Oh of course. I realise nobody at Rare wanted it to turn out bad, but during the course of 5 years why did no-one grab the game by the scruff of the neck and say, "this game is fundamentally flawed" and get to work sorting it out. I mean, take the first level. The very first level that sets its stall out and says to the gamer, right this is what i'm all about. It's just plain AWFUL. Spider bots which are a poor man's headcrabs. (Not only is the man poor, he has leprosy.) AI so bad that your buddy at the end just stands in the doorway taking bullets as if he knows the level is just a battle simulation so doesn't give a shit how many times he gets shot. Then the finale with gunships and blokes on jetpacks flying around in the air shooting the crap out of you. Oh yes, that's what we need in an FPS, things whizzing around above my head. I mean, this is the first level and it's blatantly clear that the designers don't give a monkey's arse how well it plays. The whole thing is badly designed and badly implemented.

Yes, people who spent 5 years on this game just didnt care. At the end of the day the game went through three different system changes, was rushed and well sometimes its hard to polish a turd of a game without scraping it and starting again.

That's no excuse. What about Kameo then? It is in the exact same position. Some people may not like Kameo's graphic design but it's a very polished game and at the very least a graphical showcase for the 360's power.

Perfect Dark Zero. I got sick of looking at the hideous, plastic toytown graphics. I got fed up watching the AI characters running back and forth like crabs attached to lengths of elastic. I grew weary of the Z-movie voice acting and "plot". I traded it in yesterday and jumped for joy.

Tha's debatable. I thought it was an awfully flawed game. Its game that shows it was made for another time period. The characters were just bland, no new ideas. The only time it was good was when they ripped off Lord of the Rings.

Even little things when you had to roll a pearl over a star fish. How frustrating, when a game like Billy Hatcher shows how to roll a ball I'm sure a machine capable of this caliber can do the same.

I do agree with the graphics, they were at times it blew me back but nothing in the game capitlised on this

Kameo is not fundamentally flawed and broken like PDZ though. As an added bonus it actually feels finished as well.

i think PDZ is becoming the "in fashion" game of hate judging by some peoples comments :D

I think the game is alright. So far played it a few hours, it's no N64 PD, but a decent sci-fi fps for the 360 for rental or picking up cheap. Marginally better than rival Timesplitters Future Perfect was, imo. The PDZ stages are conceptually excellent, even if actual level design is frustrating. The weapons and gadgets feel a bit random but at least are gimmicky enough to be fun to toy around with for quite a while before getting boring, some weapons are quite awesome actually. I like the relatively expansive stages together with guide-arrows that show me where the next piece of action will be so I don't get lost/bored. The graphics look fake in a good way, with a cool next-gen shinyness and bump mapping so everything looks arcade-like, rather than predictably realistic. The music is not that good but at least it sounds "expensive", like it's being produced by Paul Oakenfold or something. And after all is said and done, Joanna is still a cool character despite not being the same as in the original. Haven't tried multiplayer yet, but they've got bots (yay) and I've heard good things about online sieges by human teams of skeletons, so it sounds like they've got things covered.

Hmm after significantly more play I'm going to revise my initial impressions a bit

PD0 rewards repeated play more than any FPS I've played since Halo.

This game demands that you put some effort and thought into it and when you do that, it rewards you.

Partly, I have to agree with these comments. And that's a nice feeling about single-player PDZ, now that I can see it. A successful throwback to retro style fps, while still throwing new interesting things at the player, and giving the player options to tackle things in several different ways with different weapons, etc.

I just can't believe it's from the same people that brought us Goldeneye.

I actually like it better in single-player than Goldeneye now (Still not as much as PD1 though).

The playability of the incremental quick-zoom scopes are particularly excellent...

Learning the stage layouts on lowest Agent and them moving on to replay them at higher difficulties using more advanced tactics seems to be the way to go.

The levels are not shit. Not at all. Like Sega Ages says, they're built in a certain way to allow you to explore them and tackle them in numerous ways dependent on what weaponry you take in with you.

The art direction is open for debate. Yeah, it looks a bit plasticky, but I like it for some odd reason. Each to their own.

Hey everyone,

Just thought I would post and tell you all to keep checking the official site. New information will be posted very soon. We have all been working very hard at getting the next update ready. I would also like to thank everyone who has helped flush out some of the cheats and exploits. We have spent a great deal of time getting them fixed and tested. Now if no major ones are reported that we have not already fixed, we should be done getting those in.

Anyway we are almost at the finish line. Just a little more patience and we will be out soon!

The game just makes me cry. I'm the biggest GE fan on the forum. It's sad this game wasnt even able to compete with PD on the N64. I wanted tighter levels with a few open sections, this game was the opposite.

Does anyone know if they're making the guns work and including checkpoints in the update. That would be a massive boost to sales.

Does anyone know if they are going to calibrate the crosshair properly in the update? How does GRAW / Battlefield 2 / COD2 get this simple thing so right but PDZ and Far Cry Instincts Evolution can't?

THIS is the main thing that pissed me off about PDZ. Halo style checkpoints, or even ones that were better spread apart would have reduced the extreme frustration from levels such as the Jungle one. I resent being really careful, playing through for upwards of 30mins and then suddenly being blown up by a completely hidden enemy and having to start again.

Official press release confirms new PDZ content is ready to be launched...

Microsoft Game Studios and Rare today announced that a free playable demo and new downloadable content for “Perfect Dark Zero” will be available via Xbox Live Marketplace, providing new challenges for existing gamers and an opportunity for new fans to join the fight against dataDyne.

The “Perfect Dark Zero” demo will soon be available for free via Xbox Live Marketplace and grants gamers access to an exclusive preview of one of the best-selling Xbox 360 launch titles. Leap into the world of Joanna Dark by playing through the Outpost in solo mode, with a friend via split screen co-op, or cooperatively over Xbox Live. Next, challenge friends, strangers and AI bot enemies alike on the brand new multiplayer map: Plaza. Additionally, several updates will soon be made available for current owners of the game that will automatically load upon signing on to Xbox Live.

Included in the free auto-updates are eight new bot personalities, making these artificially intelligent enemies even more treacherous. Some of the new bots even get personal: judge bots instinctively attack the player with the most kills, while bully bots attack the player with the least. Venge bots are constantly out for blood, targeting the last person that killed them. The infamous DarkOps Bots are being added, as well, and will be available in all multiplayer scenarios.

Rumors from Xboxyde are that Rare will release the demo and new full auto-update including bots for free, possibly today, then the 4 new purchasable maps (Trench, Rooftops, Plaza, Gasplant) a short while after that. They also have a trailer showing the new maps.

The new bot personalities are pretty good. The new maps are... okay, I guess. One has lots of opportunities for sniping and it's pretty fun if there's lots of people in the game.

It's not going to change the way you feel about the game though. :)
