Another tidbit: RTD planned to make Mickey bisexual at the end of the crappy Cybermen two-parter, in fact I think they even filmed the scene between him and the Geordie, but it got cut.

And then in the last episode he's married to Martha out of nowhere and you can virtually hear the writer going "And, um, I guess these two hooked up or something because I couldn't think of anything else for them... nevermind that though let's have Rose's 983691675451th big emotional send off, this is the last one honest!" Poor Mickey.

The shame is that Noel Clarke has proven himself man times over to be a talented actor - but they just didn't know what to do with him. Martha was terrible as well, but the bonus for her is that she featured in the strongest series before Moffat took over. Series 4 was the low point for me.

I agree with a lot of the 'meh' about this series. It seems to me that it's being written to be watched as a box set, so that the episodes can develop all of the arc ideas, but is obviously being broadcast in two halves, which goes against this.

it'll allow them to sell THREE box sets

season 5 part 1

season 5 part 2

and then a little later

season 5 complete

"now includes xmas special!!!"

ps. each time I typed "season" I actually typed "sean" and then had to corrected, except that last time.

Someone's picked out a logo seen in the trailer, and it's come up before! Back in Series 5!

River works for them? (Or will in the future? Weeping Angels two parter is further ahead in her timeline right?)

Are they the church!?!?

:omg: :OMG:

I surprised noone's picked up on this a bit more.

Wasn't/Isn't Omega one of the big bad's from Gallifrey's past? The Three Doctors and a Davidson serial I think..

Omega was one of the 3 engineers who created time travel and the start of the Timelords. Unfortunately, what he did resulted in him getting trapped in an anti-matter universe, which pissed him off a tad and sent him a bit bonkers too!

The thing about the staircase is that it led up to a floor that didn't exist. The house was clearly two floors from outside. Probably reading too much into it though.

Maybe it just goes to the attic. I have seen attics with proper stairs going to them rather than the usual ladder type arrangement.

I think there's a few things about that last two-parter that are so glaring that either they still have some significance or they were part of something that got cut - I'm talking about 'good parker' Doctor in part 1 and eyeballs in part 2.

Anyone see the Metro today? There was a full-page article (a nice space waster) with one of the promo pics for Victory of the Daleks with Stephen Moffat saying we won't be seeing the Daleks for a while, since as the Doctor's most commonly returning foe they're also the most-defeated. I think it's brave but sensible to stick them in a cupboard for a year or two. If the show's to have a long-term future they'll need a stock of memorable new enemies rather than reusing old ones.

They shouldn't be brought back until someone comes up with a really good story which utilises them. VOTD was pretty awful, and the RTD efforts rather overblown. By far the best Dalek episode in New Who was "Dalek", when there was only a single one of the metal monstrosities. It was well shot, had a jolly good script and a couple of rather awesome Ecclestone scenes.

yeap - the swarming armies of the things so easily defeated have kind of done away with all the good work that Dalek did. A single one of these things should be able to take out an entire tooled up military base. ..

... but then Rose appears for some reason with a stupid oversized gun and new alternate reality teeth and blows it away easily...

Here's something I thought was weird - what the hell was all that acid doing there, and why was it needed on the mainland?

Sulphuric acid is part a variety of reactions used in chemical engineering. Presumably this acid would also have a variety of uses

Acid is also used for the scarring of district attorneys with the intention of turning them into deranged supervillains driven by the concept of duality.

Superb monster this week. The effects and sets on this series have been awesome.

Watching confidential it seems that Rory is a right miserable fucker in real life. If I were getting paid to occasionally get to kiss Karen Gillan, I'd have the biggest grin you'd ever see. Even in my sleep.

Maybe he's morose because every time he's interviewed on Confidential, he's just read yet another Who script in which there isn't a Rory/Amy sex scene. "One daaaaaaay..."

SFX have just done a spoiler free preview of the next episode which I shall put in spoiler tags anyway :)

1 It is amazing – a true five-star episode

2 There are lots of spaceships – and that’s just in the teaser

3 There is a very Star Wars feel (The Empire Strikes Back especially) even down to the shape of the windows and the music

4 It’s action-packed and feels so much more epic than a usual single parter

5 There are lots of suprise guests stars (and some will be a surprise) but unlike in “The Pandorica Opens” none of them feels wasted – they all have a chance to shine…

6 …Apart from one maybe

7 It cracks along at a hell of a pace

8 There are some revelations that really will make your jaw drop

9 There is a terrific battle scene at the end (which more than makes up for a slightly underwhelming and confusingly directed one in the first half)

10 Although there’s lots of time travelling, it’s not a timey-whimey-reliant plot.

11 The Doctor produces something very revealing from the TARDIS

12 Rory says something very funny to an old enemy that you can’t believe has never been said before

13 It’s a great episode for both Rory and Amy (and Matt Smith is as brilliant as ever, especially in a sudden, unexpected emotional moment)

14 A throwaway line from last season becomes a major plot device

15 Somebody is asked to make a donation

16 Somebody very unexpected is playing doctors and nurses

17 We get to see somebody’s muff

18 Rory is definitely cool

19 Look carefully at the monitor screens…

20 …And the corridors

21 And please, please, please, if anyone has leaked the title for the next episode onto the internet, avoid the temptation to check it out. When the caption comes up at the end, “The Doctor Will Be Back In…” it was so unexpected and made us grin so much, we’d hate you to miss having the same experience…

For those that want the spoiler SFX mentioned (which is the title to Episode 8 )

Doctor Who will return in the Autumn with Let’s Kill Hitler

(That's the real interweb gossip btw - not a joke!)

What I find so confusing about any episode where they meet up with River is that, usually, you expect recurring characters to have gone through things together - they have that history. But usually each time River appears it's from an earlier point in her timeline, so you can never tell how well she knows Amy or Rory, what she's done with them, etc. It's almost like we're meeting a different character each time.
