Is The Next-gen Gaming For Everyone?

Are you actually reading anyone elses points?

I've already said WHY they're doing that, and I don't think they think it's your right to say that you don't want a company to make profit just because you want them to care about the gameplay more.

If at E3 one maker came out and said: "Woo whizz bang look at us! HDTV, amazing surround sound, TOP QUALITY graphics, such an immersive experience."

and the other said

"The gameplay's better on ours."

Which do you think would get more attention? Which would sell more?

I see your point you are right, sorry if I dont read all the post or pay less attention to some.

Isn't any other ways to make people believe that something is good.

If i.e nintendo says the new Zelda is something very different from the past ones and is very revolutionary, the least they'd get is attention.

So far, Nintendo have said that and received no attention. So looks like you're wrong there. When Nintendo actually produce something and not go on just to try deflect attention from everyone else, then we'll see.

No shit.  :)

Look Anadim, you just carry on talking bollocks. The point I'm making for the third time now is that the companies are doing it to make money. Obviously there's a lot more that can be done with this generation, as happens with all, but the fact is that the companies want to make more money, and new consoles is the way to do this.

Yes you are right. I just think that we need more revolutianary things to our game consoles than dvd capabilities.

To be honest, I'm not sold on either the 360 or the PS3 yet: there are no games announced that will mean I want one on launch. Sure I'll probably end up with a PS3 (for Devil May Cry/the other Sony owned brands), but I dont *really* care about HDTV, or a media centre. Or any of that shit. I just wanna play fun games. Which is why I'll definatley be buying a Rev on launch, even though they havent announced a single game yet. Yes im a bit of a Ninty fanboy, but this gen I've bought all three machines. From which the xbox has got the least use/fond memories. PS2 is great, but the 2 I've had have both broken, though thats not really an issue, as it has great games. The Gamecube had FZero and Resident Evil 4. And Wind Waker. That is all I want more of.

So add a nice DVD player, media centre to the mix, along with all your fave Ninty games, and you have a wonderful piece of kit!

Well that is the way i am seeing things, I love my gcn, i wish it had more upcoming titles, i had some great moments with xb1, some less with ps2, I am really waiting to see what the rev is offering and then i am buying the first next-gen hardware, i just wish to see title that would offer great moments such as outrun2, resi4, yoshi touch n' go, ico, rez and all those title that defined my gaming education. I hope that developers will produce less shity games and more title that have the thing that makes me go :D when i see the title screen

But I have those things already - I obviously understand that MS and Sony are going for the markets they know they can make money of, but this also brings me to another issue: games on these formats will *mainly* appeal to this same audience. Which could be a Very Bad Thing For Games Indeed.

Regardless, you may have them all already, but one centralised unit, that will cope with all of our multimedia and entertainment needs, is something that manufacturers have been striving to do for a long while!

Because they have already shown with the PS2 that they can create and market a great gaming machine. Now they need to move it forward.

On another note, you are a complete moron.

hey nice nick name, suits you great by the way.

MS isn't that shitty? How about it failing in Japan because they were too American? Developers assisting them? How did SEGA help them? It was the other way round, MS was helping SEGA!

Playstation revolutionised gaming, and dragged it kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. Nintendo were stuck in the past with their old cartridges and by the time they switched to discs, it was too late. MS has been playing catch-up since the launch of the Xbox, but Xbox 360 will definitely see them competing with Sony at a more level footing.

no i am 10.

Dude! :D no wonder your posts dont make any sense!

Also: I realise the companies have strived to make a one-box-that-does-everything, but still, I dont really think its going to make my games particularly more fun, is all.

You are thinking about this all wrong...

Sure, the games arent going to be any better, simply because they shove a DVD player in the box, but thats not the point.

The DVD player adds functionality to the product, which in turn allows a more robust, and enjoyable experience on the whole.

Games have the potential to be great, the DVD player does not add or take away anything from this.

Well, I understand what you're saying, but I disagree. Putting everythig into one box means a wider market to sell said box to. Hence more games demanded by creator of box to sell to this maket. Hence we'll be in Sequel City and not much in the way of new, original, fun games. This situation has started to occur with the current gen, getting progressively worse towards the end of the PS2/Xbox's lifespan (though not so much with the GC).

I'm all for funky new tech, I'm just afraid soon there will be no Okamis/Icos/Katamaris anymore. Well, very few of them at least. Which will indeed be a sad time for games.

I just think you live in the wrong country for those type of games!

I believe that sony made ps1 to appeal to a wider audience, it did succeed in doing so but bringing more gamers to the market doesnt mean revolutionising the way games are being played. What exactly new did ps1 games have that others did not? Which was the first real 3d game? which console had first the analog stick? which one had first vibrating controllers? Give me a break n64 has brought the greatest revolution to video games. It was and it is the best console of all time.

Why should the country I live in restrict what games I get to play? Are you telling me, you'd be happy to play continuous extensions of exsiting franchises - bearing in mind that the tripe that does well in the charts is what gets remade and repackaged every year by EA? Or Sega? (they're going the same way too). In fact, in about 5-10 years time there will only be around 5 publishers left in the western hemisphere.

Fuck me, there's NEVER going to be another gitarooman, yet fucking bollocks like Medal of Honor continues to get yearly updates?

Because you are at the mercy of the western audience.

Those games you want to play, are all Japanese. They are always going to be available, just not to you!

If you really want to play them, then you are going to have to import.

I live in Vancouver, so its a damn site easier for me to get my gaming fix, due to the high amount of Koreans, Japanese, and Chinease people living here!

But for people back in Europe...its just hard luck.

I do import man, I HAVE TO ALREADY!

What you dont seem to be aware of is that the Japanese companies are starting to take fewer risks, what with all this ridiculous spiralling of game budgets. A game like Metal Gear/Resident Evil, though great, is still not going to be as successful as something like a Star Wars/Fifa/Medal of Honor/etc/etc franchise game.

The great games are going to die slowly. Its true. I work for Sega and I know what they have coming out soon. The only fun game atm is a GBA one.

What Im basically trying to say is eventually, even the big name Jap developers will be developing for this 'western' market, as it is where the money is. And games are going to go down the toilet.
