Doctor Who

It directly followed The Curse of Fenric though, and that was ace. :(

Watching that and the documentaries on the DVD, you come to the conclusion that Doctor Who did need a break. I think the people involved were out of their depth - having great ideas about scenes they'd like to see, but having no idea how to write a coherent story to get to those scenes. 15 years was a bit of a long break, mind, but I can't really blame the BBC for their decision based on stories such as Survival.

The way they went about it wasn't good, though. Just blatant lies.

I found it a tiny bit jarring that she was given all the old stereotypical Jewish affectations, such as calling the Doctor & co. 'shmucks' (inappropriately for the secne in which it happened, I felt) and all the 'oy's she kept emitting. Don't know if anyone else picked up on that but, as a Red Sea Pedestrian myself, it stuck out a mile for me and I didn't really like it. Funnily enough though I thought her accent was fine and she's clearly a talented actress, what with the dancing, and the singing, and the what have you. <shrugs shoulders in a distinctly Semitic fashion>

Like it or not I think the Jewish angle gets used for many New York/Broadway characters due to the massive influence they've had on theatre over there. Hell even Jewish comedians use it in their own routines and shows, just check out anything by Mel Brooks for instance. I would say the 'smuck' talk and the over bearing accent was just a way of trying to create a very OTT old fashioned Broadway vibe.

Nowhere near as bad as the oriental chap in Talons Of Weng Chiang. Played by a caucasian, no less.

Could it get any worse than Catherine Tate?

Actually...

actually both he and David Walliams have already been involved in Who. Both have been in Big Finish audios.

also the Kylie thing is bull, you can tell when they say and insider and then refer to the person being spoken of as "sexy"

I've got good but extrememly vague childhood memories of that Robot story. (I can only remember one scene with the robot walking around outside). So is it worth getting the DVD to see why I liked it so much when I was 4 (!), or should I stick to rose-tinted nostalgia to avoid disappointment?

Tom's first outing as the greatest doctor ever - of course it's worth it! supporting cast is also excellent, and it's a brilliant story. Only let down is the comedy voice acting of the robot guy towards the end.
