Well Peter Davidson is still the youngest Doctor. Was only 29 when cast. So jerellis is wrong on that one.

As for Richard E Grant, doesnt like the role, hates the show and RTD again was not a fan of his phoning it in performance in Shalka.

Alan Davies would be too much like McGann IMO.

As for Paul McGann I hope your all aware of his brand new audios as the 8th Doctor with a New companion played by Sheridan Smith they start this New Years Eve on BBC7 at 6pm. Repeated at Midnight. First 2 parter is called BLOOD OF THE DALEKS

I wasn't trying to be ultra-accurate with the successive Doctors' ages, just making a point that the general trend seems to have been that The Doctor has been getting 'younger' ever since his first incarnation. Colin Baker certainly wasn't a return to an older Doctor following Peter Davison's tenure, regardless of whether or not he was a year or two older than Davison when he started in the role.

How do you liken Alan Davies to Paul McGann? They're practically polar opposites - McGann tense, troubled and animated, Davies upbeat, comedic and laid back.

Long curly hair

Got back home at about 5pm yesterday. The Tivo had recorded 4 episodes of Torchwood + Doctor Who. Yay. Except it hadn't. The digibox manage to crash so they were all blank apart from one episode of TW which had no sound.

Managed to grab last nights 8pm showing of DH. Watched it too but kept nodding off so I didn't follow it at all.

Any good places to grab TW?

How long are the audios on bbc7? Have to set a manual recording for this.

Bring on Chewitel Eionofor (sp?)

That would be brilliant casting. Chiwetel is one of the most underrated actors around and it would certainly take the character in an interesting direction. I always thought David Thewlis would be brilliant as the Doctor and hark back to the more classic Doctors.

I'd like to see McGann given another shot at it. I guess he enjoys being the Doctor as he's doing the audio ones?

I'm a big E. Grant fan but I think he's too 'obvious' and it wouldn't work.

Ecclestone was brilliant and, I thought, a bit of a surprise choice. I think the problems come when they start looking for someone 'wacky'. It's better when they pick someone and see what they brign to the role, if that makes sense.

I agree.

I do think there is quite a bit of consistency in the Doctors character overall. He works best when he's really spikey and unpredictible - just when you seem him as a friendly uncle he turns around and responds agressively. The best Doctor Who ever is probably Gene Wilder in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.

He's essentially the same character as Sherlock Holmes and Dale Cooper.

I like the suggestions of Chewy Thingamagig and David Thewliss.

Looking back at the new Doctor Who's ( lack of ) quality episodes...

the original choices Billy Piper and Eccleston were PERFECT.

then it all went wrong somewhere. There is no continuity at all at the moment, and it fucking sucks.

I wish Billy and Christopher would have at least tried two/three series worth before doing one.

The BBC pre-emptively debunked that. Someone then pre-emptively posted their pre-emptive debunking. Post.

Before anyone decides to let us all know that the Sun and Radio 1 told them Tennant was leaving halfway through S4, A season that isnt even commissioned yet heres the offical BBC statement

BBC statment posted by the Press Association:

SHOWBIZ Tennant

`DR WHO TO QUIT' DENIED BY BBC

By Andrew Barrow, PA

Dr Who bosses today denied claims that star David Tennant is to quit the show - but said a fourth series featuring the Scot as the Timelord has not yet been ordered.

Reports claimed Tennant, 35, would leave in the middle of the fourth series of the sci-fi drama, due to begin filming next year – sparking a hunt for the 11th Timelord after less than two years in the role.

But a BBC spokeswoman said today that no fourth series had even been commissioned yet and negotiations with the star would not begin until it had been given the green light.

“David is absolutely committed to the show and is currently filming the third series,” said a BBC spokeswoman today.

“There is no fourth series currently commissioned yet so we could not confirm his involvement in that yet.

“David Tennant is committed to the series. When a further series is commissioned, we will be able to confirm his involvement.”

The Scot’s third series is set to be shown in the spring.

Tennant became Dr Who last year when Christopher Eccleston quit after just one series of the resurrected show.

In the third series of the sci-fi favourite, he stars with newcomer Freema Agyeman, who replaced Billie Piper.

A female Doctor could work but I fear it would be so badly cast and they'd go for somebody like Dawn French whereas it should go to someone like Tilda Swinton.

But the Doctor's male - he might be an alien, but he's still male. There'd be no sense in changing his gender other than to 'mix things up' in some way.

Well I'm by no means a big fan of Doctor Who (old or new) but I always saw him as just a being, and like certain frogs and other animals, can change sex if need be. I'm sure real fans of the series will disagree with this but if it took the character and series in an interesting direction then I'd be all for it. If however, it was just some gimmick or PC experminent then it would be awful.

I saw Dr Who christmas day special. I don't even know who is Catherine Tate is. Fecking hell she is awful scary. Imagine being married to her and her mouth. At the end I was thankful she have turned down the Doctor. I couldn't bear her on TV.

I think the next Doctor Who should be Christopher Ellison (Famous for his Frank Burnside role) I think it need a little more steel in a man. Imagine Dr Frank Burnside slapping the Daleks down.

I think Doctor who need to raise it standard in all department.
