Doctor Who

So he did it on the off-chance they bumped into each other? And he knew the Doctor would be told he wasn't alone by the face of Boe? Hmm.

Is the possibility of The Doctor and The Master meeting really an off-chance? More like an inevitability.

I'll give that eight and a half out of ten. Next week's looks brill.

Oh, and can everyone lay off Love and Monsters please? It's without a doubt one of the warmest, most imaginative and brilliantly written episodes since the series returned to telly.

He skull-fucks a paving slab? :)

Also did anyone else notice the Dalek theme playing when the Italian family were being taken away in the trucks? Nice touch there.

That's a very nice touch, and underplayed. I am even more impressed than I was!

I'm not sure I'd call Love and Monsters "warm", but I do agree that it's very good, and sets out in what it wants to do very well. There are ways of reading it that are really quite brutal, depending on what you use to represent obsession.

What the fuck is wrong with Billie Piper's mouth? She sounds like she's lisping or something.

We had friends around tonight, and at almost every appearance of Rose everyone was guessing what was wrong with her face, especially her mouth. We had it marked down to either:

1. Bad face lift

2. False Teeth

3. Billie Piper is slowly turning into a beaver.

4. Dodgy Botox

5. She'd been getting a mouthful of the doctor before each take and had gone a bit numb.

Or maybe Marc Warren visited the set and mistook her for a paving slab.

I enjoyed tonights episode very much, even though it didn't seem to make much sense after a bit of thought.

Next weeks episode looks like it could be the smuggest piece of TV ever broadcast what with the return of Rose and all the Torchwood numpties. Hopefully it will end in a big explosion.

Quite enjoyed that - some great acting from Tate and good ol' Bernard Cribbins (the bit where he mentions "It's happening again" was pretty heart-rending). RTD mentioned it was "the cheap episode" and although this sadly became apparent with the beetle, the storyline made up for it. It was definitely an interesting road to travel down and I'm glad we had the opportunity to see what would have happened if Donna had never met the doctor. The ending was superb too.

Oh god, the trailer for next week's show is glorious.

Since RTD is handing over the reins to Moffat I think it's pretty understandable that he's typing up the loose ends of the 4 years he's been in charge and setting things up for a single story strand (Time War?) for the 3 specials next year to go out with a bang. Personally I see both Tennant and Tate quitting and leaving a blank canvas for Moffat to take the show in more of high concept sci-fi direction.

I liked the shit beetle. I've managed to convince myself it was a deliberate nod to long standing fans of the original series who grew to love its dreadful special effects.

The beetle would actually have been far more effective if it hadn't moved at all.

Probably mentioned before on this thread but in Confidential, they compared the beetle to the spider clinging on the back of Sarah Jane in an old Pertwee episode.

Well that's what I thought it was going to be originally, a nice little homage to Planet of the Spiders. As it stands it was just naff.

Well, like almost all episodes this season, Turn Left gets even better on a second viewing.

There are a few annoying things - the Christmas star is quite poorly used in the new shots, and the news story about the Adipose in the States clearly shows footage from London from Partners in Crime. Bit cheap that, and dents the believability of this parallel world.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, didn't the Adipose only kill people if someone messed with the process? Why did sixty million Americans die?

That aside, it's brilliantly paced and superbly acted. There's a real warmth from Rose for Donna, who just seems utterly helpless when confronted with it all.

As good as the last three weeks, I think.

Poor. Very poor. Why 1 episode of Davros and not 3? Who gives a flying fuck about donna noble? Considering the extent of the licence fee, this is absolutely attrocious. Russell T Davies and his so-called contribution to sci-fi will be long forgotten.

Tate's performance when she realises she's going to die is amazing, actually. Amazing amazing.

When she's not hamming it up and acting like her tourettes Gran character she's great, and has the added bonus of a fantastic pair of tits.

Unfortunately she seems incapable of acting normally, she seems to think shouting like a 5 year old equates to good acting. Still better than Martha Jones though, but so far I've preferred Billy Piper as an assistant. As good as Tate was in the scene where she realised she was going to die, it was nothing compared to Piper in that final scene in Doomsday.

Really enjoyed that. Like many people, though, I can only wonder what the hell has happened to Billie Piper's face. And her voice. Why does she now have a lisp? Mind you, I went back and rewatched Bad Wolf from series 1 after seeing yesterday's episode and whatever has happened to Billie Piper is nothing compared to what's happened to John Barrowman!

Next week's episode looks absolutely ridiculous. :) I'm actually a bit concerned that there will be too much stuffed into it to do any of it justice. It'll be one of those ensemble shows where everyone has a couple of lines and rushes around a lot; whereas you could make a whole show out of Rose being reunited with the Doctor OR Rose meeting Martha OR whatever happens to Donna OR the reintroduction of a legendary villain OR the introduction of the Torchwood team OR any number of other things that are all going to have to share screen time now. It'll either be a legendary episode or a complete farce, but either way I can't wait.

The plan was always to turn the whole world into a breeding ground for them. The doctor and Donna stopped this from fully happening.

Only in the alternate timeline, they obviously didn't.

Two episodes and it looks like the second one will be a full 60 minutes.
