Tekken 5

I've said it before in this thread -probably- but I may as well say it again: Tekken 5 is really great.

It's true I do play high level Tekken, but I've seen a lot of people play Tekken 5 and have fun without wanting to be up on all the moves, tricks and tactical play. Tekken 5 is for everyone.

I don't have one but I've heard they're excellent - even from people that hate Tekken and bought it because they wanted a stick (it's made by hori). They're expensive though, I don't think there will be a UK release. So you're looking at playasia or equivalent.

Last I heard it was getting a release in the states, so it may be cheaper to wait for it to be released over there.

The stick is absolutely fantastic, though. Best one I've ever owned.

Im just on my way to buy this, having played Evo solidly for nearly 2 years im looking forward to learing a whole new game, a change is as good as a rest and all that.

Anyone in the Cambridge area fancy some lessons in Tekkenomics from me, queue up.

The silly thing is that Tekken 4 was technically better than 3. I liked the sloping floors and walls you can back onto, but on the whole it just seemed nowhere good enough. I prefer Tekken Tag, cos the tag element was class, but will probably end up getting Tekken 5 at some point.

The Tekken 5 stick you get in the bundle isn't the same as the one you buy seperately, it's made of cheaper parts. There was a link somewhere a while ago (probably on Click Stick if you want to hunt it down) that had the innards of the two compared.

That said, I have to one from the bundle and it's still pretty good - probably the best stick I've got so far, although I'll still be picking up a proper RAP later in the year hopefully.

Also, Devil Within is totally crap with no redeeming features whatsoever.

Well, yeah.

Long time VF fan. Always been wary of Tekken. Thought I'd give this a go.

Tekken is FIFA and VF is Pro Evo Soccer. This is nasty and shit.

o/\o

So true :P

And btw fanboy, I aint no button masher  eddie IS a character that beginners can use, but once mastered he's a mean character. Pretty much like any character in Tekken really.

I'm so sick of seeing this attitude. I know a lot of Virtua Fighter players who think they have the authority to rubbish the Tekken series and I just don't get it at all. They're different games. Really different games. They play COMPLETELY differently.

I'm convinced it's just a case of Virtua Fighter players picking up Tekken, saying "this is different to Virtua Fighter", getting beaten, feeling frustrated and then announcing Tekken is "nasty and shit" - or some other phrase that tells you NOTHING about why the game is bad. If I saw analyses from VF players along the lines of "the controls feel unresponsive, the system of one button per limb is contrived, high level play relies too much on set-pieces, the character design is uninspired and the arenas make it too easy to fluke a perfect" (all potentially valid criticisms) then I'd be much less angry at seeing so many VF players display disgust at Tekken. But that's not the case at all! It's always the same rubbish "Tekken is shit! VF RULES!!!!111", no analysis.

I play Tekken and Virtua Fighter and can see merit in them both. I admit, when I first played Tekken (around Tekken 2-era) I didn't like it at all. Maybe for as long as two years. But I've played it a lot since then and appreciate how it's put together to the extent that whenever I see someone rubbish it I am sure they are just ignorant.

Oh and regarding Christie/Eddy. That character IS good for button mashers but there's thoughtful, clever, advanced play that can be done with her/him too. There are some great match videos showing how to use the character well. And guess what? Most Eddy/Christie experts started out as button mashers.
