Best Theory I've seen on the Interweb -

The TARDIS dies, and Donna (who's been noted as very special, has been dosed with Huon energy) turns out to be a new one growing...

That would of course mirror one of the best threads of the books, although Compassion is a bit cooler than Donna. I hate the idea of the TARDIS dying again though, unless they pretty much follow the arc of the books again.

That was insanely entertaining. We had to watch it on a crappy hotel portable so I'm looking forward to watching it again today.

I wasn't mad keen on the boosting the phone signal stuff but everything else was ace. Obviously there won't be a new Doctor but what a great cliffhanger.

Going back to the 'Turn Left' episode why hasn't it been an issue that the only way to save the world was for parallel Donna to deliberately walk out in front of a truck. Surely there must be some morally outraged road safety campaigners out there.

What's suicide got to do with road safety campaigns? "Don't kill yourself or you might die"?

Having been in France all week, I've finally caught up with everything. Bloody hell! :(

Turn Left was decent, but The Stolen Earth was just brilliant. Kudos to the BBC for not spoiling everything in advance for a change, and the complete lack of a "next time" trailer was a nice touch. Obviously that's changed now, but even the new trailer doesn't give anything away. My only minor complaint is that I was expecting to see an old style "quiet" regeneration effect, but it's probably best to stick with the new style for the sake of new viewers.

Harriot Harman, Former Prime Minister was great. Especially her brief dialogue with the Daleks. Davros was perfect, and the fate of Dalek Kahn was well thought out. What's more, he's proven that the Time War is not quite so impervious to change.

Argh. Roll on next week!

Just watched it.

Alas, one to file under the "hated it" pile for me. I just don't understand why they try so hard to be so grand in scale when the series' strengths lie in more intimate crises.

Am I supposed to know who all these people are? Or is it a given that if you're watching Dr Who you must also have watched and followed Torchwood and SJA (of which I have not seen one episode)? It was too much all at once, a pointless barrage of past characters, spin-off characters, ex-characters, new characters, all of which made it feel like a case of trying to throw everything into the mix in the hope it would all work. Which it totally didn't. All that stuff with the mobile phones was horribly redolent of the "Get everyone to think of The Doctor at once" thing in the last series, and was completely unbelievable.

Davros, thankfully, was great. The Daleks were just as they always are. But I'm coming to dread these blockbuster finales, they just seem so...overwraught.

I'm inclined to agree, especially on the grand scale point. I like the stories set far away that are tight. Plus, the Daleks have been massively over-used in New Who to the point where I almost sighed when they re-appeared...again.

Davros was excellent, mind, but I'd like to have seen him maybe pop up on a planet years and miles away from Earth hatching a plot, or something.

The Dalek's obsession with 21st century Earth is getting a bit dull.

That said, Dalek Caan was fantastic.

Surely it doesn't really matter? Most Doctor Who watchers would have been familliar with Harriot Jones (yes, it was a slip :( ), Sarah Jane Smith, Captain Jack, Martha and Rose, the last two with the help of a couple of refreshers earlier in the series just in case. After those, the rest of the spin-off characters (all three of them) were pretty incidental. Do you have a problem with all the other new characters we see every week too?

It was certainly the best "world in peril" story we've seen so far, and if anything the spin-off characters helped add to the scale without the need for loads of new sets. It was great to finally see the Shadow Proclamaition too, and the Medusa Cascade. :P

Apart from Davros and the cliffhanger, I completely agree that it was kinda rubbish.

It baffles me why the majority of this episode consisted of people standing around talking on webcams/phones, exchanging cheerful dialogue whilst the world was ending outside? It was completely unnecessary, and the call to the Doctor was cringe-worthy.

Edit: Best world in peril episode so far? This is nowhere near as good as the Master last series.

I just thought it was bilge, sorry. And I mean that, I am always sorry when I don't like an episode of Dr Who. Surprised so many of you enjoyed it though, I've only just read the thread and I was expecting universal loathing.

It struck me as being like a lot of American shows, the popularity of which has always baffled me.

Davros was ace though, absolutely perfect. Loved the gory chest reveal as well.

And the back of his head was missing. "Fascinating" - cheeky writing, the voice was perfect.

my problem with the phone was that it was thematically similar to everyone praying for the doctor at the end of the last season with the master and shit...
