Bully

I can see it now:

PIXELLATED CHILDREN IN MILD SEXUAL EXPERIMENTATION SHOCKER.

Well precisely. Except they won't describe it as 'mild' will they? And the sort of people who get upset over stuff like that probably wouldn't consider it so.

The Hot Coffee thing was contraversial because the media (and many people) can't comprehend the idea that a game isn't aimed at children. Here we have a game that *is* aimed at children.

although I have super Jet lag managed to grab the usa version and have been playing this none stop.

My highlight has to be firing my catapult from a tree at the jocks getting some football practice in.

Its very very good indeed.

Although it's bring ing my school career all back, fire alarm pulling, and endless visits to the headmaster lol

I've seen absolutely no evidence so far beyond it being set in a school and on the PS2 to imply that that is the case. It's got an unpronouncable name, there's absolutely zero marketing, it doesn't have a very cartoony feel to it and the script and characters so far seem very intelligient. It's aimed at relatively well informed gamers until Take Two's marketing department decide otherwise. They don't seem to be doing much of anything for it.

If saying an 18 game is 'aimed at adults' it's perfectly reasonable to think that a 15 rated game isn't specifically aimed at adults. Particulary one which mainly depicts 15 year old children. Of course it's aimed at children (and adults too).

If this is remotely like Skool Daze then it will definitely appeal to school kids. Marketing? The media is doing that for free - which has surely been the plan all along.

Why does non cartoony graphics and intelligent script (not if that video is anything to go by) mean it isn't aimed at children? Lots of childrens media is live action and intelligent. Lots of children are intelligent.

I'm not so sure. It's too 80's kerrazy boarding school movie to be aimed a children. They just won't get the references, or the gayism.

You're seriously suggesting this game is specifically aimed at people in their 30's?

I haven't seen much of the game apart from a couple of videos, what wouldn't they 'get' and why would it matter?

If anything the media would get more mileage out a game aimed at adults featuring homosexual children.

although so far I am having immense fun with itching powder, and chucking marbles on the floor.

Causing all sorts of riots and hiding in lockers.

I have just opened up the map and the gameworld is not just the school attall. There are 5 large areas to be had.

The combat is really really good, and I have a nice reportoire of moves already. blocks and reversals are there and u can diss your oponent as you fight.

I knew this would be good but not as good as this.

Absolutely. It's for Rockstar fans.

The music, the in-jokes the subtle references. Have a go, and you'll see what I mean. It's not easily explained.

I'm sitting here trying to think of a game that isn't aimed at children, and I'm struggling. But as with the GTAs a lot of the humour will be lost on them and they'll concentrate on putting stink bombs in people's lockers and stealing dirty pants from the girls' dorm. Which obviously is no fun for me. I'm all about the satire, baby. :)

I agree. Personally I thing GTA is aimed mainly at kids. I'm really talking about the 15 rating meaning they can't pretend the game is aimed at adults.

Woah, nelly! The BBFC rating is not a marketing tool. A 15 rating means it is not suitable material for anyone under the age of 15. That's all. To suggest that games as entertainment are not viable products produced by and for adults is simply foolhardy.

Eh? Of course the rating is a marketing tool. That's how it got started in the games industry with companies like CRL getting 18 ratings for lame Dracula games.

GTA is pretty much the perfect game design for a 14 year old. Of course adults can enjoy it (I did - for a bit) but at 14 I would have thought it the best thing ever. Nowadays I'm more interested in less sensational stuff.

And as far as I can remember the game contained nothing that you wouldn't see in 15 rated movie. 18 ratings for games are a bit daft (so far).

I think you add gravitas to Keith Vaz's belief's with that sentiment. Personally I find the BBFC ratings a suitable level of restriction and the guidelines they impose fall in the right side of morality and acceptability.

The problem derives from the perception still that games are for kids. Rockstar have said many times that they make games for adults - the fact that kids will find these themes interesting is no different than other discoveries they will try and find in their lives - porn mags, first sip of lager, two's up on a cig etc...
