Doctor Who

All things being well, in a couple of years time we'll regard those two episodes as being s*it of the highest order.

Because this is the kind of stuff that British telly should be doing. Oh yes. Finally, somebody's got it. At last, the genre show is back, and hopefully the next few years are going to leap us forwards to somewhere near where we should be.

For now, bravo. There's a lot more to come out of this stuff.

(Oh, and Eve Myles is absolutely f*cking gorgeous. ^_^ )

By the way, I'll thank you all for acknowledging that I got that "introducing the team" scene entirely fucking correct. :)

But I'll forgive RTD just this once.

Some stuff: Murray Gold in "not-shit-music" shocker. Oh, and sort out the lighting a bit, boys.

very good... prefered episode 1 to 2, but I'm looking forward to making this a regular Sunday night feature.

btw, did I miss something, how did Jack get hold of the Dr's hand?

It was cut off during the Christmas Special, when it would have fallen to the surface. I can only assume Torchwood was on the scene to pick it up.

DOH!

I'm an idiot.

I just worked out who the severed hand belongs to. ^_^

I... no, I can't figure it out...

I thought the show was OK - the twist of Jack being invincible (presumably due to Rose?) was sweet as, but the supporting characters were dull as dishwater and the performances (all round) were not much better.

It's got potential, but is pretty boring.

Well that was pretty funny, mostly in a good way - definately worth watching to see where it goes. I'm guessing they were just nods but lots of stuff that made me think of the start of Angel though, invulnerable trench coat wearing main guy who's lost touch with humanity, 2nd episode about something that kills during sex. The idea of him being invulnerable now is pretty cool though, esp that it seemed like he wanted to die maybe and that there must have been some interesting stuff happening for him to end up at Torchwood.

What I liked about it was that it was fun. Now that may come as a surprise, considering that I do tend to like stuff a bit gritty-like... I thought the tone wasn't completely as it should be throughout, but I ended up with a big grin on my face. I want more shows like this.

It's the kind of show I'd happily write an ep for.

What was this referring to? Linky linky? ^_^

But yeah I just watched the first two episodes on BBC3. Amazingness, and I'm not sure I'll be able to wank to anything other than the lesbian bit EVER AGAIN.

EVER.

I enjoyed that. It's a shame that we don't follow the U.S's lead though with leading ladies and pick fit ones more often. Gwen is a munter. It may be more "realistic" to have ordinary looking women doing these kind of jobs. But if I am going to watch some lesbian action, I'd rather they look a bit more attractive than next doors labrador. Oh, big winky - just in case! ^_^

Did anyone else think the sound was slightly out of sync, especially in the first episode? Only a fraction of a second or so but enough to be distracting. This was on Telewest Digital.

yeah, i watched the first one on NTL and had the same problem.

I agree. Not perfect but a lot of fun.

And she isn't ugly. Far from it.

It was ok. It looks like it has potential, which would probably be huried up no end by removing the "Look! I'm a newbie idiot" nonsense. The tone wasn't bad to be honest, and managed to steer well enough clear of naff.

Though it still suffers from the Doctor Who plot device of introduce widget then use it to solve problem at the end. It was natural enough here, but no more please.

It's better than 90% of British Drama. Probably.

Some of the music is a bit Brasseye though, the music from before/after the ads seems to pop up for a wink every 15 minutes in this too.

And the Captain is a bit too much like Captain Mal from Firefly.

Indeed (although on that note I'm fond of saying "We can't do drama, and the Americans can't do comedy", so I'm not quite sure if that makes this a sign of high achievement, or that it just had such low hurdles to leap).

Not offensive, but can't say it was entertaining either. As I feared, without the Doctor it's not comparable to Who, so it was a decent stab at a US style show (hardly any of which I watch either) with the same tired template of characters & rehashed plots. (It's no X Files, that's for sure. it was a winner from day one). Also the 'adult' content was like they remembered every so often they could swear or show a lesbian snog rather than have it as anything approaching part of the plot (like the sex in QAF).

In a word, meh.

Man, he's nothing like Mal, I don't know where you got that from other than the WW2 style coat. Mal was pretty reserved around women but Jack's still a total player, though I'd say it hints at him getting bored of that kind of thing ("Travel the Universe for the best sex and you'll still die alone" sounded like it came from personal experience).

And the music wasn't amazing but it was infinitely better than most of the new Doctor Who.
