bloody well does.  At least 4 people posted rants about it, even after all the other links to that 'we have no intention' story.

maybe if people started learning to read. And maybe if I were less bored.

I think it's a case of hating sony so much the fury blinds ther eyesight.

Clearly needs it's own topic as seemingly noone bothers actually reading the entirety of that other thread before adding their own outraged "how could they!?!" comment.

YOUR PSP IS SAFE

it has its own topic already though doesnt it. on this page. Ok its at the end of the one thread but the other thread started today also has this info :P

The fact is it always sounded completely unfeasible and stupid (whoever made the original comment). What were Sony going to do, go round everybody's house that had bought an import and demand the PSP back?

Stoopid.

To be perfectly honest, as incompetent as the guardian is, it's more likely Sony made the threat full in the knowledge it wouldn't be able to act on it, but purely to scare people who were thinking of importing. Just like the lawyers letters to The Pirate Bay.

Some day someone will invent a technology that allows us to slap people across the Internet, and the world will become a better place.

SONY NEVER MADE ANY SUCH THREAT. THE GUARDIAN JUST MADE IT UP BASED ON SOME THINGS THEY DIDN'T UNDERSTAND.

Does that help clarify things a little?

Absolutely. Except it'll be the arseholes, rather than the ill-informed, that are first in line.  :)

Being ill-informed is fine. Not seeking to make yourself well-informed before commenting on something in a discussion about how ill-informed people are about it is just silly.

For goodness sake calm down.

Yeah because companies have never made threats they have never been able to backup in order to scare people who don't know any better and then retracted the threats have they?

Maybe they did probably they didn't, like I said the guardian cocks up a lot, but it aint as impossible as you seem to think it is.

But hey, if being patronising and writing in LARGE FONTS gets you off then be my guest.

You're still missing the point. Sony made no threats. Nobody ever made the threats. There were no threats. Total threat count = 0. The threats were not retracted, because they were not there to retract. The only threats were in the fevered minds of Guardian journalists.

And now people who didn't read the original article and haven't read the follow-ups seem to be doing their best to propagate the claim that there were.

But... but.. if there's a mass attempt for people to offload their imported PSPs we could only win in that situation.

Hmm. I see where you're coming from, there.

DAMN YOU SONY! Sell your PSPs - it's all over...

(The terrible thing is that with Sony genuinely being evil with regards to homebrew, I might even need to pick up another import PSP anyway...)

they still want to know who bought one, for some reason

Concerns were raised by a clause in Sony's legal action against importers. The clause demands that the names and addresses of all customers who have bought a PSP from the retailers be handed over to Sony. This was cleared up by Sharples who said that this is just standard procedure allowing the supply chain to be established.

Unfortunately you do need to have a decent standard of English to get the best out of it. Can I recommend the Beano?

I would not hold up the Guardian as an example of a 'decent standard of English'.

It is sometimes known affectionately as the Grauniad because it was noted for typographical errors in the past, including mis-spelling its own name once in the 1970s. Although such errors are now less frequent than they used to be the 'Corrections and clarifications' column can still often provide some amusement.
