I liked that they showed an old battle Dalek in with all the asylum daleks. Shame they didnt expand on the Daleks inside there, they could have showed a whole range of them, but still nice. Still think the new design ones have too big bases though.

The twist was quite clever, as was the twist of Jenna turning up already! I can't wait to see how Moffat sorts that one out.

Just a guess, like...

He teams up with her in her past, they have adventures, it's all good. Season finale: does he change the course of history to save her from becoming a dalek, thereby making the daleks more powerful by giving them their predator back, or does he let her go to her fate for the good of the universe? Dilemma, dilemma, oh no wait here's a way he can save her and the universe by pressing a button.

I thought the daleks were all multi-coloured Apple stylee these days?

They were there. It wasn't stated whether the old style ones in the parliament were hybrids or pure, but seeing as they were alive I guess they're just using both designs.

Earth like characters don't have off-world abilities though and that kind of makes them a bit dull. You can relate to them emotionally but you can do that with an alien. The use of a normal earth companions has become tired. We can all imagine how wonderous it would be to travel the stars and we've seen this done plenty of times now.

But ot use someone who's already travelled leads to new and potentially exciting sub-plots.

I hope Moffat makes good use of it.

Also: human companions have for the most part been a bit rubbish haven't they? Woes and Marfa had me reaching for the sick bucket whereas Capn Jack, apart from being a but rubbish at times, at least had some energy. Chan To would have been ace.

You could still have a character from a different planet but who is excited by travel. The Doctor explaining human customs to an alien would give a script writer a good angle to use i'd have thought especially as the romance subplot doesn't really work.

Anyhow, just caught up with the ep, loved it although I thought the range of the Daleks was criminally underused. For the most part it was amaze.

I enjoyed it too. Agreed that most of the Daleks shown were pretty much the same as the typical copper blue types which was a bit dull. They also had the same weapons (although its a moot point given theres lots of asylums) and therefore same sound effects.

Would have been really cool to have the old school "steam" blasting out or a couple of other test bed laser effects.

Well, I seem to be in a minority for not liking it all that much.

Lots of it seemed rushed, under-explained or just plain nonsense. Didn't like The Dalek Parliament at all, nor the human Daleks.

I wasn't too keen on Oswin, although didn't actually realise she was the new companion, and finding that out makes the ending a lot more interesting. I hope she develops a bit more depth than Amy and isn't just a Kooky Sexy Girl TM, but it is Moffatt so I'm skeptical.

Good episode for Amy and Rory though. A few laughs too - "FOR-WARD! FOR-WARD!" (explodes)

I'll see how it stands up on a rewatch maybe. Still greatly excited to have Who back, some of the new episodes they've teased with the posters look great.

I must admit, came into this blank and I let out an audible sigh when I realized it was a Dalek episode, but it was good - did enough new things to make them interesting and there were no *incredible* leaps in logic where the Dr sucks just them up with a giant vacuum cleaner. No, I really enjoyed that episode and I much prefer the old copper Daleks than the toy colored ones.

Audible sigh? I'd have 13 dalek episodes. I hope they return this season as the main antagonist.

Well they're an awesome foe with a lot of nostalgia attached to them, but you can't honestly say they've been handled well in the recent Who until now.

Really? I can rewatch the Daleks VS Cybermen episodes in s2 again and again. The conversations between the 2 are amazing, a feast of perfect Dalek put downs.

"We would destroy the cybermen with one Dalek"...."this is not war..this is pest control."

The USA (Via Itunes and Amazon) got an Exclusive 2 min prequel to AotD!

It's actually rather good - as a license fee payer I feel rather hard done by!

At least we got Chris Chibnall. :(

Who... er... writes 2 episodes in this batch. Uh oh. This Doctor Who writing lark does seem like a bit of a boys' club at times.

With all the scope the Doctor has for choosing companions, I'm getting a bit bored with all the companions being from present-day earth. It doesn't even have to be an alien, just someone from another time period would be a refreshing change!!

It will have been paid for by BBC Worldwide if it's US exclusive rather than you to make the series more saleable, to reduce your license fee.

The slightly strange TARDIS-crash-scene-over-London at the start of last series was the same.

I could pick holes in that episode (plot contrivances, mostly), but it was too well done for me to want to. Scariest Daleks since... Dalek. Good stuff, and I will sad to see Rory go; he's the best thing in it!

Meanwhile, on Classic Who, Hartnell and co are stuck on a really fake-looking planet of really fake-looking insect people for six episodes and it's frightfully dull. We're spoiled these days.
