Doctor Who

But they like Donna, and they enjoyed seeing all those events they recognised from other episodes as they would have happened without the Doctor. They got the "what if" bit, they just didn't know why it was happening, and I don't think they followed the logic of alterna-Donna sacrificing herself to change things back. But it's quite normal for kids to enjoy things on their own level without appreciating the full meaning. Either that or they really are a bit dim.

Coronation Street? Not while they're living under my roof!

Having a few minutes spare in class yesterday (all my lot are 8-9 years old) I thought I'd fire up the trailer for next week's episode on the whiteboard, and they're all very excited. I spoke to them about Turn Left, and though a few of them needed some bits explaining - as it was a pretty weird episode in truth - they all said they loved it. One even said that the fortune teller had been in it before which met howls of derision... until we pulled up the cast list for the episode on Saturday in one window and Utopia in another. Cue geek points aplenty!

They got the "what if" bit

Oh, well, that's not so bad. I thought you meant they hadn't got any of it.

My other half, who watches Who every week with me and enjoys it despite not being a sci-fi fan, found it a bit baffling but that's mostly because she couldn't remember what episodes everything came from. She was more distracted by Rose's lisp, then the appearance of Gwyneth from series 1 in a flashback ("that's her! the rubbish one from Torchwood! you know the one!" yes, yes I do, now please be quiet). At the end I had to talk her through the whole significance of Bad Wolf, which she'd watched at the time but totally forgotten about, and it's harder to explain than you might think it is.

She's going to hate it next week. She always dislikes it when iconic baddies come back from the original series because I sit there chuckling like a loon and she just assumes she's missing the point of everything. Given that it features the cast of Sarah Jane Adventures (which she's never seen) and Torchwood (which she doesn't like) as well as tying into events that she's forgotten about completely, I'm expecting her to ask questions all the way through it. Mind you, she did this in the Library episodes where she was absolutely convinced that River Song must be a character from the old series that everyone knew about already and refused to take it all at face value. Nothing I could say would convince her to just sit and watch it for what it was.

they like Donna

Not dim, maybe, but terrible taste.

I've not heard that one anywhere. Don't think there's any truth in that. It's back for a run twice as long as last time.

Crossed wires here, maybe. The guy who plays Maria's dad has said that he's only back for a couple of episodes in the new series and there's a new asian girl been cast and showing up in the behind the scenes photos, so it looks like Maria will be leaving in an early story to be replaced with a new family. Clyde and Dobbin the Space Boy are still in it though.

Not gonna miss Maria, especially when you hear, how stuck up her own ass the little madam is. Friends house was used for filming in S1 and Maria apparently was a right little cow. Clyde is cool though, if not the worlds youngest looking 20 year old.

So that might be why Maria isn't in the trailer for the final 2 episodes, while Space Boy is.

Though I didn't see the kitchen sink either.

When alternative-Donna sacrificed herself in the alternate universe, how come the 'real' Donna with the Doctor had vague memories of what went on? I thought that if alternative-Donna had been successful everything would've un-winded with the end result being nothing ever really happened (And Alternative-Donna therefore never existed).

'tis only a minor quibble. I did find the whole episode a bit lacking overall, though I can appreciate the concept.

edit: Nevermind, it's that timey-wimey stuff isn't it?

Eh?. Donna (universe 1) had a vision of the alternative world (call it universe 2) where she turned left. And because she was

receiving a vision of the alternative universe 2

taken back to the past by (universe 4) Rose to universe 3 where donna hadn't made the turn yet

universe2 donna died in universe 3 to make donna turn right, thus restoring the timeline, while being experienced by universe 1 donna in the form of the vision.

Or something. amirite?

I love posts like this, and the way in which they make perfect sense.

Clyde is fit as fuck.

Love the Davros voice on the new trailer shown on the web/tv.

Sounds old and new all at once. Which is nice. Would have been meh if it was exactly the same as say, Genesis.

Friend mistook him for Darth Sidious though

we got a bit confused by something on our second watch... so, Donna met the Dr during the aracnos thing. If Donna didn't start her job - she wouldn've have met that bloke and therefore wouldn't have been abducted and found her way onto the tardis... but someone else would've.

Well having never met Donna, the Doctor died while fighting the Aracnos (as she wasn't there to stop him going mental), so no one else would've found their way onto the Tardis.

The Sarah Jane and Torchwood crews did their best to contend with things in the Doctor's absence, but all died (well, Captain Jack was taken back to the Sontaran home world).

Mostly likely wrong

The evil black man HR man at the firm (who was working for the Racnoss) most likely gave someone else the water dosed with Huon energy.

That was the entire Racnoss plan (to use the energy to birth their children at the centre of the earth). They needed to have that set up to make it worth coming to earth (otherwise what's the point?)

So mostly likely the other person dosed with Huon energy got sent to the TARDIS as the event of Doomsday, setting up the Doctor meeting the Racnoss.

(I think )

AND DONNA'S AWESOME

But even if that all happened, Rose said it was Donna who stopped the Doctor from going too far. If he'd saved another Huon-filled person, they might've just run off, leaving the Doctor on his own. Therefore someone might've been on the Tardis instead of Donna, in the process of being saved, but no one like Donna

Hasn't the idea of an alien feeding off of 'potential energy' been done before? Possibly on Who, but I may be thinking of something else. It seems a somewhat familiar concept.

A great one, though. I thoroughly enjoyed that.

How did all the bad wolf stuff suddenly appear everywhere?
