Doctor Who

I think this sums up just how lazy the writing in this terrible series is.

In an earlier episode Winston Zeddemore sends a spy to investigate what's going on in Shanghai. Said spy discovers something offscreen and then kills himself. The obvious implication being that whatever it was he found was so horrible he couldn't go on living with the knowledge of it. The audience is intrigued and wants to see what the big reveal will be that would cause a man to do that.

Fast forward to this episode. Turns out there's a giant kebab meat vagina running through the planet. Really, that's your reveal? Why did he kill himself then? So RTD has a character basically go "Sometimes it randomly makes people kill themselves when they look at it lol".

It wasn't scripted or a stunt. The actor suddenly realised what he was part of.

When that lady was saying to Lauren Ambrose that "some people look at it and go mad", it reminded me of the tempered schism from Who and specifically 10's speech about how The Master came to be in 'Sound Of The Drums'.

I was properly excited, and thought it may make some sense; y'know what with Jack being infused with the heart of the TARDIS, that being linked to the schism, etc.

But.

No.

Don't worry folks, it's RTD! He's great and concluding long a teasing story arcs, remember how shit Utopia was compared to Last Of The Time Lords? And what about Doomsday!? <_<

Another problem is that the actual central premise is woefully inconsistent. In the first episode a suicide bomber blows himself up, all that's left is his charred lump of a head and few bits and bobs of his body, but he's looking around and appears to be fully aware. A woman goes into a car crusher and ditto. They even snap a woman's neck and she's walking around with her head back to front. But now we have Gwen's Dad with a dicky ticker which apparently is enough to turn him into a vegetable (and top priority of the Gestapo as well for some reason).

Torchwood:MD. A complete excerise in tedium then. The last episode actually has some nice moments (but then I'm a sucker for inncidental music), but really just rounds off a completely and utterly awful series

So the answer to the Miracle is...it just happened?

The Fams only needed the 1 vial of blood, but it needs all of Jack/Rex's blood to fix?

No one thinks to shoot Gwen? That would stop Jack.

Danes' last speech is about how he's going to follow all the "bad little girls" in killed to hell...and then "chase them" again? What the hell was the point of this character other than a pathetic attempt to be edgy?

Esther dies. Not for any real reason to do with her character, but as plot device for another character. (Woman in a Fridge anyone? Or memories of Ianto?) And then no one really cares at her funeral (seriously they all couldn't give a toss, look at them singing!)

The CIA rivals CTU for idiocy. Speaking of why to Charlotte think her best plan, when surrounded by agents with guns, was to turn and shoot one person miles away and then stand and watch him die? (Other than Rex needed to die somehow for the "moment")

I stand by my earlier claim that Rex is a "writer fav". Now he's just a special as Jack! (Even though Jack himself said there was nothing special about his blood earlier).

So the "rush" to make Ash was just...what? Corporate greed? Same with the stockpiled drugs? Glad we didn't spend WEEKS pretending it was an important plot point then

So they know DaddyCooper will die when they fix the mircale (which is their goal for the entire thing!) so why make such a big deal of "saving" him the last few weeks?

The worst thing? Even the bullshit they came up with makes no sense. Jack dies. He resurects and heals. They've hammered home the Jesus analogy enough. He doesn't just "live on" unable to die when hurt. The Blessing didn't turn anyone into anything like Jack!

I'd go on and on about what was wrong with this show, but then I'd be putting more thought in than the writers. It just utterly fails on every level. They seem to have no idea why people loved CoE, they don't even know why people kinda liked bits of S1 and S2 of Torchwood.

I just don't understand how anyone was happy to put their name to this project. (Although the lady playing Jilly gets the line of the series with her summary of Torchwood's plan)

I'm actually very tempted to look at Hexx's spoiler, but because I watch it with the gf, I best not spoil my masochistic anticipation.

Also, in episode 9, we both laughed when the video of the Chinese guy in the hospital bed was getting the Madarin translated into English. The first line was "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry" [/Tennant].

I don't know, but whichever of those three it is I predict the finale will be an image of Jacks bare arse shagging it to make it stop.

Surely if

the Blessing is a vagingo in Buenos Aires, in Shanghai it's an ass crack.

I'm really looking forward to watching episode 10, because then there won't be any more Torchwood. Possibly forever.

I think you're right. It's a shame, because Barrowman really stepped up his game quite a bit this series (ep10 especially), but I don't want any more of Torchwood.

Oh and those that hate Gwen will have a lovely moment in this episode

"That's what I did...brought back death to the world"

Not Jack? Or Rex? Or Esther? Not a we? Nope SuperGwen did it - only because she decided Jack couldn't kill himself. FUCK OFF YOU STUPID BITCH.

Well that was predictably terrible. I was going to start listing my issues with it, but almost every nonsensical development leads you to others, which lead you to even more. The whole series was complete nonsense!

The little Doctor Who references feel so out of place now too. RTD can't resist his "epic" world in peril storylines, and this one more than ever would change everything for the human race. The whole world was on the brink of collapse, and I can guarantee that Doctor Who won't even mention it. Heck, I bet everything's back to normal in the next season of Torchwood too, if that miraculously gets greenlit after this travesty.

Yeah can we have a seperate torchwood thread. This shit shouldnt infect the Dr who thread!

Somebody started one just before Miracle Day kicked off, but everyone gravitated back here. Don't worry, hopefully there won't be a season 5 to talk about. ;)

I started one but nobody used it. :(

I tell you what, I've found this series of Doctor Who somewhat disappointing. River Song is getting grating and the whole thing has felt pretty self-indulgent at times. But watching this has reminded me how bad things used to be and I guarantee that whatever we get tonight won't even approach the awfulness that was Torchwood: Miracle Day.
