Doctor Who

I didn't really like that. It seemed a bit of a nothing episode - Donna changes her mind, then she changes her mind again: The end.

This one wasn't about plot development or saving the world (although it was, in a way) - it was about showing what would happen if the Doctor wasn't around.

Answer: bad shit going down.

I liked it for that.

Didn't you watch season 1?

I just realised I have not seen the last episode of S1 while watching Confidential too, when they go on about Rose becoming Bad Wolf or something. Just finished downloading now.

A few here and there, but hated the episodes that I saw (burping wheelie bins, Big Brother, death game show yadda, yadda, yadda), and Eccleston did nothing for me as the Doctor.

Tennent though - very watchable. Certainly more like the Doctors I grew up with (tapping into the whole British eccentric thing), and could even be edging old Tom Baker out of my 'favourite doctor' top spot. More than that though - the scripts seem better than the ones I've seen from series one.

Yeah, but we've been told loads of times that the world needs the Doctor - in fact we were told it two episodes ago. Showing it seems rather pointless.

There's got to be more to this. In Pompeii the guy said Donna had something on her back, but she didn't then. Unless this entire series has been another parallel world, or some shit.

I took that more as a prophecy, foreshadowing tonight's ep, rather than a reference to something that was there at that very moment.

I watch the show for entertainment. Seeing what happened without the Doctor entertained me a lot. Not pointless then.

Oh, also - surely the whole 'Donna is special' message, and the Doctor's musings at the end are pointing to something yes?

Yes. This show ain't over yet. No point people complaining about things not being resolved when theres two more episodes left.

Edit: Why did we keep seeing Rose throughout this series? Was it all leading up to this episode? If so, why was she so keen to speak to the Doctor?

Every series has had a theme/message running through it building up the finale.

It also undid all the good work the Moffet two-parter did as to Donna's character. Her yelling all the time and calling the Italian bloke Mussolini really didn't endear her to me.

But that's the point. That's what Donna was like before she met the Doctor - all diets, Big Brother and Heat magazine.

She grows into the Donna we see in Moffat's two parter because the Doc brings it out of her.

Goodness, they show one ep and don't explain everything and it's pistols at dawn for Dr Who. You cats would last 10 minutes with Lost, there's still stuff they have explained that happened 4 years ago :)

I stopped watching 4 years ago :)

So...wathcing the trailer on the web:

Jack, Ianto, Gwen, Sarah Jane, SJA Kid, Rose, Martha, Doctor, Donna, Harriet Jones, Judoon, Daleks, Donna's Mom, Gramps + Mickey and Jackie in promo shots...

Phew.

Enjoyed the ep, wondered whether BP had had a teeth transplant with Freddy Mercury.

The end was pretty dark in ways though, I sussed what would happen in time to tell my daughter to close her eyes for a few seconds... Looking forward to the next two eps though. There are a lot of recurring things coming into the next two, so much so that I wonder if the

dissapearing bees

may get left into the Christmas ep?

And anyone still on Tate's back surely must be reevaluating that musn't they? She's in a different league to Piper and Agyeman so much it's not even a race anymore... Bearing in mind all the hints are that

she's going to be gone at the end it's going to be sadder to see her go than it would be Tennant. I'd love to see the two of them going into a Moffat series, hope that the prophecy crap is better than the RTD endings have generally managed so far...

Good ep though. This has been a pretty strong series bar the occasional lazy choice and decision here and there.

That was astoundingly brilliant. I'm stunned and amazed.

EDIT: Stunned because I read a preview that said it was awful, so had very low expectations. In the event I'm having difficulty finding words to say just how good I thought this was.

Rose is in one universe, the doctor in another.

the daleks were in the void between universes, remember.

Rose can jump universes. That's how she's been showing up in earlier episodes. Probably something to do with the end of season 1 and the end of season 2 (you know what I mean :) ) and each time she's tried to warn him she's just missed him, or he's not noticed (on the monitor for example).

The beetle created a new universe JUST for donna.

Rose jumped into Donnas new universe, fixed that, AND delivered the message for the doctor.

What's so hard to understand?

Mind you, what do the daleks call the doctor?

Without wanting to sound like a moaning Minnie, why did they bring back the actress from the end of the last series? It was really distracting; I kept waiting to see if it had any meaning to it, if she'd come back in some way to have revenge against the Doctor for taking Yana from her. They've re-used actors a few times, right? Aren't there many actors who'll work in Cardiff or something?

EDIT

I never did understand why the Master would name himself You Are Not Alone. Was there ever any explanation for it?
