With good reason too. But then we're both speculating about how easy it would be to have precise control over a game object while the screen viewing angle changes constantly which is a different discussion altogether. I can tell you that like any LCD screen, it's viewed best from only one angle, regardless of the backlight functionality.

I'd imagine the concept of moving mercury through a maze would require very fine control and thus slight degrees of tilting the PSP to achieve the desired result. This kind of game isn't my thing but I admire the concept, and the graphics...

That rather relies on the tilt device being able to capture degrees of movement more accurately than an analog stick, which somehow I doubt very much.

anyway, not quibbling it's not a "good thing", i'd just prefer to see this kind of functionality built into controllers for TV consoles, not handheld ones.

I usually view the PSP with it tilted slightly forward (so the top end is lower than the bottom), but that's just because it's ever so slightly better, and the light doesn't hurt my eyes as much.

If I view it at other angles, it's just fine. So I don't really so the problem that much, especially considering you'd probably move with it, to make sure you have the optimum viewing angle.

You can tilt your head too you know.

This game has always reminded me of those unfun little plastic puzzles where you have to get ball bearings into holes.

How would the tilt sensor work any way? Tilt the machine a bit to make the liquid roll (I get that bit) but what do the graphics do? If they tilt as well then aren't you getting some sort of double tilt with the screen moving? It hurts my head to thing about it.

The actual playing field wouldn't have to move at all though, as you're moving that yourself, aren't you? Just the mercury moves - perhaps the perspective of it is slightly changed, because you're looking at it slightly sideways.

Do you see?

The little nub is as imprecise a control method as I've ever used.  It doesn't have enough travel or resistance to offer accurate analogue control.  It's one part of the PSP that just doesn't work like it should.

I really can't come up with a better solution, though.  Really, it's just about the only decent way of putting analogue control onto a handheld.

Whether it works or not, it feels quite nice under the thumb (or it would if it weren't in such an awkward place).  Needs more travel and a much tighter spring.

Even better than the NGPC method; no moving parts:

I maintain that, following the DS's success, the next Nintendo handheld will use something like that for analogue. It's just a touchscreen without the screen (and some embossed bits so you can feel directions).

The plan is that the perspective switches to overhead, so it's like you're rolling around the mercury under a sheet of glass 'inside' your PSP.

I always thought that was kinda cool.

Having played Wipetout Pure a lot more over the last day, I'm getting very concerned about the nubbin. It's just SO difficult to accurately pull it left when your left thumb is at a 2 o'clock position, and bending your thumb to hold it vertically over the nub makes it hurt more. It really is in a crap position. So you end up just doing pretty much the same on/off as the D pad. Pushing right isn't so bad.

Actually perhaps with a game where you don't need to be anywhere near the L button you can have your thumb at a "closer to 12 o'clock angle"...

I shall experiment with WO Pure on single airbrake mode... stay tuned boredom fans...

Actually, I have to say that I haven't found any problems using the nubbin with WO:Pure at all - Sure, having my fingers in that position, whilst using the shoulder buttons as well can start to hurt like crazy after a while, but I've found the thing as responsive as I need it to be.

What I have had trouble with is the four standard buttons - The amount of times I'm cancelling my weapons instead of firing the damn things is silly.

The release date seems to be slipping back, ncsx have it as the 6th now, PA s the 11th and VGP as the 10th.

Just seen that. But they say the games was added Thursday the 10th of Feb .That usually means its in stock doesn't it.

Does anyone have any idea when its actually out?
