John Simm was amazing as The Master - at least in season 3, anyway. He was the perfect counterpart to Tennant's version of The Doctor.

exactly - it's all very cool to now completely dismiss all this stuff and the final episode featuring the Master and the amazing Skydiving Doctor really was awful. But John Simm was great as an unhinged Master.

I would've liked to have seen Derek Jacobi doing it for a bit longer though - but his transformation was great.

Not quite right. He was talking only about how the 14 episodes currently being shot would be aired and said 6 in 2012 and the other 8, of those 14, in 2013. Then:

This seems like a really low-key new companion announcement. All the others have been accompanied by a blitz of press releases and shots of them posing with The Doctor in front on the TARDIS. Even Freema Aicantbelievetheydidntdoanythingwithme got a bigger reception than this.
