Dunno about other servers, but Alliance and Horde now arrange duels on Azjol Nerub. Basically we meet up just east of SS, use some emotes to pick your dueler, switch pvp on and duel it out.

Much more fun as you get CP points and get to fight the horde without guards!. <_<

It did seem like the general alliance folk were a bit lost in the free ranging battles, and that force of numbers is relied upon too much.

Roll on Battlegrounds!

Yup, there aren't that many good solo fighters... yet. I should know :P Maybe three of the lvl 60 Mages are good and smart (ie. finger always on the Blink button, never resting without a mana shield etc), and I've also met one or two good priests, and a single good druid.

I have to admit though, during the last two or so weeks the alliance have pulled their shit together, from a rogue's point of view. People stick to the flock, use lots of Flares etc.

... which is why I can't wait for BGs.

PS. If you have access to the test servers, go visit Southshore. Hundreds of corses lying everywhere... it's like a WW1 battlefield. TM seemed to have less for some reason.

At something of a loose end the other night, I decided to hang out around the Crossroads and help stop the usual reprobates charging in and killing the quest givers and the like. Sure enough, on touching down the chat window flashed with 'Gold Road is under attack!', 'Help, they're corpse camping me!' and so on. Soon enough, they reach the XR - a few 50s, ten or so 40somethings and a dozen late20s-mid30s - and the battle begins, with the Horde outnumbered as usual but we begin to drive them back a mile or so then return to the XR for a breather. It's on the way back that I see an early 20s troll running for dear life from a 40s mage and late 40s rogue - dismount, fear the mage, annihilate the rogue then turn back to finish the mage. The troll cheers and we walk back to the XR.

"Camp Taurajo is under attack!"

With this, most of the other defenders up sticks and charge down the road, leaving me and a couple of 30s to hold the fort. As expected, some of our earlier foes return and stand at the gates. The weight of almost a dozen targeting clicks weigh heavy on my head as a standoff occurs, no one moving. Then someone folds and all hell breaks loose. Again. As before, the Alliance fail to make their numbers count, even against the players several levels below them. They begin to fall back. They start to turn. They start to run.

The Taurajo diversion taken care of, the others return and help continue the pursuit. We drive them down into Ratchet, we drive them down onto the dock. The boat is docked and quickly fills while ice and flame cascades from the sky behind them. As it starts to pull out, I spot a human dive into the engineer's workshop for cover. I walk into the building - she stands at the top of the stairs, a mere 46, no threat. 'Go.' I tell her and despite the language barrier the message seems to get through, she begins to hearth out. Then a 52 druid walks in on us. 'She's no threat', I say but he does not spare her, she is quickly and brutally cut down. The druid turns to me, laughs wickedly and says 'None shall escape!' And who am I to argue?

For the Horde!

There was some great PVP going on this weekend, a raid on TB where the alliance managed to get onto the walkways to the top of the main lifts and promptly got slaughtered and a huge raid on Ogg last night that I walked into by accident, maybe 100 Alliance. They didn't get past the front gate of course, but then neither did I because the lag was just out of this world. I found I was attacking people in the positions they were in 5 minutes before.

So last night I'm waiting at the Zep tower when a warrior challenges me to a duel. I don't have Demon Armour on, haven't got a pet out and a quick inspection of his gear reveals an almost full set of Valor gear, a nasty looking axe and a Draconic Deflector. 'Fuck it' I think, and accept, spending 1500 mana on the Demon Armour, backing away quickly and taking my chances without little Nalqua's stam boost and firebolts or Bronx's seduction techniques.

Duel starts, the warrior charges in and stuns me instantly. For what was probably only 3 to 5 seconds but which felt like an eternity, this armour plated fucker is hacking away at me with terrifying speed, my hp already down past 50%. A wonderful start.

Able to move again, I leap over him, casting the usual insta DoTs, followed by an Immolate, Shadowburn a Death Coil to top up my heath and the last remaining charge on my Discombulator (don't leave home without one). Unsurprisingly, being turned into a leper gnome freaks him out - he starts backing off! I use the opportunity to risk a shadowbolt but he runs in trying to stop me. He slows it down but I still manage to blast him with it and it does a respectable but not spectacular 1100+. By now, I'm hideously low on mana and he's back to normal size and power but I start Life Draining as he's hacking chunks out of me. My health drops then rises then drops then rises while his just keeps going down. Finally, with my health almost gone, he drops to his knees and surrenders. He cheers at me and meekly gets onto the Zep, which has finally arrived. I bow gracefully, sit down on top of the stairwell cover and eat some biscuits while wondering exactly how much I could have destroyed him if I'd actually been prepared for a fight. Hell, I didn't even have to Fear the bastard.

Warlocks. For. The. Win.

That's the shittest warrior I've ever heard of. And he's wearing valour gear? The spacker, it's a piece of shit. About as good as a Lock in full dreadmist.

Lets face it - warriors are hardly known for being big in the brains department, are they? Give them an axe and they think they're Jesus or something.

But yes, scary considering he was 60 and no doubt had months of play under his belt. I hope no one's relying on him heavily for anything...

To be fair, tanking and duelling are completely different. Could be the best tank in the game for all you know.

Anyway, I was questing in STV, and noticed some herbs, so went over to pick them. Suddenly I get the "Failed" thing, and notice I'm taking hits. I turn round and there's an Orc Hunter there a level above me setting his pet raptor on me (I was 42, he was 43) and lining me up for an aimed shot. I quickly shield and run at him, pet in tow. I have no idea what he thought I was doing, but I'm sure that most people would have guessed that if a priest tries to get close to you he's got one thing in mind - fear. Instead he must have thought "sucker!" and pulls out his swords and goes to melee me, but its too late. He's running away before he gets a hit on me. I SW:P and heal up, and considering that I assume that he's going to range me, start up mind blast, which hits. He sends the pet in again, which I ignore, and start wanding him (I was low on mana when I went herb picking). I'm not desperate enough to use a potion, and he isnt doing enough damage (and I have a refresh ticking) to make me use one. Then after my mana has ticked up enough, I shield again and charge. You'd think he'd see it coming and try to move but he doesnt. He's psychic screamed. This time I do use a potion, and unleash as many of my offensive spells as poss. He dies. I laugh.

No. Any Warrior who thinks he'll receive any kind of benefit from Valor is stupid and therefore rubbish. There is a better individual piece of clothing that when combined is better than a full set of Valor. It's the same for every class.

And he was dueling a cloth-wearer with a shield? Nutter. Unless he's prot-spec, and his only decent instant attack is shield slam, but then i'd hope that a prot-spec warrior would know better than to wear valor (you have to be pretty dedicated to tanking to go prot spec, and any half-decent tank should wear a good set of +def gear, rather than valor).
