John Simm, David Tennant conjecture -

Just read someone on NTSC mentioning that they'd heard an actor was offered the part of the master but turned it down cos they thought the Doctor might be available. It wouldn't happen, couldn't happen, and it would be outrageous - but amazing - if the doctor wound up taking the master's body at the end of the series, leaving us with Simm as the Doctor and Tennant free to pursue other acting jobs. I'm a fan of the later, but I'm getting a strong feeling he'd like to move on after two runs...

They have been largely bad, that's the problem.

I think "bad" is a little strong. They have all been largely watchable. I do so hate the psychobabble though. The best episodes have it absent or brush over it.

Besides, what the hell are you talking about 'overrated'? You're one person, as am I. One opinion each. Overrated is a lazy stupid criticism.

I never claimed to represent anything other than my own opinion, I'm just talking about the habit of people turning up here after every episode stating how brilliantly amazing that last ep was and better than x,y,z. Perhaps it's the concentration fo fans that does it. There is a lack of perspective.

John Simm is going to be excellent... the guy on the right bears more than a slight resemblance to Gordon Brown.

There were so many ace images in that trailer yesterday - what was the Doctor looking at in space?

Why the hell is the Doctor interfering with human affairs? Unless he knew there was an alien influence, of course. But i don't think he did.

Also, i've noticed a disturbing lack of any sort of law enforcement in any Dr Who episodes. Like, where the hell are the police and the army?

I still loved yesterdays episode though

He has a soft spot for humanity and wants to protect it...

UNIT and Torchwood were probably about someplace...

I strongly suggest that anyone who has an interest in Torchwood checks ou the deleted scenes on Youtube (from the DVD). They cover alot annoying holes in the episodes.

It's rather grating that some of these were cut but cardif-porn was kept in.

Just seen the repeat. Easily the best story so far this season. Flawless performance from Tennant this time, only surpassed by Gatiss, who was just pitch perfect.

In fact I am struggling to think what a Dr Who fan could see wrong with the episode. Brilliantly paced, intelligent dialogue, some proper old school Who horror, good jokes, the lot. I would have preferred a less obviously CGI monster, but I seem to be going counter to the opinion of the entire world on that subject, so I'd better get used to it. But that was about it, everything else I loved.

Oh, and I'm convinced now - Martha and her family > Rose and her family. The stuff they're setting up with Martha's mum and Saxon is intriguing and exciting.

One thing that I did wonder about last night was the way he and Martha travelled through time and came back just 1 night later in Marthas life. Why didnt he do the same with Rose? Instead of giving us all that guff with her family and Mickey.

What's almost worse is people who seemingly cannot cope with the fact that now it's back it shot it's load fairly quickly and is now a horrible cheap parody of those self same US shows that get so much unnecessary praise.

Oh, and careful with this sort of stuff mate. Slag off the show by all means, but I'm genuinely enjoying it. Please don't try to imply that those of us who are must be blindly insisting it's great, despite some seemingly evident truth to the contrary.

The first time he tried to return he messed up the date (by two years). From then on the damage had been done, I suppose.

Seems a bit convienient that he can do it first time for Martha. Unless he was lusting after Rose from the start. Dirty old man.

But it's OK for you and others to make unsubtle digs like 'I'm struggling to see what a Dr Who fan could find wrong with it' or flat out 'why don't you stop watching it' :P If I'm going to be patronised or just plain abused for giving my thoughts on the show then I really don't give a toss that those dishing it out can't take it.

I agree with all of this. I wasn't expecting anything more from this episode than a simple monster runaround, but it was the best yet of a stonkingly good series, with great performances all round. And I'm a complete sucker for the series-long story arcs.

I have to confess I haven't ever seen Mark Gattiss in anything before and didn't even know what he looked like. So I don't know if it's deliberate or accidental that Lazarus reminded me strongly of Richard Dawkins in the way he looked and acted. But for me that certainly added to it.

Jesus christ. Buy the League of Gentlemen, now.

I saw ten minutes of it once. It was a load of men doing silly voices and I think there was a cow involved. It didn't make me laugh, so I turned it off.

I didn't get it at first either. Best British comedy of the last 20 years IMO.

Also, can somebody tell me this:

If John Simm is Master No. Six, who were the five who preceded him? According to the Wikipedia list, there have been seven; if you count Derek Jacobi, then it's eight. Which ones get left out to make John Simm the sixth?

Some of the actors played the same 'incarnation' as their predecessor

Gatiss was amazing, actually. A genuinely brilliant performance. I hated The League of Gentlemen, so I haven't seen much of the guy - thought he really nailed it, though.

The Tardis usually ends up where its supposed to. It's only from time to time that it veers a little off course by a year or five.
