Doctor Who

It's gonna be hard watching this the same week Marenghi comes out on DVD, that's for sure.

How come? Ones a spoof of early 80's telly, the others a modern piece of sci-fi drama?

Here what SFX magazine have to say

http://www.sfx.co.uk/page/sfx?entry=first_...ns_to_torchwood

I tend to agree with most of their opinions(I may be a bit biased seeing as I mod their forum) but I'm expecting good things

Dont know if this has been mentioned but Tennant is quitting:

David Tennant has announced that the new series of Doctor Who could be his last.

That doesn't mean "I'm quitting", it means "I'm negotiating my contract for the next series and I want more money."

Thats all I have. Dont shoot the messenger folks ;)

This all stems from his current interview in this months DWM, where he says nothing about quitting just mentions he hasnt signed on for another series yet, but he's had talks about S4 with Julie Gardener and Russ of the Davies. I reckon he'll do a Pete and Pat and quit after S4, I think thats when RTD will leave as well.

Oddly enough I didnt mention this to the script editor last night as its a complete non-story at the moment.

I think it boils down to the fact with its current popularity the Tabloids and media like running at least 1 Doctor Who item a week.

Expect the papers to be full of Torchwood tomorrow, due to the Press launch and Cinema previews tonight.

I'm going to neither :D Still I can wait till sunday

Which apparently BBC then thought wait a minute this is really looking good can we've changed our minds now we're gonna show it. Which then didnt happen due to BBC3 sticking to their guns

It's repeated on BBC2 the following Wednesday.

I support it being on BBC3. How are they ever going to make people watch BBC3 as a matter of course, if they don't make good shows for it and then run them on the channel?

It's the whole chicken and egg thing.

and on the note about it being poor writing to introduce the team to gewn......how many places have you walked into a room and not been introduced to everyone there. Its manners. Its sensical too to have the main characters in a brand new show introduced in some form or another, if they can manage to do it in one scene in a single piece of dialogue and get it of the way quickly and painlessly all the better.

Remember the long take scene from Serenity? We're introduced to all the characters, their names, what they're about and their relationships with each other, all in the space of 10 minutes and all in a completely natural and entertaining way.

I can't WAIT for Torchwood, mind!

I thought serenity and firefly were shit. But hey thats my opinion, perhaps some people liked it. The three who bought the dvd for instance.

Anyways, I really dont understand why they dont edit out the swearies so they can show a kid friendly version, or is it perhaps too adult orientated so that they just cannot do this?

And I doubt tennant will leave just yet. Think we might just get about 4 series out of him (hopefully) and then he will step aside. We are on the tenth regen so thats only two more methinks....Unless he does a master and gets a new body and a new set of regens.

The number of regens will never be a problem as long as the show is getting viewers / making money. When the time comes there'll be some bollox plot device to work around it. It might piss of some hardcore Whovians for defiling the 'canon' but, otherwise, I doubt it'll be an issue.

Torchwood looks more and more like a British Buffy/ Angel hybrid with each trailer. Some of the similarities are uncanny. Hopefully it'll throw some new ideas in there but all the info so far points to severe lacks of inspiration from all involved.

Really nice set though.

So here's hoping it's less dark and adult, and more entertaining and Captain-Jacktacular.

something along those lines.

Didnt mean to start an arguement or get peoples backs up, just think its pointless to moan about something based on a few seconds sneak peek. Give it a chance. If its shit, then its shit and I will eat my words. If not then we should all be happy.

However judging by current form the beeb are really doing some things very right.

Two hours to go! My nine year old is slightly miffed that he can't watch it tonight - I'm going to see what it's like first as apparently it has an adult slant. If it's just a bit of mild swearing I'll be happy for him to watch it when it repeats. He managed the Lord Of The Rings trilogy without freaking out, and that had it's scary moments.

I fail to see what any of that has to do with the point I raised, which you utterly failed to address.

Nice try though!

well to address your point, perhaps they decied against that sort of long drawn out exposition by just getting it out the way in a very natural way as it would happen in the really real world. Generally when I meet somone new I am introduced, told who the person is and what they do in a very quick manner and I find out more about them as I go along.

Seems natural enough to me and not too cliched.

The 'new character who has to be introduced to the supporting cast for the benefit of the viewer' device is one of the oldest cliches ever.

The second ep deals with a sex addicted alien who then murders his victims. You might have some explaining to do after he sees that one. ^_^

Oh and... less than half an hour to go!
