hmm so he jumped back accidentally to the Time War and saved Davros?

I didn't quite catch what Davros said, but it sounded like he'd made thousands of jumps looking for Davros and that's what had sent him mental.

And it seems like caan already has knowledge of what's going to happen so yeah that sounds right.

I'm starting to think the Doctor's a bit stupid. You're dealing with a unknown and vastily superior technological based enemy...

Then TAKE the entire universes fleet to battle with you!

He probably didn't want to because the last time he was in an intergalactic war he got everyone killed, including everyone on his side.

Just read the previous, some wise type mentioned the hand having a role to play, and I certainly noticed a lingering shot of it early in the episode, or was it just me?

And the doctor won't take the battle fleet, he's a pacifist!

Worked late, so didn't see it live. I wasn't a viewer of the old show, so didn't know an awful lot about Davros other than who he is. He seemed great in this. And I couldn't believe the ending. Like others here, I am not expecting Tennant to be fully replaced. Maybe the split/two doctors theory posted or something inexplicable the writers come up with to make him regenerate as Tennant again, but I don't believe Tennant will be gone. Still, it's something of an achievement to even keep that ending a secret.

Exactly what I figured. There has a look of horror on his face when it was suggested that he'd lead an army to war.

Tracer sort of rasies a good point. Considering all the callbacks, continuity etc...

How/Will the masters ring come into it?

See, the noise when Harriot Jones got in touch with the gang through her PC was the Master's drum noise, I thought. "Da-da-da-da."

Anyway.

Bloody amazing.

What really impressed me was the way that all the Torchwood pieces felt very Torchwood, the SJA parts felt very SJA, yet they all fitted in with Doc Who. That was my worry actually, but there was no need on reflection.

Also, I had a genuine mouth-open moment when Tennant got hit - first since the Daleks appeared at the end of Army of Ghosts. Even if he doesn't regenerate next week, that whole ending was amazing.

OK, I watched Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways again last night and I'll concede that POTW is mostly pretty good. However, Bad Wolf is pretty grim in places, and the Weakest Link contestant character is shit. And the thing I disliked most about POTW is still there - the reset button where Rose just appears and makes the daleks all disappear. All the drama and the build-up, the Doctor's agonising choice, his eventual decision not to kill everyone just to get rid of the daleks, it all counts for nothing because Rose sweeps in and makes it all ok again with a snap of her fingers, just like the Peter Pan ending of Last of the Time Lords. There's no foreshadowing of the fact that the Tardis/time vortex can do that. The only reason she sucked up the orange light was because she wanted to get back and try to help out. Right up until the "I can see everything and I undo you" there was real tension, and then there was just this deflated "oh, is that it" feeling.

God, I really couldn't disagree more.

I love that ending. Rose coming out of the TARDIS bathed in white light is one of the show's most iconic moments ever.

Question: Who tried to move the earth before, a long time ago? (I'm assuming Daleks?)

Yep, back in The Dalek Invasion Of Earth they were going to extract the Earth's core, install an engine and fly it around the universe.

Which after tonight seems like a slightly less stupid plan than it did in 1964.

The Daleks, in "The Dalek Invasion of Earth" with William Hartnell in 1964. Crazy story about them replacing the magnetic core of the earth with a piloting device so it can be used as a giant space craft.

But also in "The Trial of a Timelord" we learn that in the far future the Earth actually is moved by the Timelords and renamed, for a very convoluted reason.

Also, I'm going to watch all of Logopolis tomorrow. My first full experience of old Dr Who.

That's a pretty terrible one to start with. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The regeneration scene is awesome though, and if you follow it up with Castrovalva, it's worth it.

You should start with The Keeper of Traken though - the three stories are linked.

Definitely watch The Keep of Traken before Logopolis, which really isn't a good place to start it's a very downbeat story.
