Mario Baseball

It certainly looks like a true nintendo game and it will probably fit in the same league as Mario Golf (which I adore) and Mario Tennins (which I haven't played, but none seem to like it that much).

Well, it's out.

Continuing the tradition started by such games as Mario Power Tennis and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Mario Baseball brings a new brand of fun to the world of baseball! Mario Baseball's intuitive hitting system, easy-to-learn fielding and pitching controls and wild, character-specific power moves go together like peanuts and bleacher seats. Mario Baseball delivers a terrific arcade-like experience that will appeal to baseball novices and hardcore fans alike.

Players can try their hands at Challenge Mode, where they must wander the land clearing baseball-related trials. Or they can sit down for a game in the Toy Field, where they hit balls at circles in the outfield to earn coins and other prizes. With more than 50 characters from the Mario universe, multiplayer options for up to four players, character-specific power moves and crazy mini-games, Mario Baseball is sure to be your new favorite pastime!

I'm going to have to try this.

I liked the Neo Geo baseball games, yet I never felt I had the control over the batting that I wanted. I'd often just hit the ball high in the air and watch it take about a minute to make its way into the hands of a fielder. My favourite baseball game to date is Sega's Baseball Advance on the GBA. It's my top ten of most-played games of the last five years: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...ce&s=videogames

Well I'm enjoying it...

Your 'cube icon says that you're playing the 'Mario Sports Series'. Which other ones are you playing and are they any good? The only one I've got is Mario Golf, which is good. I just fancy some more pick-up-and-play Cube stuff and Strikers / Baseball appeal for some reason.

I am currently moving between Golf, Soccer, Tennis and Baseball. The missus and I have mini tournaments over the odd evening. They are all a great alternative to all the serious sport shit that's out there. What's really odd is that I HATE all sport, yet these games are fun personified.

It's an excellent game, but it really shines in multiplayer. The single player mode could be a bit better. It won't take anyone long to play through it.

The pitching is simple, but done very well. Only a small selection of pitches are offered, but with the aftertouch they offer enough variety to make matches interesting. The batting is good, but novices may take a while to notice the position you take has as much effect on the hit as the timing of the swing. Once you get it nailed you should be able to hit base runs regularly against the CPU, and get a decent amount of homers too.

The mini games are lacking compared to the likes of Golf and Tennis, but they are fun for a short while. A game well worth getting for some good multiplayer laughs.

Got this from the Trading folder and I'm not sure! It's a bit odd. The girlfriend and I had a game last night and it ended 0-0 as every time we hit the ball it was caught or was a foul ball!

I think we need to read the manual.

Anyone else like this - is it worth a perservering with?

Not really. It seemed to lack the spark of the other Mario sports games when I played it and the novelty baseball grounds hindered rather than helped the game. The very stupid base running AI did not help either.

I enjoyed it and still have a few multiplayer games with the lads these days.

Benito you need to alter your stance when lining up to hit the ball and also take in to account if the character is a lefty or not. The first couple of games I played I was struggling to score, but after that I was knocking them away with ease. My only complaints about the game would be the single player game was far too short and the mini games were not good enough to provide any longevity.
