Doctor Who

Martha is much better than Rose!!

She's much less irritating, for sure, if a bit underwritten at the moment. I'm sure she'll come into her own. For now it's nice to have a smarter comparison who can actually accept the Doctor's plot exposition without it having to be spelled out in words of one syllable.

I still can't work out if she's attractive or not, though. On balance I'd say yes, but her default facial expression seems to be a smug sneer, which I'm sure is unintentional.

Cracking episode tonight. Some good old fashioned Daleks in corridors stuff - reminded me of Destiny of the Daleks (all it required was the "Seek, locate, exterminate!" chant). The RT cover was a fucking massive spoiler though - RTD claimed not in the article, but that's bollocks, the ending would've been so much better had I not known what was coming.

Only thing I didn't like was the Man in the White Suite-esque Dalek laboratory, with it's little puffs of flame and other corny stuff - I half expected that cliched bloop / gurgle sound effect. Plus the steam coming out of the evolving Dalek seemed a bit naff too. Minor niggles though - the ep was excellent. Can't wait for next week!

Yeah, having seen the cover and then the pig men right at the start of the episode, it wasn't hard to guess that they were looking to create the human/dalek hybrid - and that the guy in the black suit would be the one. Pretty much spoiled the build up the episode was trying to create.

Oh man, that absorption bit was absolutely horrifying. That's "shit you right up" stuff there.

Are you five years old?

My only gripe with the episode (and its more with the series as a whole) is that Martha seems to be falling for the Doctor.

What do you mean "seems"? There's blatant references to it every episode.

Martha is much better than Rose!!

This is true.

Ladies and gentlemen, sense has left the thread.

She's prettier and a far better actress at least. Let's be honest, Billie Piper is a rubbish actress. Absolutely appalling. I really can't understand why people think she can act.

She's not a great actress but she was perfect for this role. They needed to try something else rather than imitate her, because so far they've failed.

Absolutely loved this ep, it looked lush. Dunno why but I was hoping I wasn't alone in my love. The musical number was ace, omg, I'm catching the gay.

It's the first episode of Doctor Who that we have watched on our new telly, but compared most of the stuff that is shown on even on the same channel, it looked absolutely stunning over freeview.

I actually really miss Rose, which I didn't expect at all. I can't help but think Martha's being a little bit underused. She's just kind of there at the moment.

Exactly.

Bad Wolf is on UK Gold right now. Go remind yourself of how much better a partnership they were than this pair of clothes horses.

I forgot all about this yesterday. Is it repeated anywhere?

BBC 3 tonight at 8 I think

3/5 for me, thats mainly due to my feelings about daleks and nothing else.

Thought the BBC did well again with their recreation of New York. The Dalek taking over Diagoras was a very nice effect too.

Looking forward to part 2 now and then I can properly judge the story.

You know what? I wasn't overly enamoured with this one in places. It was enjoyable enough, but something was missing for me. I don't know, somehow a walking half-Dalek, half-human, just isn't as scary as the pepperpots. Who was it who said the absorption was absolutely terrifying? It so wasn't!

This "human Dalek" doesn't look that frightening, and it's a damn shame that the ending was absolutely ruined by the RT cover. I presume that the meaning of the Dalek Plates being installed on the Empire State Building's mast hasn't been revealed yet. I'm presuming it's a further extension to the grand plan, and I'm interested in seeing what that is next week.

Ric from Holby City!

I suspect that the empire states building will be used as some lightning conductor to power some machine that will transform all humans at the same time... or something like that.

I reckon the human'dalek guy will get away, but with badly injured legs - so the next time we'll see him, he'll be half dalek (so he can get around) and half human. He'll be the new series' Davros.

I think there was a brief mention of something. Not lightning, but I can't remember what the fuck it was now. But yeah, it looks like it will be some kind of conductor for it.

It didn't gel right that hybrid Dalek. Somehow the guy gets all his DNA changed, and yet his suit remains perfectly fine. It just looked like exactly what it was - a Dalek head stuck on top of a guy. It would've been better if the suit was ripped in places and you could see grey skin underneath.

You know, make it more believable
