Doctor Who

Just loading up the preview now. Spent the last three days on a modern-Who marathon. New Earth, Age of Steel, Rise of the Cybermen, Aliens of London, World War Three, The Parting of the Ways, Army of Ghosts and Doomsday. I'm positively fucking excited now. Since it came back, Who has had some amazing moments. Here's to more tomorrow and over the next few months.

EDIT - That trailer looks FUCKING ACE. Even better than the one they put out for series two. I just hope Smith & Jones pulls in the ratings and the rest of the series holds them.

SECOND EDIT - Actually, the thing from that trailer that grabbed me was

Martha asking for help and the Doctor saying that he's not the Doctor.

I told you last year, all this worrying about viewing figures is bad for your health. S4 is commissioned already we can watch the whole series without worrying about viewing figures and Audience Appreciation index scores

Who am I kidding, I'll be in the ratings thread on OG every Sunday morning at 10.00.

Heh. I expect a weekly PM with all such facts attached. :D

Our house is so stoked for this.

Last night we watched the Christmas episode again to get in the mood. At the end the five year old asked me when Rose was coming back. When I said never, the penny finally dropped, and we had real tears until bedtime.

It will be interesting to see how she takes to Rose's "replacement".

Christ you cruel bastard!

:D

If all goes well, all the talk with the younglings will be about Martha at 7.45pm.

Just watched Boom Town as a final warm up for 7pm. One of my favourite 45 mins of telly ever, that. Brilliant dialogue.

Only telling her the truth!

I did say that we could watch Rose any time on DVD, but this didn't help much as she wanted new episodes with her in. It's a bit like a mini bereavement I suppose! In the end I bottled it though and said nobody knows if she'll ever come back - after all, she's still alive, just stranded in another universe. So we need to watch the new ones and find out.

But you're right, by tonight Martha will be the new role model...

That's half how I comforted myself nine months ago, to be honest.

I'm not even joking there. :D

Incidentally, the Beeb seem to have both Doctor Who and Any Dream Will Do as their "ones to watch" tonight. Confusingly. But still, I'll let them off. :D

I've managed to avoid all the hype pretty much so far (was in a cafe this morning where BBC News 24 was on, talking to a couple of folks and showing clips) so I don't know anything about the ep apart from the rhino fella.

Looking forward to it, hoping it doesn't have any episodes like Fear Her this series :D

This was surprisingly excellent for me. The only things that weren't were the bit where the Doctor sprang back up to life (as there didn't seem to be any reason for it) and the fact that he got a new sonic screwdriver at the end. Given that it was being over-used in the last series, I was quite glad to see the Doctor deprived of it but if the quality of writing manages to stick around this level for the remainder of the series then it might not be a problem.

Good stuff.

I had hoped they would work in the new assistant a little less abruptly than that - they meet but she doesn't begin traveling in the TARDIS until episode 2 or 3 or something. I guess they did kind of address that with him saying she's just coming for a ride, but still...

I hope they introduce more continuity into the show too - bad guys, places, events are often so transient in Doctor Who. I like the idea of the galactic police popping up more often, like the way Torchwood did before.

Anyway, enjoyed it.
