The window in Russia doesn't shut for a while yet so Arshavin could still be off.

All unconfirmed of course, but some worrying stuff on the net today about Wilshere's injury. Another stress fracture to the same ankle, out for the season etc. Just waiting for the club to confirm it now. Pretty shit stuff.

Is it 2008 again? If that happens I will eat my own balls. How does our fat, lazy little owl fit into Pep's hard pressing game? Not very well I'd say.

On the transfer window: I guess the club is thinking that with Chelsea also being pretty rubbish, when we start to get some players back over the next few weeks, there's a good chance we will be able to pip them to fourth place. In terms of the defence I agree; obviously having some proper full backs available will make a huge difference. We're still light in midfield and attack though IMO. We need to rest Song and Ramsey but I'm not sure we can really afford to, and the same clearly goes for RVP. We're running those players into the ground and risking them getting injured. We did the same thing to Wilshere last season and look what's happened to him.

I think I read somewhere that the $50 million includes player wages, but it's still enough for a couple of decent signings especially if some other players wages can be offloaded. I'd be interested in knowing how much Champions League qualification brings in, surely it's worth spending a little on another striker to push for 4th as neither Liverpool or Chelsea are setting the world on fire right now.

It's between £20m and £30m depending on how far you get and a few other bits like attendances and whether you qualify as champions or fourth. (You get a bigger share of the tv money qualifying as champions, less for 2nd and so on.)

So I know it's slim pickings right now, but surely it's worth spending some of the $50 million on another striker now to possibly get the Champions League money right? I know other players are coming back, but if Van Persie gets injured we are not coming 4th.
