Bully

Updating Skool Daze is a great idea.  Pretty commercial too, I would have thought.  It's certainly something we can pretty much all identify with.

Totally agree. If anything it's probably the name of the game that's causing the fuss. Although isn't it funny that a forum that would defend a game to the hilt that involves drive by shootings, shagging whores and basically allows you to kill anything that moves get's it's knickers in a twist about this game/title. What are gangsters if not adult bullies?

Skool Daze was updated and it was called Class of '99 (I think). I'd be more interested in this if, as mentioned, you get the chance to get back at the bullies, if it is the other way then it's just more controversy and effort for the likes of the Daily Mail.

That wasn't really an update. It was a modifed remake. It was pretty faithful to the original speccy game.

By update I mean take the basic concept but implement it using modern tech and playability. i.e. bring the game uptodate.

God, what a bunch of cynics.

Vaguely original game concept and it's all the "Oh - Little Computer People. That's was fine when I was 10 on the spectrum, but isn't going to cut it now" we saw circa 2000 and a certain Maxis release.

KG

Haha!

Amazing how people normally say they want this, and then when someone has a go they get all cynical.

I do think it's a nice idea <_<

If it is like GTA style gameplay and graphics, and you get to beat the fuck out of teachers and Kids, then I'm sold.

2 player mode action. One hold them down, second steal their lunch money B)

I think its a game thats been screaming to be updated. I'm surprised it's taken this long really... And no, that muckybaby game doesn't count. Klass of 99 by the way was superb. I even got a mention on the credits.

I think it would be quite a shame if it did end up going down the route of hard violence in a Larry Clark style of way. There's a lot of joy and fun to be had from school, everyone has been there (I hope) and everyone has memories of events like sports day, parents evening, first snog, school yard football, fluffed science experiments etc... It's a perfect base to lay a game on top of.

I did do a concept many years ago for a game set in a secondary school, and it involved skilled mini games (Conkers, Shove-penny, killer ball etc...) as well as RPG elements like chatting up girls, making friends, trading football cards as well as time-management elements such as social time and home work time after school, both having benefits to certain aspects of the game but obviously hindering other areas.

It's a fun subject and one of the only ones where you can pretty much guarantee that every audience member has preset knowledge about.

Don't like to moan about games, but that could go either way. If you DO play the kid that gets back at the bullies, I'm all for it. If the whole POINT is to bully, it can fuck off. :\

Yeah I agree.

I imagine it can go either way depending how you play the game, it'll probably use a Fable like evil/good meter so you can pick and choose what you do, after all the game would be total shit playing as teachers pet; but saving up all your pocket money to hire the big kids to beat shite out of the kid bullying you, ohhhhhh yes <_<

Well the release says, "As a troublesome schoolboy, you'll laugh and cringe as you stand up to bullies, get picked on by teachers, play pranks on malicious kids, win or lose the girl, and ultimately learn to navigate the obstacles of the fictitious reform school, Bullworth Academy."

And people are drawing comparisons with columbine... crikey!!! I haven't heard anything more about the details yet, but I reckon the world needs a next-gen Mikey.

sounds interesting but i'm sure it will be a much more lighthearted affair than expected from Rockstar.

i really hope so. so far i've been giving rockstar the creative benefit of the doubt as to whether they're ignorant / cheap enough to make something shocking purely for the sake of shock value, but this one could so easily stir up some unnecessary shit.

[edit] mind you, it could turn out to be a pretty funny / interesting game <_<

It's because their memories of when they were bullied are still a little fresh.

Depending on your good/evil route, the ending involves you either going to college and leading a successful career or become a scruffy bastard drinking a bottle of Bella behind some shops randomly shotuing 'Merrrrrt!!!!'.

Ace.

I hope you'll be able to play soccer lunch time. Moving the goal posts when noone is looking, getting ridiculous scores like 42-39. Accidentally toeing the ball and breaking a window :o

Playable over Live too. That sounds fantastic. especially if you keep the generous sidelines that go on to the edge of the field. You could even have arguements whether it was in or over the imaginary crossbar.

Ahhhhhhh memories. Bring it out now!

Well you're in luck because the game IS about standing up to the bullies and sticking up for the little guys. The trailer is out there now, I saw it on IGN.

October 2006 is the release date but the trailer gives nothing away as to how it plays. I guess we'll have to wait for an in depth preview somewhere.
