Are PSP's allowed to be played on planes ? Granted i can understand if you start playing a 4 player Wi-Fi it may interfere ( altho i think this is utter cod shit ) I know some airlines dont like u to use any optical media while flying i guess this comes under the same umbrella right ?

I used a PSP and a DS on a flight earlier this year. The worst they'll do is tell you to stop using it (it's all dependent on the airline) so just start playing it and see if they tell you not to.

i think they're more worried about such items coming out of your hand and hitting someone in the face, rather than this "interferance" rubbish. then again, i'm a nice guy and if they tell me to turn it off i will <_<

Seeing as a PSP is a handheld, then no you are not supposed to be playing it in a plane on take-off and landing (like the Gameboy). No exception. If this rule is still in place in 20 years, then whatever handheld is out there, be it some holographic one or whatever, will be subject to the same rules.

Basically, it's to minimise the chance of radiation from your console interfering with the plane. God knows why, every plane built since 1983 has to withstand a raft of radiation-blasting TVs and laptops in the Business Class section, but they still restrict you. Just don't use wi-fi, eh?

I will be returning home from China next week and thankfully the airline have a power source attached to the seat for laptops even in standard class - so no chances of the PSP fading on me...I've left Crazy Shots Golf still unopened in its wrapper just waiting for this excuse.

Do you mean Hot Shots Golf? If so you'll be in for a sweet flight! I used my PSP on JAL flights to Osaka then Sydny last week, no problems but they obviously ask you to switch off anything electronic (which includes noise cancelling headphones) during take off and landing.

I have a 21 hour flight to Sydney on Tuesday and I'm not taking my PSP as I'm going travelling for two months (around Thailand too) and dont want to worry about it getting nicked (which raises a lot of questions about the point of the thing) so it's a beat up old GBA, FF tactics and a new copy of Advance Guardian heroes for me. Shame really it would have been helpful...

On an almost related note: Anyone else tried to play Yoshi's Touch and Go on a plane? I tried but all my platforms kept blowing away - think it must be the air pressure or something, made it unplayable!

Nah, I played Yoshi recently on a plane, had no problems. Maybe the overhead air nozzle thimgummy was blowing on your mic?

The whole issue with mobile phones and electronic devices is rubbish. Friend of mine works for Lucent (they who make most mobile phone components), they did an internal investigation into aircraft and potential interference. Concluded it was absolute nonsense. If you think about it, were there any risk whatsoever do you think they'd let you carry phones onboard?

It's believed to be all about revenue from onboard phones, particularly on European and American flights where you can get a (much cheaper) mobile signal almost all the time.

Yeah, I had that problem last month. You can turn down the mic sensitivity in the options, though, which sorted it for me.
