Doctor Who

Just read the interview with Freema in DWM. She seems genuinely excited about landing the role - this really seems to mean the world to her, much like Billie really. My hopes are now high.

Mmm. She also hints that she doesn't just want to bugger off after a year, so fingers crossed she's good enough and the audience warm to her.

Got some Who DVDs for my birthday. I got:

Genesis

Revelation

City of Death

Robots of Death

Some great extras on the first 3, except for that embarrassing comedy skit on the CoD DVD.

Tom Baker is very amusing on the GotD commentary, even if he seems to have total memory loss about it.

Yeah. You wonder whether he's actually awake for some of it, and then he suddenly pipes up.

The documentary Genesis of a Classic is quite good, too. Though why Sladen is so upset at the end I'm not sure.

It's interesting how that press release doesn't once mention Torchwood's Doctor Who origins. You'd think the BBC were trying to attract a new audience into the fold, if Who wasn't already being watched by pretty much everybody. :)

I'm pretty sure I heard Torchwood is for an adult audience and I don't think there'll be much, any?, cross referencing. A pity but I think they want to distance it from Who's young fans.

I agree with DSD, it'll need a thread all its own. I reckon there might be forum users who watch Torchwood and have no wish to plough through our collective ramblings about Who. It might be best to consider it another new british sci fi programme. The timeline may be that Captain Jack hasn't met Who yet.

spoiler about jack

its after he met the Doc, its why Torchwood are in CArdiff due to the Time rift being there. Jacks there because he knows at some point the Doctor will have to turn up, to refuel the TARDIS.

So John Barrowman is definitely playing Captain Jack rather than some other character?

I was starting to assume that he'd be playing a different role (much as Eva Myles presumably will be). I still find it hard to picture Captain Jack, as seen in Doctor Who, in a "serious, gritty" adult sci-fi drama. He's just too... flippant. And camp.

Hmm, that's not what it said in DWM's review.

The documentary maker posts on OG - he's a bit of a weirdo but he insisted it was just Elisabeth being 'funny'. Then again, maybe he was just saying that to save face. I find it hard to believe he'd include it if she genuinely was being a stroppy old bint, though!

Fair enough but I still expect it to be light on the Who references.

Heh. I hope not. I love Liz. She's perfect.

I want to rest on her chest.

Watching Comedy Connections, I saw that Fulton Mckay was considered as the Doctor after Pertwee's tenure, but Porridge took him away (I'll take that with a pinch of salt). I'm pleased that Tom got the role but it would be interesting to see what Mckay would have made of it.

Bollocks! Have I missed that Porridge comedy connections twice now? Never knew that Fulton McKay story - he's amazing in Porridge (best sitcom ever, fact fans) - but I've never seen him out of this character.

Och! He was a wee poppett in Fraggle Rock <_<

I'll keep it alive ;)

Everyone rush out and buy the TARDIS playset, its £34 in Forbidden Planet and the best toy ever.

Also saw some of The Runaway Bride being filmed last week, snowmen and Santas in July is very confusing.
