Doctor Who

Thoroughly looking forward to tonights ep.... Shouldn't even have read the SFX list because I'm wondering whether anything can match up to the level of anticipation I now have for what's to come*...

But tonight is the night for some answers right? With that in mind I'm a wondering who thinks what answers we're going to get, Cluedo style.

Personally I think the baby is: The Master (out of a choice of: The Doctor, The Doctor's mum, River, Amy herself, Omega, anyone else?)

and River is also the Master but a future iteration, one where she's renounced violence and shacked up with the Doctor. Although that's a bit of an RTD, but would at least be more interesting than her being just a future wife...

Admittedly I don't think these are both likely but tbh I think Moffat's still trying to redeem the issues/idiocies of the Davies reign of terror and that's the one character he hasn't got to yet.

Well, him and the farting dustbin. And the farting aliens.

Also: the Radio Times has the infant all but holding a sword, seemingly in charge of the headless monks. So why not Omega? Just because I think he's going to go with someone who the new series watching public would know rather than reintroduce a character who requires a certain amount of prior knowledge to get the best of.

I do like the blue guy, he acts well and has good lines for others to come back and repeat after a shows finished. If it were still Russel's time I'd worry that he'd be killed off nonsensically while spouting a line which was a: not very good, b: supposed to be foreboding and c: something the Radio Times had spoiled before the series had even started. I hope he stays on in some way, popping up every so often when a strange artifact were needed.

*although as ever I do agree with Lord Cookie (as required by law) in that the series has been underwhelming in unexpected ways. RTD, for all his many and repeated faults, knew how to stick to one message and stay there (for a whole series if necessary). By contrast Moffat wants to do everything and go everywhere and forgets to slow down. By rights this should have been the best start to a series ever - the direction is amazing, the music works well in context (mostly), the acting is very good (once they'd calmed Smith down to where he was last series) and the overarching story is good. But you can't have a story unresolved in one series (Silence Will Fall) and not really hinted at by the near close of the second series (yes, I know, but most viewers will see this as a series, not a half one). Too many 'whys', for better or worse... And too few joyously smily episodes like Prisoner 0. Sometimes it just needs to have a moment of tranquility.

That said I've not disliked an episode of the Moffat run per se. Vampires in Venice was by the numbers, the iDaleks could have been better but I didn't hate it... I enjoyed the Flesh two parter more than the Silurian one but liked the Silurians a lot. It's just all slightly less accessible than Davies run which, I think, takes away from the mainstream appeal of the current series, which in turn seems to have harmed viewing figures or certainly the Monday morning 'did you see Dr Who' conversations....

But tonight should make it all better I hope....

Actually I agree with Cookie except for this bit.

Rory is pretty much wasted and his relationship with Amy isn't going anywhere new or interesting either.

His question about the bunk beds was perfectly timed and comedy gold. For that reason alone he's in the top ten assistants ever.

What about

The Rani?

I am super-psyched for tonight's episode, and blissfully ignoring the fact that there won't be more Who for months. D'oh!

Chaps, why are you spoilering speculation based on nothing more than your own haphazard guesses? It's like me wrapping up "what if an army of T-Rex warriors from 2918 show up, led by the Black Guardian, who is trying to bust Omega out of the anti-universe with the help of the Ark of the Covenant and the chattering skull of Margaret Thatcher" in spoiler tags, ie stuff that "might" happen but most likely won't.

If you read in the Radio Times that Davros is going to show up with the Rani draped suggestively over his console, fair enough but if we're just talking about your own fevered imaginations, don't use the tags please.

Merci beaucoup.

Reminds me of the first season of the new series when every guest star was assumed to be The Master or someone of equal importance.

"Simon Pegg's in the next episode..."

"Clearly he's The Master!"

Simon Pegg turns out not to be The Master.

"IMDB says Anne Robonson is in the the finale..."

"Clearly she's the Rani!"

A fan made Doctor Who anime. He says it's supposed to be like an extended trailer rather than a proper full story with a complete plot. I quite like the 80's/90's animation style too.

Oh for Heaven sake girl, go and put something warm on

The best idea in that is The Master teaming up with himself. Oh, and his vending machine TARDIS.
