Stuck as a stuck thing in Resident Evil 4 at the point in chapter 2 where the path branches. I keep choosing the left path and those two biatches with chainsaws keep kicking my ass. Might try the right path tonight :)

Still loving Hot Shots - I keep getting better at it, still love unlocking stuff. Awesomeness.

I used the 3rd person view more as the game went on as well. Just cause it let me look at the prettiness of the game more as well. I also found the transition from 1st to 3rd painless too. I don't think it's fair to compare it to Riddick as that's just a FPS with some 3rd person viewpoints for certain actions. Stranger is more an amalgamation of both.

I'm not really finding it that pretty to be honest. The game world feels and looks cluttered to my eyes. But then, I've yet to see the fabled Mongo River.

The transition between viewpoints is really botched IMO. I know this flies in the face of popular opinion, but it hasn't once felt natural to me, more like it's two game styles where there should only be one. Another example - jump off ledge in 1st, Stranger falls flat on his face. Camera changes to 3rd person and leaves you stuck in it.

Why?!

Picked up the Xbox version of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time after playing through the sequel and wanting a better version. I origionally owned it on PS2 but I got rid of my PS2 over a year ago. Though this will be my 4th playthorugh.

Such a great game.

Although I agree with Paul, that twat soldier that yells at you to help him turn on the traps is fucking annoying. Great voice work for everyone in the game except THAT fucker.

Currently playing Zelda a link to the past on my Gba but Im stuck :)

Im now on the second map as the rabbit, what the hell am I supposed to do now?

Cheese it by grabbing the moon pearl from the dungeon. IIRC, you can get to another section of the mountain as the rabbit and then continue onto the dungeon.

I must admit I share your views on Stranger. I ended up giving up on it through sheer bordem/annoyance.

The two Oddworld games on the PSX are my favourite games on the original Playstation. Hell I even enjoyed Munches on the Xbox, but Stranger just left me cold.

I do like the graphics in town, when you're in Doc's house for example, and the blast of sunlight from the doors as you leave a building. They've obviously put a lot of thought into the look of it, but so far the towns have just been a hub for my next Bounty, with nothing to actually do in them, and some annoying Hen People to boot. Shouldn't really have been a surprise, since I've always hated the Oddworld art style and humour.

The sound balance doesn't help. I'm constantly turning up the volume to hear some crass and oddly crackly piece of dialogue, only to have to turn it down again lest my ear drums burst from firing a Zapfly or something.

Oh, but I really, really liked the bit where you steal the treasure from those people. Edge were spot on with that. :)

The dialogue sounds awful, doesn't it? I was tinkering with the surround setup for ages in the hope it'd sort it out, to no avail.

I'm not too far in - couple of hours tops - but I share your opinions really, Davros. I keep accidentally switching from 1st to 3rd person which is bad enough as it is and the game forcing it at times really doesn't help.

Still, if you really do most of the second half of the game in third person then fair play, I suppose.

It's not just me who keeps clicking the right stick down by accident then?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the firefight in the 1st town, and against Jo Momma's minions, but only when I played it as an FPS. As soon as the aforementioned issues occurred with the unwanted camera shifts, it was Tutting Time.

Too much at once again, I've let myself down and got into buying games again (for silly prices). Anyway I have had a lot of time to play lately so...

Capcom Vs Marvel2 (got a 2nd arcade stick too this week)

Soul Cal 2

Street Fighter Aniversary/SF3

Tekken 5

Gradius 5

X-men Legends

God of War

Guild Wars

WoW

Secret of Mana 2 (lunchtimes at work *hug* emu's)

Must be the first few weeks in months that the DS hasnt totally dominated my playtimes.

I'm sorta having a break from World of Warcraft which i've been playing solid since release. So i've decided to go back to Resident Evil 4.

(Rather than play all those games i've not started or started and not finished, as is always the case).

Playing it on normal again though as it had been a while since i last played, just got the to the island with about 4 deaths. Using the fully upgraded Red9, Semi-Auto Rifle and Killer7.

