Doctor Who

I love how desperate they are, all patched up and broken, and arguing about their future.

The "serious" stuff was there behind it all too, but only if you know what to look for (Final Experiment/Final Solution, all that racial purity stuff), but it wasn't rammed down or throats.

Only dodgy bits where that head foreman's accent, and the CGI absorption of the big boss chappy. Otherwise it was just brilliant from start to finish. Nicely paced too, i.e. a bit slower, a luxury the single parters often don't have. It allowed for scenes like that wonderful "chat" between the Dalek and Big Boss Man. Great stuff.

Quite enjoyed that. Much better than last weeks, though thats not difficult to achieve. My only gripe with the episode (and its more with the series as a whole) is that Martha seems to be falling for the Doctor. I really dont want another story ark of the assistant loving the Doctor and then finding out it can never happen. Its been done these past few years with Rose. We need something new.

Yeah, but the doctor loved Rose back. This is different.

Thats assuming the Doctor doesnt end up falling for Martha as well. The danger of such stories is that it may come the norm for the Doctor to pick up an assistant and a love affair start between them. I just dont want the series to be about that, Ive always seen the Doctor as being above all that.

They seem to have gone totally old-school this series.

That could have been a Tom Baker episode.

Once again, my thoughts exactly!

I just said those exact words to my brother. That had Tom Baker written all over it, corridors and all, but better. This series is getting better by the week!

EDIT: I was just about to slap on Genesis of the Daleks, before remembering that I'd just packed all my DVDs away. :)

Aw...I was kinda hoping for a Davros hybrid really...especially when boss dalek sucked him into his shell.

Still, it was very enjoyable as usual, and I'm very much looking forward to the next episode.

Also, my memory fails me, and I'm sure there must be a reason for it, but what exactly is the reason that neither the Doctor or the Daleks don't go back in time to long before the Time Wars and...I dunno...do something about it?

That would create a paradox.

I'm still amazed that any Doctor Who fan disliked Gridlock.

I fucking love Doctor WHo. But Gridlock was shit.

FOr a start, they approached it from completely the wrong angle: Fuck the motorway, the story should have centered around the dead city. Second, the entire concept of the motorway was shit, not even counting the sudden arrival of the crabs they decided to call the Macra, and the leaving without sorting out the Macra problem.

One thing I loved about it is, running around with a gun aside, the nurse character. WOnderfully tragic, and so understated I doubt RTD even picked up on it.

RTD and co fucking rubbish the TV movie, then spew out this crap. There's a fucking paradox for the storylines.

The Dead City would have been a different story. This one was about the motorway.

The Macra problem WAS solved. They fed off the noxious fumes. That's what the Macra do, like. No more motorway, no more fumes.

1. And the motorway resulted in a shit story.

2. Fair enough. And the Macra where there why? For that little bit of peril when they caught the car?

Loved RTD 'theorising' in Confidential that the Dalek Sec chose the Empire State Building to escape to because it was in the Dalek memory banks from The Chase.

Or they could be trying to break into the Void and retrieve the trapped Daleks.

Absolutely loved this ep, it looked lush. Dunno why but I was hoping I wasn't alone in my love. The musical number was ace, omg, I'm catching the gay.

I had to rewind confidential because of the way the scriptwriter said a certain word.

She said Diagoras and that word was already bothering me but when she said it originally I swear I heard Davros. Imagine that name in a Dalek voice, slightly bastardised if you must, as language sometimes is. Then I imagined, what if the Dalek part was ripped from the humanoid and thus crippling the 'host'. The human eyes may be empty, sealed?, sockets and where the Dalek eye sat, what exactly, a blue third eye?

I don't know, maybe too long spent on Outpost Gallifrey already. DIAGORAS!

Liked the central idea of tonight's show, the Cult of Skaro is undeniably cool. I just wish the whole show had been about those guys instead of 90% padding. The Doctor just isn't holding his own at the minute. Is it the dialogue or the acting? I dunno.

I agree. Martha is a complete waste. Rose was interesting - there was a nice message about being able to be whoever you want, regardless of background, and the lass could act. This is like a rerun but with someone who's pretending to be interested in what's going on. Maybe that's why the Doc's been boring me so far, nothing to spark off.

Diagoras was a Greek atheist poet.
