Unfair Loss Of Oink Account

Just tried to log into Oink to have a look at some stuff, but it's saying that my account has been disabled.

It's not as if I've been "leeching" or anything, I've only downloaded a couple of things and I've been leaving them as open torrents for others to upload. Seems that few have, so my share ratio can't be that great, but I've only been a member for a couple of weeks so I'm not particularly happy at being dumped for what seems to me like no reason.

Does anyone have an email address where I can get in contact with the Oink admins to plead my case?

Have remembered that the last thing I downloaded was a 24CD Radiohead "Towering Above The Rest" torrent, which seems to have fucked my share ratio completely. Guess I'm just unlucky....

An email address would be brilliant, or somebody who could make my case for me on the Forum there would also be good. Cheers!! I must fight for justice!

Erm, if you're having problems at Oink it's probably because you have a bad ratio. If you have a ratio below 0.5, you're almost certain to be banned. You'll also be banned if you don't login for 28 days.

Oh, and if you keep upping bad torrents - ones that are labelled incorrectly, below 192kbps you may also get banned for that. But that's your own stupid fault

Thems is the rules. Personally, I've had no problem (ratio of 1.19 and rapid approaching Power User status)

Problem is I've only been on there for just over a week, and I downloaded a fucking big torrent. So the bad share ratio really isn't my fault, it's not like I was trying to avoid sharing at all.

It seems a bit random who they get rid of and who they keep, there's a load of people who have a ratio less than 0.3 and have been there ages but haven't been banned. Seems very harsh if you've only been there a week.

Jumping on a 24 CD torrent wasn't a good idea, really.

IIRC, they only bother kicking you out based on ratio if you've downloaded more than a gig or something.

Anyway, found oinkspp ADDATSIGNHERE gmail.com on the site as a contact addy, try that. They also have an IRC channel - server irc.oink.me.uk:7000 in #oink-help

This is one of those sites with a closed membership, isn't it? Dammit, I've been looking for a good music torrent site for ages.

Same goes for UKNova. It's just like school all over again. I bet they're having cakes and ginger ale in there AS WE SPEAK.

Getting invites at Oink is insanely difficult. You get 5 invites as soon as you become a Power User (upload 10 gig and ratio above 1.05), and that's it. Hence why people are extremely relunctant to give them out.

Oh, and I'm not a power user before you ask.

Karma suggests hopping on Soul Seek so I can download the 24cd's off you would be a good idea.

I'm a Power User + with a 1.061 ratio... I really need to upload some stuff.

Oink's banning system is an automatic script as far as I know and they don't explain when it activates. I don't understand it myself as several people I've invited have poor ratios and are fine, others have been booted.

I think once you've reached 1Gb download, you automatically get banned if you're ratio is below a certain level (around 0.3 IIRC). I invited a friend who had a ratio that was below 0.1, as soon as his account reached 1gb download he got instabanned.

Fool to yourself, really. Should have read the FAQ.

When you get to a certain length of membership of certain number of megs downloaded and you don't have a decent ratio then it's an auto-ban.

Recommendation to new members: Resist the massive urge to browse the torrents as soon as you get on there. You'll be off again within the week. Instead, go through the requests section for something you can rip, rip it at as high a quality as possible and then seed it for ages, uninterupted.

After that you'll have loads of "credit" and you'll be out of the woods.

What kind of stuff is on oink?  I've seen people mention harder to find things like decent classical torrents?

It's got pretty much every type of music you can think of, there's loads of rare stuff as people try to upload things that have never been on before or fill requests. You get loads of torrents that people have put together themselves like the Top 50 Pitchfork Singles of the Year etc. The new releases seem to drop on there before other sites too.

There's currently 317 classical torrents, everything is really well seeded as users aim to keep their ratios high.
