Willei
http://66.90.101.52/~gfb/MJ/Third%20Strike...20-%20Daigo.wmv Who'd have thought a jump kick could be such a thrilling finish? Pity the game's still pants!
TheShend
I watched the finals for CFJ. It just doesn't appeal what-so-ever. Even when watching 'high-level' play, it's still a turn off. And it's getting a release this friday with LIVE. Pass me thinks.
Jim Miles
Here are the quarters, semi-finals and finals from this year's SBO (Japan's biggest fighting game tourney).Requires free registration, but it's well worth it. A good chance to check out high-level play. ← Bah, I started downloading and it stopped at 17MB now it won't let me download again. And if you can't be arsed registering get them here for no work what-so-ever!http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91522 There's 3S and CFJ finals as well. ← Bah, those simply don't work for me. Do you have to pretend to be in Asia? Incidentally, you *need* to check out the JPN torrent doing the rounds a couple of weeks ago featuring Pyrolee and Frankie3S up against the locals. Ridiculously cool matches. ← Bah, I can't use torrents on my Uni connection. So in summation: BAH!
Willei
When I downloaded them earlier, there seemed to be a ridiculous pause before the download actually began. Unless you get a 404/403 or something...
gravity0
Jim: Try using something like Getright which'll resume an unfinished download. Providing you haven't deleted the partially downloaded file, of course.
palaver
Wow, those Tekken vids are...interesting. It seems you don't want to give Steve a lot of openings. Or get stuck on a wall. The number of perfects is perhaps a bit odd too. Not that I know anything about it of course. Anyway, thanks for the link grav0!

palaver
Hehe! It's okay Jim, I believe you. The full extent of being juggled halfway across the stage before enjoying some more hot wall based beating didn't really occur to me.
Jim Miles
In other news, that match video download wants to work again so I might get to see these special T5 matches all the cool kids are talking about.

It seems you don't want to give Steve a lot of openings. ← That's another thing I really hate about playing the game at higher levels. Let your opponant get a single hit on you, and wave goodbye to half your bar with a stupid juggle combo! Every character seems to have a way to do this as well, so it's not just Steve or anything. Not that stepping on your toe and punching you in the face isn't daft or anthing...
Guest
I just downloaded a video, and it wasn't of Tekken 5. Thanks!
node
I was deeply unimpressed with the arcade version. Much better than the ugly and slow 4 but still just more of the same. How they can be the same company behind the superb SC is beyond me.
Jim Miles
Even if I thought Tekken was a rubbish series and inferior to Soul Calibur (which I don't), I'd have to accept its greater presence in high profile tournaments and were I to follow such tournaments I may have to accept that the game appeared to have more depth than the Soul Calibur series. The sad thing is, I'll probably go along and buy it anyway, just to thrash off some fools with Karin's one button VC on Xbox Live.
Jim Miles
Your point is invalidated by the fact that CFJ is also played in tournaments. ← Except for the fact that my point isn't "Tekken is featured in tournaments and therefore is not rubbish". I'm saying that Tekken 5 is already more popular in tournaments than previous Soul Caliburs have been and by studying the styles of play in tournaments we can learn more about a game's deeper mechanics than playing it ourselves. In essence my point is "I may think a game is poor, but others who know more than me prove me wrong".

Willei
Capcom Fighting Jam. It's dire, seems to share most of it's mechanics with CVS2 which is damning enough. Capcom USA does it again! And yet, I'd rather be playing that than Tekken 5.
essell
ahhhhhh. and i'm looking forward to tekken 5 meself what is it with the commentator in those vids going fucking bonkers?

essell
think i'll be snapping this up when it comes out on friday. if i feel like shelling out, where should i be looking to buy a decent hori stick, and how much for?
Smoothy
Play.com is advertising Tekken 5 as being out now. Worth ordering it now (considering I won't get it till next week) or just waiting till Fri?
robdood
My least favourite aspect of Tekken are the juggles.. Personally I would've liked to have a Soul Calibur 2 style air control feature, maybe that activates after 2-3 hits. Playing against the VF champ at tekken the other week just totally put me off tekken. We had much better matches on VF/Soul Calibur

Smoothy
That wouldn't be hard. Tekken 4 was a disappointment, especially coming after Tekken Tag.
lau
it's one of those series that always holds a special place, and when the time is right you feel like coming back to it. the last tekken game i had on a home console was tekken 3, i skipped tag because i didn't have a ps2 then and skipped 4 as i didn't like the arcade game the couple of times i've played it. i played tekken 5 the arcade game a couple of times and really enjoyed it - it seems to have a nice balance as well as a certain nostalgia factor for me. i'm obviously speaking as a casual tekken player, but i think its gonna be a nice game to have around in general, especially in a student house - everyone knows how to play tekken. ianwuk
I loved Tekken 3 and really enjoyed Tekken Tag Tournament. But Tekken 4 was a disappointment to me mainly because they changed the style of Jin Kazama (my favourite character) so I just went back to Tekken Tag and Tekken 3. Because Tekken 5 is supposed to be a lot like Tekken 3 (and also includes Tekken 3) then I would get this except I no longer own a PS2 and the rumours of a multiformat Tekken 5 were just that, rumours, roll on Tekken 6 on PS3.
