Veronica Mars - 8 new episodes July 26th 2019

Recommended Posts

It was the pilot for the network to convince them to make a fourth series set after college with Veronica at the FBI Academy. It didn't get picked up because it looked the same as million other police procedurals but it is on youtube now if you want to check it out.

Thanks dude.

Probably around episode 6 after Veronica gets rid of her boyfriend in a silly turn of events. Round about that point Logan Echolls comnes to the fore. He's a real love him one minute, think he's a dick the next antagonist with a pretty interesting character arc throughout the series.

The second season improves on the first in a lot of ways. Rich beach blond Dick comes on board as a major character who's usually fun to watch. The 'who' in the whodunnit of ther series is a little iffy, though. Still, it's also got, in my opinion, the best episode of the whole show in episode 11's 'Donut Run'.

The third's a bit of a let-down in comparison. They decided to split the series into two mysteries instead of one so it doesn't flow as well and some things get wrapped up a little too quickly. It's still got its moments, however.

This seems to be causing all kinds of debate in my Twitter feed and I'm unsure where I stand on it.

On one hand, I think it's a great example of creator/fan power. They've gave themselves a voice by funding via kickstarter and it looks like the studio is going to move forward with the film. On the other hand, the people have essentially donated money to a massively profitable organisation who has no commercial or artistic interest in the property.

Also, someone run the numbers of funders against average cinema tickets minus studio costs and - as of 8am this morning anyway - if every person who donated bought a ticket on opening weekend then Veronica Mars:The Movie would make $300k, which has got to be a huge red flag to the studio.

I feel torn because something like this could get me that Dredd sequel that I so desperately want but something about all this just feels a little off.

Well, that should be how Kickstarter works. A well-run project should use the money to get going, but not financially kill the creator if it turns out no-one wants the end result apart from the people that backed it. Everyone happy (or at least, not ruined).

That said, in this case I don't think that is true. I'm not entirely keen on the fact the money is going to a Warner Bros. bank account, but it seems very ambitious to get the whole funding from Kickstarter, which has to add a massive element of risk of it not receiving the rest of the funding. It might do it, but it's a lot of money.

It's a shame they couldn't buy the rights and do what they wanted with it.

I'm not sure that "number of funders on day one" is representative of "who might go to see the movie".

Besides, I'm also sure that if "number of funders" are prepared to put $2.5 million where their mouth is (and by the end of the kickstarter, presumably about $5 million), there will be sufficient cash to make a short tv-style film, and the studio might still make a profit from it.

Shame it is limited to the US only. That Blu-ray with making of documentary better become available at Amazon etc. as well.

Rob Thomas has said on Twitter that they're working on some 'thorny issues' to allow for international backers and to check back in a week or two. Fingers crossed. I might end up backing it anyway as long as I can get a digital copy of the movie.

This has all made me want to watch the series again but I can't find the DVDs anywhere for a sensible price

Started watching Veronica Mars finally, I admit it was the Kickstarter which made me dust off the dvds to finally watch it but so far its pretty damn good. I was hesitant at first but Veronica is a great character, she's similar to Buffy in many ways but I find her much more likeable. The only gripe so far is s3 doesn't quite match up with the previous 2 seasons but only 3 episodes deep, and its reminding me how much I missed the principal from and also how bad that season was with Buffy when she was at college.

Speaking of Buffy, I'm pretty sure Whedon was a big fan of VM, and had a cameo in one episode.

Finished Veronica Mars.

Didn't enjoy S3 as much unlike the previous 2 seasons where there was one major mystery to be solved. In S3 that goes out of the window and we have 3 different mini events instead which never really delivers. Plus Wallace is sidelined which annoyed me and instead we get these new vapid characters which never do anything.

Anyway really enjoyed the first two seasons a lot, its one of those series if I didn't watch more than the first few episodes I would have dismissed as this OC type high school school but I'm glad I was proven wrong.

I don't know I thought there was a good Logan moment or two at the end of season 3. Although it's been a while since I saw it so I could be misremembering.

I really didn't like the Veronica and Logan thing.

I thought at the dean's death was going to be the big mystery of the season but they soon dispensed with that and then moved into another arc after the 'female rape' crimes which had no blowblack at all.
