Doctor Who

You know the silly lights that people keep going on about in the car? Apparantly the armed response units in undercover cars have those too (according to my brother who works with them) - they're an update to the old kojak-stick-it-on-the-rood type lights.

Jack really cannot carry this, probably why he's shoved into the background, looks more and more like some 10 a penny male model cast in some dreadful C5 movie.

The story was really predictable, and unoriginal, not remotely adult, just a pointless 45 minutes.

Don't ARU's have something more like a strobe light (or a pair of them), not something that is more like a Christmas decoration.

WTF? How did he have a Cyberwoman inside Torchwood for so long with nobody knowing? Doesn't seem to make much sense.

That old guy couldn't help but have a grope of her tits I see.

Should that be Human 2.0 rather than Human .2?

The ad for next week seems reminiscent of an ep from Ultraviolet and again it's the comparisons to that series that hurts Torchy as much as anything... Given up on the series now, shall tune in for the last ep just to see what they do with that but I can't see anything in this to bring me back. I'll carry on with the thread, just for the fun of this which has far more character than the show it's interested in but basically thats as much interest as the show now has for me...

Incidentally have they released viewing figures for ep 3 and soon for ep 4? How does this sort of info get provided? Would be interested to see if the drop off is pretty extensive.

Halfway in, it's as dense as normal I see... Human .2? Don't they mean human 2.0?

No. She'd only been partially converted, so .2 it is.

As much as I love the new Who, I thought that episode was a bit odd really. I enjoyed it, but it all felt very contrived. How the hell did Ianto manage to not only smuggle in an entire Cyber conversion unit, with Cyberwoman in tow, and manage to keep it hidden for so long? Why did Captain Jack come up with the brilliant idea of using the sodding Terradactyl to take Lisa out, when he could have just shoved a blowtorch in her face? Why did RTD not intervene to turn the unconvincing melodrama into his own brand of illogically amazing melodrama?

Ho hum. I guess this brings new Who's dodgy Cyberman episode count to three, against the two amazing ones.

I thought it was OK, probably the best episode so far. Topics been covered before with the whole loss/conversion of a loved one to an alien/cybernetic race. It passed the time anyway.

Strange thing I did notice, here cyberboots were given cyberheels.

Next weeks preview

Was that another one from the last series of Who? The creatures from the school episode? 2 consecutive episodes taking stuff from the last series of Who would be a bit much. Or 3 if you count the hand.

Nope its

killer fairies

Its the PJ Hammond episode :D and I thought it looked rather good.

Felt the cyberwoman was a decent episode bar the poorly executed costume.

Thinking about it contrived is the best way of looking at it and there was no need for so many things to have happened... Why should TW not have a Cyberwoman in there? That would fit within their remit and it would have had more resonance for Ianto to have the relationship ongoing behind their backs... For her only talking to him, showing signs of life that he was the only one privy to... That would have been more interesting. Everything felt forced into a story, not always for the best of reasons...

Everything felt false/clumsy: nonsensical team building basketball game? Check (I mean that was Buck Rogers Disco bad). Foolhardy ways of running a not for profit organisation? Check. SEXY costume (hohoho)? check... Why?

Dunno how to do spoiler tags but the entire relationship at the heart of the ep... was she human at the start? Changed somewhere down the line after being fixed? Playing her cards to escape? What was the line that was drawn with the character... Each episode fills me with questions, nothing to do with story just about execution. Sigh... Why couldn't they have put half the effort into getting Ultraviolet series 2 up and running with the same cast and crew...

Wait. Isn't that the plot of Paul Cornell's Pete Wisdom comic?

Well its cetainly similar, although I think Cornells tale, is more about the land/dimension of Faerie attack Earth.

Basically Wisdom sounds similar to what his last Eighth Doctor book The Shadows Of Avalon was about.

Gonna try and pick up Wisdom today actually, if I can find it.

I'm still enjoying the show but I think they should forget about it being an adult drama. It isn't. They should edit it sharpish and use it to replace the awful Robin Hood.

This show is adult in the way some video games are adult. A few swears and sex references thrown in simply as a marketing tactic. There's absolutley nothing inherently adult about this.

Going on the episodes broadcast so far, I'd agree with you, but I have heard from those in the know, that it does get a lot darker as the series progresses.
