Doctor Who

Meanwhile, on Classic Who, Hartnell and co are stuck on a really fake-looking planet of really fake-looking insect people for six episodes and it's frightfully dull. We're spoiled these days.

The Web Planet?

Yeah, drags a touch (!)

Still, always worth watching the Zarbi (?) bumping into the cameras to break the boredom.

To be honest, its a very ambitious story. I think the makers even admit as much on the commentary on the DVD if i remember rightly

Watched this today, liked it a lot. Can see that the whole divorce thing would seem like it came from nowhere if you hadn't seen the Pond Life episodes, and the 'sent me a message' stuff at the beginning made more sense after watching the BBC Worldwide bit, but it's Dr Who & Daleks so I'm more than happy to let that go. The Dalek people had a nice S&M Borg feel to them and the new girl looks like she will keep the Dr on his toes (fit too!).

All in all, 4 Daleks out of 5. Bring on the Dinosaurs!!

I liked the reference to Spirodon, that was a great story about experimentation on Daleks to make them invisible but they got sick and there is a whole underground cavern of them waiting to be let loose and the Dr has to tip toe through it. I read the novel when was little and I loved imagining that scene.

The reaction the new Daleks was so negative (apparently they even slag them off on the DVD commentary) that they've decided to ignore that particular plot point.

Those particular bronze Daleks were bastard creations of Davros body parts. Presumably these new bronze Daleks are pure Kaled hate (No idea how mind you ) :)

Yeah, The Web Planet. Just finished it. Not great. I couldn't take it seriously. The costumes looked like kids' pyjamas, the set was badly shot and you could just hear the constant creaking of the stage boards and the hollow ant suits hitting things. No interesting characters outside of the main cast, since they're either mute or speak in drawn out alienese, which is just dull to watch. I did like the glow effect whenever they were on the surface, and the weird electronic noises the Zarbi made.

The robots felt very HHGTTG as did the 'wave' engine..

All the elements were thrown together but it kinda worked for me too.. was fun!

That's sort of a staple of Moffat's time on Who though. Lots of good ideas, but all thrown together in an (often) jumbled rush rather than a few fleshed out to fill an entire episode.

Speaking of dark bits, am I missing somethinh or did the Doctor kill Solomon? That's not like him!

This is what I was wondering too.

I looked it up on Radio Times and it's not them

http://www.radiotime...-on-a-spaceship

But it certainly sounds like them. Radio Times wrong/lying press releases again?

Seems the robots have 2 credits, for actors in suits and the voices.
