That didn't sound like Graham Norton. Unless Graham Norton sounds like Ardal O'Hanlon. Which he doesn't.

they also ripped the character straight out of Spaceballs from the looks of it! :(

Saturdays episode was good if silly but I couldn't help laugh everytime I saw the witches! ^_^

Not scary at all!

One of the things I really liked about the second episode was the line "It's like Back to the Future!" For people who've read/watched a lot of time-travel stories, it gets repetitive having everything explained each time, and this was an effective (and very funny) way around that.

...But no doubt someone will now point out that it was a lazy shortcut. Or that they've got kids who haven't seen BTTF and so didn't get it. ^_^

Words define the world we live in. So words have power - its not the biggest jump in the world. The name is the thing, as they used.

No attempt to rationalise it works. Words don't define the world we live in in any literal sense, and nor do numbers (the 'split the atom' analogy doesn't really work, as the existence of the equation itself doesn't cause an atom split). Words are just sounds that we ascribe associations to. The core of the plot was a loose mixture of sci-fi and philosophy that doesn't really bear scrutiny but was fun enough for forty-five minutes.

It made me think of this place too.

Not a big fan of magick then, no?

So who are these Eternals that have been name checked a couple of times now?

Actually I prefer fantasy to sci-fi, I used to be a big fan of Buffy and Angel. If the Doctor had said that he didn't understand how the carrionites were able to cast their 'spells', or they'd actually gone down the fantasy route such as in the aforementioned Torchwood episode, I wouldn't have a problem. I tend to be more forgiving of plots involving 'magic' because it's meant (by definition, almost) to break the rules of how the universe works. I also seem to be able to tolerate magic working in a more arbitary way (such as the 'naming' only working once) than I do when something like that occurs and purports to have a scientific explanation.

6.8 million overnight figure, which worries me slightly, with next week's episode being put off to 7.40 pm because of the football. Hope BBC One make this clear with lots of trailers, or next week's figure could drop quite low. Though the appearance of the Daleks in #4 and #5 should perk things up again.

1 …. 6.8 (35.8%) …. Doctor Who (19:00) BBC1

2 …. 6.0 (28.4%) …. Casualty (21:00) BBC1

3 …. 5.9 (29.8%) …. Any Dream Will Do (19:45) BBC1

4 …. 5.5 (26.7%) …. The National Lottery People's Quiz (20:45) BBC1

5 …. 4.9 (24.6%) …. BBC News; Weather (22:00) BBC1

6 …. 4.1 (21.1%) …. Vernon Kay's Gameshow Marathon (19:30) ITV

7 …. 4.1 (19.4%) …. Who Wants to be a Millionaire? (20:30) ITV

8 …. 4.0 (26.2%) …. Grease Is the Word (18:00) ITV

9 …. 3.9 (20.4%) …. Harry Hill's TV Burp (19:00) ITV

10 … 3.1 (20.3%) …. Match of the Day (22:15) BBC1

Boyatsea, I don't like the show as much as you, so this is easy for me to say, I suppose, but stop worrying! There's already a fourth series commissioned. Everyone loves Who at the moment, relax.

I think I'm actually hoping Watford vs. Man U goes to extra time, in which case they'll delay it by a week and it will be back on at 7pm.

I feel like I'm losing sleep. I think any Who fan is a little paranoid that the Beeb will do away with it again, to be honest.

It's getting great ratings AND selling shitloads of merchandise. Which other BBC (or other British show for that matter) can say the same?

I think it's safe for a little while yet, even if I doubt it'll ever come anywhere close to the run the original series had.

I wouldn't care about it being on air if it was pish. Do you see?

Yeah.

Doesn't stop Who fans being paranoid that the Beeb will lose faith again, mind. Have a look around any of the big Who sites and you'll see that we are paranoid. Forever paranoid. It comes with the turf.

Its a show about an immortal timelord from another planet who travels time and space in police box.

What are you talking about rationalising whether or not some plot point is feasible?

You seriously need to step away from the TV/Computer and take a breather.

Or get laid.

What exactly's your problem? I was responding to someone who said it made sense by explaining why it didn't. Just telling them they were wrong would have just been rude, something some of us don't like to be.

Besides, I said it was fun, did I not? As Davros says. you're the one getting worked up. And if you find getting laid can be fitted into the minute or so it took me to articulate and write that post, you're doing it wrong.