Well I've finished Castlevania:HOD (GBA) (sort of, I can't be arsed to find all of Drac's bits) and Tales of Symphonia (GC) at last!!

I've moved back to FFTactics on the GBA and Earthbound on the SNES.

Earthbound is odd. I've never played an rpg where one of the cowards in the party would use me as a shield. Feel a bit bad fighting with stray dogs as well.

I've been playing the Punisher on Xbox over the last few nights.

I'm really enjoying it as a silly, fun diversion. It's repetitive and a bit too easy but I haven't got tired of the 'shoot everyone in room except one, torture him, kill him, repeat' mechanic yet. There's a nice challenge in clearing the rooms stylishly too - diving in killing three guys before you hit the ground, stabbing the geezer nearest you through the eyeball and then using his mate as a human shield as you clear out the rest.

Fun fun fun!

Spent my hols in France squabbling with my fiancee over the Gameboy, as we're both hooked on Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga. Really, really enjoying it. The humour and script are top notch (love the fact that one character's speech is in japlish), the battles are fun, and the graphics and music are great.

Still dipping into GTA:SA - finally got to the third area (desert and Vegas-style place - can never remember the names). The lighting effects in the desert are just breathtaking - love the inky blue of the middle of the night, and the pinky-orange of dusk. Yum. And parachuting out of a plane for the first time was utterly fantastic.

Decided to dust off REmake too, as I never finished it, and I want to complete it prior to borrowing RE4 off a friend at work. Still enjoying it, although the general play mechanics are feeling very creaky these days. Can't wait for RE4.

I bought Midway Arcade Treasures 2 yesterday - £9.99 in HMV seemed pretty reasonable. It's going back today.

I appreciate that nostalgia is terrible for distorting memories but this takes the piss. What a joyless, soulless collection this is. I'm fairly convinced that some of the fault lies with the conversions - the controls on several games are absolutely abysmal, rendering them all but unplayable.

The 'instruction manual' could have been knocked up by a five year-old with a photocopier (an unlikely scenario, I know) - it's a fucking disgrace. And don't get me started on the 'extras' (a.k.a. piss-poor quality videos of the developers who you can't hear because the sound quality is so bad).

£9.99 for 20 games = 50p each. WAY too much.

If you're noticing those creaky old mechanics (as most people do), then RE4 should feel like a breath of fresh air. For one thing it features the antithesis of the door opening animations. You'll see what I mean.

Just heading into Mongo Valley On Stranger. Enjoyed the fights against Meagly McGraw and Packrat Palooka, although I couldn't take the latter alive. I've worked out the twist I think. At the moment my view is obscured by thousands of plants, while snipers up above whittle down my health. Am I about to come out into an area of exceptional beauty?

Donkey Kong Country 2 on the GBA.  Making steady progress through Krem Quay... I can't wait to get to the gorgeous later levels.

I wouldn't look forward to them too much because the graphics are a bit washed out on the GBA Donkey Kong games, more so in the original DKC. But I loved DKC2, I have played it for a while but it can be very hard at times with instant death making you a lot more careful when you progress through the level. I was also very impressed with the sound quality as well, by far some of the best I have heard on the GBA.

I'm splitting my time between DKC2 and Sonic Adventure 2, because I still haven't finished the latter. I left it for ages after failing the "Last" chapter repeatedly, but this morning I finished that and am now on the Biolizard. So far I've managed to place 4 hits on him before I die, so maybe with a bit of luck I can beat the bastard...

EDIT: game complete. I don't know what was harder, the final boss battles or the six initial stages I had to complete with no continues or saves, just the four lives I had and the occassional checkpoint.

And I handwrote a walkthrough to the final chapter to make replay more painless when I was dying. I should type it up and send it to gamefags. Or not.

The river section? Just beautiful. And then it gets better from there on in. Wait until you do the boat ride through the caves... :P

I've almost finished Half Life 2 for a 2nd time. Playing it with all fx on full, and I take back everything I ever said about the game. It is STONKINGLY beautiful and totally immersive. I didnt fully appreciate it on first playthrough, but the world is just so vast and deserted it creates a really spooky atmosphere.
