Well after 28 yrs of being a Doctor Who fan, I'm about 2 days away from attending my first convention :)

I've already been warned to stay away from Richard Franklin(Captain Yates) due to his roaming eye and hands.

I may take a camera to take some snaps of the freaks however I will be spending the day in the bar.

:) mind he never was the same after that unpleasantness with the dinosaurs.

FYI, still not got through placebo effect yet. it's pretty pants. hated all the royal family stuff, and the Sam conversation with the monk is just so Trekkie.

Well I did say that, Gary Russells there on the weekend and the urge to go up to him and shake his hand and say

"Gary Hate your work" will be overpowering indeed. :P

He'll be swaggering around giving it large now he's an actual script editor on the programme.

I always found the concepts behind Gary's books to be quite good but the books themselves to be so badly written and characterised as to be unreadable. Spiral Scratch was like something from a 13 year old's English homework - utterly risible. It's a shame as he is a big supporter of the 6th Doctor - I was 10 in 1986 so have always seen no. 6 as being 'my' Doctor, if you know what I mean.

Trainee script editor, He'll be giving it large on the weekend due to him being the compere for the weekend.

one of my mates faux pas last year was telling Gary that he's getting all his audios from Play due to their cheapness compared to the offical site :)

So, I watched the Eccleston season and thought it was 'alright'. It had some rubbish bits, but the finale was pretty good.

Then I got round to watching season 2.

Jesus CHRIST, what a load of shit.

I've just finished watching the Cybermen 2-parter, and it's quite possibly the worst piece of television I've watched in a very long time.

Meh - go back fifty pages and everyone's jizzing themselves about the cybermen two parter. Bloody idiots. It's bland sub-CITV arse-drizzle.

Talking of Big Finish audios though, can I give a shout out for 'Spare Parts' again? It's fucking aces. Peter Davison, great audio design, chock full of ideas, a gripping story that's told well. Reminded me of Quatermass with it's post-war milk powder feel. I'm prepared to go on record with the suggestion that people buy it. If they fancy, like...

One cool thing about this book though is the reference to Meep, who was in the first issue of Dr Who Weekly I bought (i.e. issue one).

Crazy Doctor Who Coincidences #35

I was watching an episode of Big Train that I recorded last week, only to spot the following...

- Simon Pegg - Starred in The Longest Game & narrated S1 of Doctor Who Confidential

- Tracy-Ann Oberman - Starred in Doomsday & Army of Ghosts

- Catherine Tate - Stars in The Runaway Bride this Christmas

- Plus, one of Simon Pegg's sketches featured a joke about Billie Piper's career.

Was Russell T Davies a fan?! Will we see Mark Heap, Kevin Eldon, & Rebecca Front appearing in future episodes? I demand to know!

Sarah Jane Adventures

SpinoffsSeptember 14, 2006

A press release from the BBC press office today reports that the Sarah Jane Adventures series (originally called "Sarah Jane Investigates") is going ahead with a one-hour special to air early in 2007. "Multi-award winning writer Russell T Davies has written a brand new series for CBBC called The Sarah Jane Adventures. It stars one of The Doctor's most famous companions, investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith. Russell T Davies says: 'Children's TV has a fine history of fantasy thrillers - I loved them as a kid, and they were the very first things I ever wrote. So it's brilliant to return to such a vivid and imaginative area of television.' The series begins with a 60-minute special which will be broadcast in early 2007 with the series due later in the year. Set in present-day West London, the programme stars original Sarah Jane actress Elizabeth Sladen and Yasmin Paige, who plays her 13-year-old neighbour Maria. The two form an unlikely alliance to fight evil alien forces at work in Britain. Elizabeth says: 'I left Sarah Jane but she never left me. I can't wait to return to Cardiff to find out what's going to happen to her next.' In the special, Maria and Sarah Jane are brought together in their battle against the scheming Ms Wormwood, played by Samantha Bond. Filming begins next month on location in Wales, with the series going into production in spring 2007. Creative Director of CBBC, Anne Gilchrist, says: 'CBBC viewers have already proved themselves to be enormous fans of Dr Who. I am thrilled that they'll now have this new series as an extra-special treat.' ... The Sarah Jane Adventures is written by Russell T Davies and Gareth Roberts. It was commissioned by Jane Tranter for BBC Drama, and Anne Gilchrist and Jon East for CBBC. It is produced by BBC Wales and will transmit on the CBBC Channel and CBBC on BBC ONE. The Executive Producers are Julie Gardner and Russell T Davies. The Producer of the special is Susie Liggat and the Director is Colin Teague. The Producer of the series is Matthew Bouch and the Series Producer is Phil Collinson. K-9, the faithful robot dog and Sarah Jane's goodbye present from The Doctor, makes an appearance in the special but will not appear in the series."

Yet another Who spinoff..... This, torchwood and k-9 oh and the abandoned Rose Tyler: Earth defence series

Yay! Perhaps they will actually do a series of K-9 and company next....

Just spotted this on Digital Spy:

Doctor Who' to remain earth-based

Wednesday, September 20 2006, 12:01 BST - by Ben Rawson-Jones

Doctor Who supremo Russell T Davies has cited budgetary constraints as the real reason for the Tardis's lack of trips to alien planets.

In an interview with Doctor Who Magazine, the writer claimed that creating unearthly landscapes is "hugely expensive" and would provoke strong criticism if carried out cheaply.

"The mockery we would get walking into a forest and saying that we're on the planet Zagfon!" he explained.

When the Tardis did land on alien territory last season it coincided with fewer viewers for the two-part story. But Davies was quick to explain that moving away from Earth - or a parallel version - was not the cause.

"'The Impossible Planet' and 'The Satan Pit' got our lowest viewing figures last series, but none of us is saying that therefore people don't like alien planets; I think that was just mid-summer heat, and lack of promotion, and a natural series dip."

The multi award-winning show will return for a Christmas special, followed by the third series in Spring 2007.

I see where he's coming from but, if true (it could easily be the interviewer putting words in RTD's mouth), I'm a little dissapointed nontheless. I watch Startgate SG1 / Atlantis and every planet they ever visit appears to feature the same Canadian landscape but it's not ruined my suspension of disbelief yet. Similarly with Battlestar Galactica. Is it really that expensive to CGI a few alien buildings / extra moons into an Earth shot landscape these days?

Much as I love it, I can't help but feel it's going to lose a little of it's charm if it's going to be continually Earth bound for a large percentage of it's stories. The Doctor, after all, is meant to be a traveller in time AND space.

Digital Spy has a story about a Doctor Who movie with Billie coming back.

'Doctor Who' movie on the way?

Thursday, September 28 2006, 08:54 BST - by Dave West

Producers are planning to bring back Billie Piper for a Doctor Who movie, according to a report.

The decision was prompted by the realisation that the show's budget was constraining it in terms of sets and effects, according to the Daily Star.

A source told the paper that the proposed movie would also see assistant Rose Tyler, played by Piper, reunited with David Tennant.

"There’s been so much interest in Doctor Who since the show was sold to America that a film is the natural progression," said the source.

"Top of our list is to get Billie on board – not only was she amazingly popular, it would be really exciting to get her back with the Doc."
