When obviously the correct response is "That's a retarded argument. I doubt you could make a TV show under those constraints either so surely your opinion that it's 'good' is just as invalid."

If things were only worthy of being judged by their creator's peers then we should just shut every thread in this forum and turn it into a blog for Biglime and the Pickfords.

you mean we haven't already

which is only a problem if your a bigot, to be perfectly fuckin honest. Shit I really should get less lovely friends who happen to be gay. I swear their slowly turning me

I don't think it's bigotted. Three of the five main characters are now confirmed bisexual (Ianto out of fucking nowhere) and the other two have snogged members of the same sex in the show and aparently weren't to fussed about it. That's so statistically improbable as to render the whole thing preposterous.

To be honest, I was a smidge tipsy posting that.

As for the Ianto thing, its just Jack init, he could turn Warren Beaty

Its not just that, it just feels really forced in places. That bit with Jack and the pilot... it came out of nowhere, no build up. Its like there HAD to be a gay moment in the script, so they shoehorned it in there.

that confused me, I thought that was the REAL Jack Harkness?

No build up? "I knew there was once a real Jack Harkness. I just didn't realise he was so... hot!". "Why did you tell me to do that? Now she thinks she loves me!". "Spend tonight as if it was your last".

I thought that episode was really quite beautiful actually, and it didn't feel forced at all. The real Jack was gay, but due to the society of the time he'd been keeping his sexuality bottled up. He cared for his girlfriend, but obviously he didn't truly love her, although she felt strongly for him. After he got the impression that "our" Jack knew of his fate the next day, he decided to take his advice and treat the night as if it would be his last, and as such he could let go of his inhibitions without any fear of the repercussions. It certainly didn't just come "out of nowhere".

I mean no build up on the real Jack's side.

You didn't make it to the other two of my quotes then. :)

The two Jacks gained more and more of a connection as the episode went on, building up to the "lovers corner" and eventually the dance and kiss. I clocked onto the sub-plot when the real Jack let his girlfriend go without so much as a kiss. He only went after her after Jack told him to, and seemed more than a little agitated to learn that she "thought" she loved him.

Yup, compared to the other bisexual adventures throughout the series this one was practically Shakespeare...

I'm of the general opinion that Dr. Who wasn't that much cop. Torchwood, however, is ace. Where does Jack fit into in the Dr.Who series? Who is Jack - I saw the last episode but I wasn't paying much attention. Just bought the boxset today. woohoo!

And what's Sarah Jane adventures?

And what's Sarah Jane adventures?

Its what it says on the tin Stooker..

Sarah Jane ( Dr who's mate ) continues to investigate and battle aliens that come to earth.

she has a bedroom of weapons and gadgets to help her.. and access to K-9 and a super computer called Mr Smith.

Its also a kids show, that will be on Childrens BBC.

there was a pilot episode on BBC1 new years day. It was good.

Well, having watched the entire series of Torchwood over the last week or so, I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I did wonder at the start, thought it was all a bit dubious, but as it wore on, I really came to get into it. Not gone go into a big ramble as to why I liked it as it only be picked apart with lots of querulous nit picking, but suffice to say it's been quality entertainment. Highlights include Countrycide and Out of Time, which was incredibly touching as Jack sat there with the old guy as he killed himself - oh, and the bit where he visits his, now old, son. Positively weepie!

The Readybrek 'Robot Food Police' advert delivers more genuine drama and sci-fi moments than Torchwood.

The resolution to the plot's about the same standard too.

"The robots analysed a store bought breakfast cereal, found it contained exactly the kind of things they wanted people to eat so they malfunctioned and blew up."

"Good work, Ianto."

Corrected.

I have read something about a glimpse of something or someone important in the trailer at the end of runaway bride, something that gives a lot away.

The Master?

There was a

black Dalek

at the end of the trailer. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?

I thought I saw Sontarans in the trailer too, but after watching it again I'm pretty sure I was mistaken.

I think it's just those dopey looking Rhino aliens with their helmets on tbh.

Yeah, I know. I rewatched the trailer after The Runaway Bride and saw it to be the case. Was a mite disappointed by the fact - the Sontarans would be a worthy adversary to bring back. Plus, it would save kids spending money on expensive licensed toys - a Sontaran can be easily fashioned from a potato and a bit of tinfoil.

Continually fielding aliens that are basically just anthropormorthic animals seems like laziness to me. "It's an alien that looks like a cat! It's an alien that looks like a spider! It's an alien that looks like a Rhino!"

Aliens that look like potatoes? Far more terrifying.

Anthropomorphic potatoes though:

Saw something in one of the papers today about a mix-up with production of the DVDs. Probably old news as they've been out for a bit. But in the middle of New Earth, viewers are treated to scenes of limbs being hacked off from the latest Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. I laughed, but I can imagine parents not being too happy.

I've enjoyed Torchwood. More 'soapy' than Dr Who, which obviously has little character development outside the main two.

I'm a bit surprised that people are pointing out flaws in the scripts (coffee tin with message, rift machine piece in the clock), it's a freaking sci-fi for pity's sake. It involves aliens and the like, it's not a documentary after all.

Reminds me a bit of http://youtube.com/watch?v=-rnfHkpawtg

So you're basically saying that in sci-fi, you can throw consistency, logic and believability out of the window?

Just in case anyones interested the Doctor Who boxset New Beginnings which features Keeper of Traken and Logopolis and Castrovalva is available from Amazon for a bargain price of £17.99

You know it makes sense. Even if only to see action men coppers and Aunt Vanessa.

Its the first time Doctor Who scared me, well I was only 5 and a bit.
