Doctor Who

Perhaps the New Joisey accent was even more pronounced during the depression?

I think it gets more pronounced in the "what the Brits think they sound like" production meetings.

It's probably similar to the way in which any US show with an English-set episode has the old red phoneboxes, the old red London Buses, those Buckingham Palace guards, some bowler-hat wearing, umbrella-wielding businessmen with Cockney accents who speak in rhyme... you know what I mean.

Really looking forward to this Saturday's ep; I feel that even the best single episode stories can still feel a little rushed/squashed together, New Who's really been at its best in double parters. Add in some Daleks, and the fact that they're not appearing in a finale (which will hopefully mean we won't have to go through the process of loads of them being introduced and then whipped away in the final minutes) and we could well have something very nice indeed here.

Agree.

I'm incredibly excited about this one/these two. I fricking love the Daleks.

We need more two-parters, if only for the cliffhangers which I always considered to be an integral part of Doctor Who.

Which reminds me - with DT in his second season (and presumably having signed up for a third already), how come they didn't revert back to a new version of the traditional opening title sequence featuring the Doctor's face? I can understand why they didn't risk doing it with CT who was only ever likely to appear for one season, but with this Doctor sticking around for a while longer they had a great opportunity to give fans of the original show a treat every week.

:(

I don't think they didn't do the face thing because they knew Chris was leaving; I think it was a design choice, and I think it works. I actually love the way the names fly past the screen, and - as much as I loved them in the past - I don't think a big-David-face would work with the current credits.

I've just realised Toonfool has barely posted in the thread this season has his telly broke?

Haha! My spies informed me of this post.

I thought the first episode was much better than I expected (not having come into the series with high hopes), the second episode was fantastic, and this third one was a bit rubbish. I've not been using the forum a lot due to work commitments, though I'm having a few days off at the mo'.

I actually clicked on page 1 by mistake - glad I did though. I was at Uni when Rose hit TV, and not on rllmuk an awful lot, so I never really saw everyone's reactions to it on here.

If anyone is still interested, though not the best episode (with hindsight), I think given that it had to make a tired British audience fall in love with what had become a bit of a national joke all over again in 45 minutes, as well as actually tell a story and introduce a new Doctor and assistant at the same time, it did as good a job as any of us could have expected, I think.

And had some great lines.

"I'll have to tell his Mum that he's dead, and you just forgot him again."

I never quite understood all the anti-Rose (episode) feeling around here either - I've seen it at least three or four times and I can't see what's wrong with it. The Doctor's monologue about being able to feel the Earth spinning and all that is great stuff.

The only bit I don't especially like is Mickey turning plastic. The hair looked naff, and then when he grows a big sledgehammer thing on his arm, the CGI looks pretty terrible. But other than that, it's a very good effort, and the best start we could have hoped for.

I think people don't like the sillier aspects, like the bin burp and plastic Mickey. Fair enough.

Just watched Gridlock back with the mother on video - she hadn't seen it. The first time I've watched it back since Saturday, too. She actually burst into tears when the roof of the motorway opened and the light shone in. And again, when Abide With Me started playing.

So, I'd say that was a hit.

Actually, Tennant describing Gallifrey back there at the end almost did it to me, this time. You can see it in his eyes - he actually looks destroyed.

The whole episode was a lot better than I remembered, actually. Up there with Smith & Jones and The Shakespeare Code, which I also watched back today to pass the minutes while on the exercise bike. Couldn't be happier with the series so far.

Hope that's not unlucky.

I like the way that someone posts about Ecclestone possibly leaving, the next post says that David Tennant is rumoured to take on the role, then there's page upon page of people speculating on who will take it on. Hardly any of the further posts think about Tennant.

Tennant narrated the documentary that was shown before 'Rose'. He must have been lined up already I reckon.

That means Anthony Head is the next Doctor. I hope I'm wrong.

Agreed but he was awesome in School re-union, saw a repeat the other day and he really was rather ace, bought out the most menace that Tennant has mustered too.
