The Joy Of Late Injuries

Why oh why do I only seem to get a serious injury after making all three of my subs?! They all seem to come in the last 20 minutes.

Ah it's a fickle old game.

Post experiences plz.

Do you know whats even worse...getting Fernando Torres injured when you are up 5-0 and you know you should really take him off, but decide to give that wank Fernandes a go in the midfield!

Unless absolutely necessary I'll take a player off right away, including minor injuries. They seem to be out for longer if you leave them on the park.

I usually do...but I do the same mistake as you...

bringing on 3 subs at 65 mins, and then getting Torres injured in the 67th minute..even though im 5-0 up!

The worst thing is being 3-0 up and watching your team get stuffed in the 2nd half and all the subs and changing tactics doesn't save your day.

Or...

I won the league (Seria A, Roma). Lost out in the CL final. I play Inter in the Coppa Italia.

5-0 win at home, it's in the bag says I. Wrong! I lost 8-0, yes, 8-0 on the away leg!

Yeah there are far too many goals scored in the game as a whole.

My pet hate is the amount of early goals too - there is a goal in the first 5 minutes in about half of my games.

Also you get far too many instant reply goals i.e straight after the other team have scored.

Still it is as addictive as hell.

I currently have Ipswich winning the Champions League and Premiership double .

Yeah, did that with Leeds...

Its stupidly easy after a few plays...

Sell most of your players, and just buy south american talent...

Easy.

I'm currently into my sixth season with Roma. I've got one CL win, 2 Seria A trophies and a Coppa Italia win under my belt.

My team is nothing like the team I picked up at the beginning. My starting eleven looks something like this.

                       Podolski       Klose

Sneijder     Van Der Vaart       Riquelme       Hleb

Pander           Heitinga         Kompany        Brown

                          Lobont

I've also got a nice selection of subs including Jankulovski, Van der Meyde, Van Bommel, Totti, De Rossi, David Villa, Essien, Alex, Fernando and £40 million in the bank. Game's a bit too easy, though I don't think I'd enjoy playing as Dundee!

You got:

Podolski, Klose, Riquelme and Van Bommel all on a free.

You spent about 2 Mil on Lobont. Brown maybe on a free. Kompany for about 750k in your first season...

Too predictable.

So, so wrong.

I bought Podolski last season. He cost me £20m!

Klose i bought in 05/06 for £16m.

Riquelme and Van Bommel free, yes.

Lobont was about £4m.

Brown was another big-spend, £18m.

Kompany was free 2 seasons ago (07/08).

I've got a thing for Germans. And the Dutch.

I'm not so big on Brazilians.

I'm kicking myself for not snapping up Tevez as early as possible.

I've had striker troubles recently with Klose on a long-term injury.

Despite Podoksi, Defoe, Fernando, Haedo Valdez, Totti and Julio Baptista I wasn't happy with the goal output.

It's just timing. You need to get in there at the right time. You can bag ANYBODY just by offering a good contract, the trick is getting in there when their contract is due to expire obviously.

At the time I bought Brown, I needed a right-sided defender. And he's done me proud ever since!

Kompany is always a fantastic defender!

What about the most anyone has managed to sell a player for?

I bought Torres for £45M and then sold him a year later for £65M which is the highest I have ever seen. He is such a good player too.

My best recent experience: getting into the Premiership with Stoke, when I really, really shouldn't have. Being offered odds of 2000-1 to win the league, then getting my arse resoundingly battered and sent packing. Didn't get relegated til the last day of the season, mind.

Thing is, the whole experience made the board and fans love me more for trying and getting them there in the first place.

I love Footy Manager.

But I've just downloaded CM 93/94. First three results - 6-2, 4-0, 5-1. Loveit.

Makes me want to play it, upgrade methinks!

How much RAM does it need?

It asks for 128mb, but that's not good for anything more than one league and minimum detail. I have 512 megs and I'm running 5 leagues on medium detail and it goes okay - chugs a bit but it's more than bearable.

Just depends on how much you want to have going, really.

Ricardo Montolivo is an amazing talent

Get him trust me

Oh yes, I always try to snap him up on a free. I'm in the 17/18 season now (!) and there are few recognizable players still around. Montolivo is still there, is 32 years old or something, and is playing for Manchester Utd.

Another player usually available on a free that I tend to sign is Bojinov. Amazing strike rate, and comparable to Podolski.

I love this game soooo much, but it really chugs on my mac.

And I play the mans version, as my local team is Southport, just got promoted from the Conference North. Its a nightmare signing players way down in the lower leagues

Anyone on here play this game the LLM way?  (Anyone know what I'm talking about?)

It's the only way to play, innit.

Though this version is a lot harder than all previous ones, seeing as you can't just rely on one formation. Makes it harder for us lazy feckers.

I just downloaded last seasons player update for CM 01/02 so it's given that bad boy a new lease of life.

Couple of errors in the lower leagues (postitions and feet incorrect, etc) but not many.  I love thedugout.net.    :)

Just stay away from the forums there, or I'll have to ban your ass. As you do, of course.

When I play football manager games I always go for the young (22 and under) players. I've never actually bought a player over 23 years of age I think. This resulted in the average age of my team being 22. So I have a solid base for like 8 years. At 30 they get sold unless I deem them worthy of being kept on. RVN and Keane in my case. Beckham I sold to Sunderland one time. :(:P
