I don't understand why people still like this? It's not even acceptable fodder for children, but it still seems so popular.

I only watched it because it was on in the house, so I was never going to attempt to enjoy it, but I especially agree with the negative comments about the villain. She was ridiculous, and the actress in question would have been better suited to acting as the back end of a pantomime horse.

As a whole this was so bad that Catherine Tate didn't spoil it. THAT bad.

Do fuck up

Now, on to the matter at hand. I thought it was weak. They reshot the start, so it didnt really tie in with the end of last season. It seemed lighter in the tardis.

Tate was pointless and the whole spiderwoman thing was tacked on at the end. It was bad but was around nine million percent better than everything else on over xmas.

And Sarah Jane Adventures looks great.

Do fuck up

It appears it is you who has fucked up. You and Russell T. Davis. Maybe you should get Dr Who to fix this fuck up with his 'sonic screwdriver' - it's employed (via a total lack of imagination on the Dr Who writers' part) to fix everything else nowadays.

I did enjoy that. Tate was a bit annoying, but then her character was obviously supposed to be annoying. I think a lot of people just made up their minds beforehand to think of her as being shit. I went into it with none of that baggage because I never watched her show.

When I heard about the Tardis in a car chase, I was expecting utter shit, but they pulled it off better than I expected. Not perfect or anything, but better than expected.

I liked Tate giving the Doctor a couple of slaps. References to how people don't seem to have taken any notice of last years invasion and the Dalek v's Cybermen fight. The Thames being drained. And even a kind of simultaneous groan and guilty giggle at "This time it's personnel."

I waited until after the Special to watch Confidential to avoid potential spoilers, knowing they were showing the car chase scene. The concert looked good. When they had Cybermen going through the audience glowering down at people, I thought I'd love to have been there.

hmmmm

CT was annoying at first, but calmed down towards the end... my problem with the episode were the evil Santa things from last year and the horrendous panto acting from the Racnos Empress. The Dr himself was pretty bad in this one and the Gallifrey reference was nice... seeing the creation of the world was good though...

I suspect this won't be the last we see of the Racnoss though - I mean, given that the entire earth is built around a ship of them, I'm sure a bit of water isn't going to do that much harm - and they'll escape at some point.

How the hell did she manage to drill that hole right next to Torchwood though?!?!!?

Pish and patwaddle. Little Britain was actually good for once and not incredibley shit like season 3, Buzzcocks was ace. Gremlins 2 was on! A Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart. Uncle Buck popped in to say hello and Doc Martin topped it off on Christmas night.

Plus Sky showed the Hogfather again.

Don't forget, Torchwood is on at 10:30 tonight, for those that were busy on Xmas eve <_<

Was it any good? The 50s people from the plane was almost interesting but didn't know where it was going and got extremely boring.

Also what's this Sarah Jane thing? They're spreading themselves so fucking thin when they should be concentrating on making the main show as amazing and unmissable as it was in Season 1.

After Thomas last night was good as well. Even ITV can't go wrong with a drama about an autistic child and his pet dog. The solid acting and an uncontrived emotional core were something Dr Who could only dream of, and then they went and put up the real life update at the end. Thomas [the dog] became very poorly and had to be put down while Kyle [the autistic boy] held him. It tugged at my heart just like all the junk food I've been eating over the past three days.

I thought it was really good. Yeah, Tate was annoying to begin with, but that was the character more than anything. Also the special effects are really improving, they were very consistant in this.

Being an hour long as opposed to 45 minutes was also far better, letting the story breathe a little. Did nobody else notice? Are they all going to be an hour long from now on or was it just this one? I'm hoping they are.

The last Christmas special was an hour long too, so don't get your hopes up. :)

I really enjoyed it, it was a great rollercoaster ride for Christmas. Some decent moments of pathos, and Tate wasn't too annoying for a while.

Of course, it nearly all fell apart when the Spiderwoman appeared. All those hours of prosthetics, and she still delivered a hissingly shite performance worthy of a panto villain. Definitely the weak point of the ep. Someone tell the director that extreme close-ups of someone continually writhing their face about just looks crap.

Rather liked the car chase, having thought beforehand that it would be awful.

It was the best episode I've seen in ages and Tennant's best performance yet, although I think Dotters is on to something with his appraisal - I couldn't quite put my finger on it before, but I have to agree that he sometimes seems to simply be reading the script and little more.

Haven't watched AT yet... Want to - but assumed it would be awful - it's on video and all that and wifey watched it last night and then raved about how good it was and how I should watch it as soon as I'm not working and burying my head in the sand and trying to avoid it.... But I'd love to see something in Who that has the emotional connection that AT did with family that I know who watched it. The Doctor is someone who has a huge amount of similarities with an autist (unaware or aloof from social concerns, obsessed with flashing lights or spinny things, process orientated rather than freewheeling and all that, unable to vocalise thoughts or feelings in a manner that others can understand... Maybe that makes his assistants the Thomas' of the tale :);) Mickey might have been the metal dog, but Rose was the animated steam train substitute HAH! Now that I like, having to have bought daughter the best of Billy CD for Christmas - only one song on it but quite a few bonus tracks...)

Ironically, and again veering somewhat off of the subject slightly but in keeping with the cares of the 'mukkers, my son is an autist, very very similar to Kyle apparently (most of my family tune in to such programs to see what it is we and he have to work through and have told us it was good. Kyle is the same age in the drama and there are a lot of behavioural similarities) but it's been a NIntendo DS that's been the thing that's brought himout of his shell somewhat: God bless the Big N, Electroplankton, New Mario, Brain Training, Wario Touched and Cars... Now if only they could do a game about eating things that aren't red or yellow I'd be in hoggy heaven.

Back on track a little: Torchwood is on tonight and last of the series yes?

To nip the posts in the bud.

Before anyone decides to let us all know that the Sun and Radio 1 told them Tennant was leaving halfway through S4, A season that isnt even commissioned yet heres the offical BBC statement

BBC statment posted by the Press Association:

SHOWBIZ Tennant

`DR WHO TO QUIT' DENIED BY BBC

By Andrew Barrow, PA

Dr Who bosses today denied claims that star David Tennant is to quit the show - but said a fourth series featuring the Scot as the Timelord has not yet been ordered.

Reports claimed Tennant, 35, would leave in the middle of the fourth series of the sci-fi drama, due to begin filming next year – sparking a hunt for the 11th Timelord after less than two years in the role.

But a BBC spokeswoman said today that no fourth series had even been commissioned yet and negotiations with the star would not begin until it had been given the green light.

“David is absolutely committed to the show and is currently filming the third series,” said a BBC spokeswoman today.

“There is no fourth series currently commissioned yet so we could not confirm his involvement in that yet.

“David Tennant is committed to the series. When a further series is commissioned, we will be able to confirm his involvement.”

The Scot’s third series is set to be shown in the spring.

Tennant became Dr Who last year when Christopher Eccleston quit after just one series of the resurrected show.

In the third series of the sci-fi favourite, he stars with newcomer Freema Agyeman, who replaced Billie Piper.
