Does anyone else watch this?

I just got done watching the penultimate episode of the first series. It was absolutely insane. Brilliant stuff. Dealt with the main character being drugged and raped at a party. Her relationships with a lot of the other main characters came to a head and it just struck me how deep they are and just how unique that is. They feel like real human relationships. It helps that the storyline is so involved too, acting is mostly very good and there's twists in there to make even Alias look bad.

Don't think it really has a fan base over here but has been rather adopted by the disillusioned Buffy crowd of late. It's a high school drama, generally quite light-hearted about some Private Investigator schoolgirl (stick with me here). It's exceptionally written though and can just take the most delightfully dark turns when you least expect. I find myself blown off my feet at a regular basis. It's far too smartly written for it's own good but it's now been picked up for a second season.

So if you get an opportunity to watch a few episodes you should certainly do so.

Cool, I was gonna start a thread about VM.

Yeah I quite like it, pretty much too the extend I'm now having to pick this or the shield to put on my PSP Wednesday morning. I love the way of each episode has it's own little mystery which ties in with the bigger mystery of the series, hich I suppose is just a testiment to the writing

One problem I have is when trying to explain to people how good it is

I end up describing it making it sound a bit shit: private eye dad, mum missing, set in california with token black friend.

3 other things, it's been picked up by Sky one I heard recently, the second series is gonna have a whole other mystery and the writer/exec producer hangs around on tv without pity forums.

I've watched a bunch of episodes and I like it. I'm gonna plow through season one as soon as Lost calms down.

Anyone else digging the visual grittiness of it all? I think it works really well juxtaposed against the bubblegum characters.

I’d definitely welcome a second series.

The thing that really got me was in the ep 2 week's ago, it was pretty light hearted and about a dog kidnapper. They catch him using true Scooby Doo techniques and then when they catch up with him this girl who lost a dog just goes fucking mental and tortures him.

They're not scared to hurt their characters and it has real progression. Even just within the course of the first season they've developed through their experiences with each other. If you were to watch the first few and then skip forwards to the end you'd wonder what the hell was going on and whether they'd all had lobotomies.

TV gets absolutely no better than that and I watch a fuckload of it. What a finale.

My biggest criticism of the show up to this point is probably the way that they never really put Veronica in danger, bloody hell did they make up for that. Ends on a bit of a cliffhanger and it's certainly the first show I'll be looking out for come next season.

Lilly Kane (Amanda Seyfried) is fucking gorgeous as well.

Awesome awesome awesome final episode - still thinking about it a day later. Man it moved so fast, they packed about 5 eps worth of plot twists into 45 minutes and it ended on such a satisfying note.

At the same time, some nice, if minor cliffhangers for next season...already counting down the days,

Yeah, quite a lot actually. The last few episodes are brilliant with all the important loose ends tied up, can't wait for the new season.

Probably the worst idea ever, the first series is this one big murder mystery. If you've gotta start at the second series it seems like there is gonna be a total new mystery. So you should be alright

The DVD of the first series is out early October, if you can wait or there is a torrent at the usual places.

Spoiler about cameos in S2

Both Joss Weldon and Kevin Smith are big fans and are gonna do cameos early on in the series

The funny thing about Kevin Smith being in the show is that he hadn't seen a single episode until he did his cameo! After that he and his wife watched the entire first season and they became massive fans. It's all on his blog. He rates it as one of the top five tv shows ever.
